Hi Because of an issue, we are oblige to work with a modified version of powerdns: 2.9.22.X We face a new issue that is listed with a ticket 224 and a patch 1466. however, this patch don't work with a 2.9.22.x Version (I confirme it work with a simple 2.9.22) Have you some explaination, or correction for this ? [Pdns-users] Using root-referral
I'am using the option send-root-referral=lean (or yes) in my powerdns authoritative server. This server isn't recursive. When my server need to reply with CNAME where we are not authoritative for the destination, the server add root server in the authority section, and ip address in the additional section. Often this reply, can't enter in a UDP packet and need a TCP reply. When i analyse trafic with tcpdump and wireshark i can found [Malformed Packet: DNS] For most resolver, this is not a problem, and communication continue in TCP But it look like some other resolver (or firewall) stop on this Malformed Packet and resolution can't finish. But only with PowerDNS authoritative server. With other, this type of resolver can switch in TCP One solution is the reduce the number of root server we send on authority and additional section to limit the packet size. This can't bo done in configuration file and need to patch sources file. Do you now this problem, and is there any other solution. ___ Pdns-users mailing list Pdns-users@mailman.powerdns.com http://mailman.powerdns.com/mailman/listinfo/pdns-users
[Pdns-users] Trouble with subdomain having CNAME and MX
Hello I notice that some subdomain having CNAME and MX configured don't reply to MX query. After some test and research i notice that the record id order credit importance to the dns reply. If the CNAME record id is lower than the MX record id, then powerdns can't resolv MX record Exemple: test1.domain.com IN CNAME www.domain.com test1.domain.com IN MX 10 mail1.domain.Com dig mx test1.domain.com Is there a resolution for this bug? Thank you for this reply Do you know in witch RFC we can find this 'Algorithm', it seem that the cname reply with servfail is a problem for some web hosting and for DNSSTUFF *Server failure! [took 171 ms]. Response: Server failure. [Pdns-users] how PDNS must reply to malformed query
Hi, I would like to know and understand why PowerDNS don't reply to malformed query I try to make some malformed queries on PowerDNS and Bind. dig @localhost 'w w @ \\. test.com' - PowerDNS don't reply - Bind reply whith a RCODE NXDOMAIN If i look to the RFC NXDOMAIN means non existent domain (yes, he don't exist but he don't have to exist) In RFC I can see the RCODE 1 = FORMERR, it would seem that it is a good reply code for this query. So i would like to understand why this RCODE is not implemented, why powerdns choose to not reply and bind to reply with NXDOMAIN.
