RE: Maintaining Archive::Tar and Archive::Zip
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Moin, I Cc:ed [EMAIL PROTECTED], they are the "ones" ;) to decide this, if the authors are not responding. Although I wouldn't count on beeing lucky, since I am trying to "patch/takeover/maintain" Math::Fraction for almost two years. The authors address is dead, and multiply requests/efforts all resulting in "lets wait a few months mores" ;) The best bet is that the authors respond and let you do something. Unfortunately, it is not possible to register a co-author via CPAN, like someone who can release new versions, while the original author is still in effect. Hope that helps, Tels On 02-Mar-02 Adrian Phillips tried to scribble about: > > On the Amavis mailing list (www.amavis.org) it has been mentioned > several times that Archive::Tar and Archive::Zip are unmaintained, the > current amavis author has tried to send patches for both packages in > the past few months without any success; apparently there was supposed > to be a new version of Archive::Zip released a logn while ago. > > Now, I would just like to say that I am not criticising the current > maintainers/authors if they have been unable to find the time to > release newer versions. Hi, I'm the maintainer of Archive::Tar > "Adrian" == Adrian Phillips <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: Adrian> On the Amavis mailing list (www.amavis.org) it has been Adrian> mentioned several times that Archive::Tar and Archive::Zip Adrian> are unmaintained, the current amavis author has tried to Adrian> send patches for both packages in the past few months Adrian> without any success; apparently there was supposed to be a Adrian> new version of Archive::Zip released a logn while ago. I don't recall any patches for Archive::Tar. Adrian> - what is the current maintainership state of these 2 Adrian> modules ? Archive::Tar certainly needs some attention. It went through a major re-write some time ago to reduce it's memory utilisation (it used to keep the entire archive in memory), but there are follow-on issues that need addressing. What about a sourceforge style cvs environment? -- Stephen "So if she weighs the same as a duck, she's made of wood."... "And therefore?"... "A witch!"

In which case do you which to Adrian> set something up or do you wish me to do so ? Yes, the more help the better. I'm by no means a model maintainer; I have been neglectful of Archive::Tar for the last twelve months. I do have things I'd like to see Archive::Tar do, however, including subsume Archive::Zip's functionality. If other folks put the time & energy into creating patches, I can put the time & energy into getting releases out. -- Stephen "A duck!"
