Re: k2 or kx or lx that is the question
AS I would suggest the K2 DMD or the LX [...] AS The LX is smaller and lighter than the K2DMD. For me the K2 DMD and the AS LX are the best 35mm manual focus Pentax cameras. I believe that Pentax AS will not service the K2DMD anymore, however, other camera repair shops AS will. AS Arnold It depends a lot on what you shoot. I have both, the K2DMD and LX (3rd gen). Side by side, the focusing screen in 'DMD is lot worse than in LX (while it's still lot better than some other bodies) or M series bodies (the later screens are brighter and more contrastier). So if you do lot of lowlight shots, the LX or MX or MES is better in this regard. Also the metering pattern in K2 is more influenced by off-center lights than the LX. However, the K2DMD is excellently build too, glassbrass, and excellent inside too (it had lot of original patents associated with it). On mine, something needs servicing now as the manual speeds are sometimes erratic, e.g. they about 1 in 20 cases run quite longer than excepted. I guess it's dirt on the solenoid or dirty potentiometers or similar. CLA is in order (but the body has been used a LOT in the 20-30 years so it's a miracle it's working as good as it is). Re: k2 or kx or lx that is the question
Paul, the same logic can be applied to slr/ps comparison: interchangeable lenses become a money hole (of course they are!) the interchangeable screens and finders is a *huge* plus of LX. with finders you can do things like weird angle shots, etc. -- that would be a major PIA, if possible at all, with any other camera. and being able to change your screen is hardly a liability. in fact, the dirst thing i did when my MX arrived was putting a newer one, from LX, to get a much brighter view. think how much money people pay to get 1/2 stop faster lens to ease focusing -- here it would cost mere $30 or so. although, you do make a very good point about having to try 'em all :) Mishka From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: k2 or kx or lx that is the question Date: Sat, 13 Jul 2002 05:47:36 -0700 The problem with the LX is that you won't be satisfied until you've tried out all the viewfinders. It becomes a money hole. [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo! Autos - Get free new car price quotes http://autos.yahoo.com - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: k2 or kx or lx that is the question
I have both LX and K2 in my working collection. I have used the LX for about a year, and have just begun really using the K2. I find both to have their advantages. The K2 is compact, well built, and FEELS good in my hand. On the other hand my LX is bulky. I say this because I have it loaded down with the bulkier options . . . a Grip A, sports finder (which is useful for focusing with glasses on), and motordrive. If you don't need/forsee needing these options in the future, then there is no reason to pick up an LX, and a K2 would suffice. Just be aware that the K2's ASA setting ring and EV compensation can get a bit sticky to use. Re: k2 or kx or lx that is the question
It would depend on your final requirements. However if I couldn't have one of each, (and I could afford the premium for it), I'd go for the LX. Just based on the fact that you can still get it serviced at a Pentax Service Center.
