Second the recommendation of BRASSED OFF.  I think it is a much better
film, though with a different appeal.

Full Monty", let me highly recommend
another British film in the same genre --
"Brassed Off" about the closure of a
coal pit and the performance of the
collery band.  It isn't quite as funny
but it is more explicitly political.
