I would appreciate a full 3fps, but 2.5 from the D50 has done fine for
me until now.

The slower than advertised continuous shutter speed is not a deal
breaker for me either. Only a remote possibility it would ever be
"needed".
I feel a "rush" over owning this unit, but it'll be a few
weeks...probably. I just want to calm down a bit. ;)
Hope your plans go well.

Thanks, Lawrence. Dinner was ready about the time I got to this point
and my wife was calling. ;-))
I see a "mirror up" setting, but only as a part of the sensor cleaning
process. I was looking for shutter delay (2 sec.) pre-lock.(?)
Did I miss that too?

Measured on their prototype at 2.4 fps vs the 3 fps claimed ... well,
for me that's just not an issue at all. It's fast enough. I rarely
shoot more than one frame at a time.

I'll order a body as soon as is convenient and sensible. I have
travel coming up, then I'm back for a month, then I'm traveling
again. Would be nice to have it asap but no rush ... I rarely take
anything on travel I haven't had a few weeks to work with and be
familiar with all its foibles.

I've had that on the Sony R1 and am pleased to find it on the K10D as
well. It helps a lot when you're evaluating exposure in weird
lighting to know where you might be blowing out a channel.

As mentioned in the preview, the continuous shutter speed rate
certainly does sound slower than the alleged 3 fps. Hope the fact that
it's a pre-production example is the explanation.
Noted a preview shutter speed typo.(?) 1/8000.
Anxious to see custom function listing.
Not sure I'll be able to wait for the dpreview "review" prior to

RE: dpreview's hands-on K10D preview is up

2006-09-13 Thread Tim Øsleby
Wow ;-)

Most of what's presented here is known, but it sure is nice to see it. Based
on the specs this camera will give significant improvements in about 20-30%
of my photographing. I'm talking speed, AF speed, shake reduction, and 30%
more room for cropping. If the improvements they claim in IQ comes true, it
will affect most of my photographing.
Is there really something like a free lunch ;-)

The weather sealing could also open up a new world of motifs. I like water,
I like rain, and I like mist. I already play with it, but sealing will make
me a lot more relaxed. And relaxing will probably make me more creative.

There's one surprise here I like. Nothing really important, but I like
positive surprises. It has histograms for separate for separate colour
channels. I can see that coming handy when shooting in stage light.

Also see some of the interesting jpg's here (such as the body with water
