OT - PSA - Never allow any 3rd parties into your mail-services

2018-04-24 Thread Igor PDML-StR

Your friendly PSA reminder:

Never allow any 3rd parties into your mail-services (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.)
... and especially social networks, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.

First, they harvest all the addresses from your mailbox(es) and your
address book (if exists).
Then they keep sending to these addresses annoying invitations (on your
behalf!) to become "a friend" / connect on that social network.
It's akin subscribing all people you've corresponded with to an annoying
mailing list without their permission.

Besides (even if you don't care for spamming other people), - why would
you want any social network to snoop in all your e-mails?
Beside being a privacy issue (which you may or may not care for -
surprisingly, some people don't care), - it could be a security hazard:
You create one more depository (over which you have no control!) of the
information about your banks, credit cards, utility accounts, etc.,- all
the information that can be helpful for stealing your ID.
Now, in addition to your mail service, you get yet another set of servers
that could be potentially breached, and the information can get stolen.

And you don't know where that information could be sold to.

If this has happened accidentally, you should go into you profile settings
(on that social network), and disable access to your e-mail service, and
change your password for that e-mail service (or disable access token in
some cases with Gmail).

And just in case: Bipin, your LinkedIn profile has been spamming like
that for many years, and has restarted doing that again earlier this
month.

Cheers,

Igor

My friend Lyndsaye wanted to do a themed shoot. She wanted to emulate

She brought along costumes and wigs and all sorts of ideas.
Anyway, against my better judgement, I'm throwing this very QD gallery out.
It starts of OK, gets silly and then perhaps a little tacky at the end.
 Possibly not office safe.

I think the dark green dress shots work best, particularly

It's a strange bird. It's way too sharp for portraiture, but the AF is way
to slow for general purpose.

I suppose I should also have mentioned that it was brought to you by the

That's typical USPS delivery time, isn't it? And that part about the 1
cent stamp not covering postage is crap. It was good when the card was
mailed. The USPS lost it (go figure). Somebody needs a 40 cent refund,
damnit. g

I am afraid that this is "out to lunch". Look for example at the
 80-320/4.5-5.6 zoom. At 80mm the aperture is 80mm/4.5 = 17.8mm diameter. At
320mm the aperture is 320mm/5.6 = 57.1mm diameter (pretty close to the
filter diameter). AFAIK the variable aperture zoom has the same aperture
mechanism as a constant aperture zoom.

I don't think you can use the focal length / aperture method to determine
the diameter of the open aperture blades, can you? The aperture blades
can't have an opening of 57mm, because that's larger than the rear of the
lens! If anything, that formula might determine the minimum size that the
front element has to be, but I can't see it measuring aperture
diamter. So, I think I'm going to stick with my theory for now. :)

I've read that the 7 has fast, fast, fast autofocusing. True? And that
it's
the heaviest and sturdiest of all the ZX's?

I doubt it. I just tried it with the FA135/2.8 [IF]. The AF was
slooo and uncertain. My Z-1p is way faster. Not to mention the
viewfinder is pretty poor as well (not good for manual focus).

Especially when locally means Don's Photo, home of the free
pancake lenses, 500 dollar LXs (with winder attached), 50 dollar
2Xs teleconverters and the like. Gee, the longer I stay on this
list, the more I like Don's Photo.
