Sometimes I think that when I get an "out of office" message that says,
"For all other inquiries, ask x", I should send my Perl question to
the person named along with an explanation. :-)

There is also a light (free software) version

Here we go again - the old editor wars.

I recommend vim and emacs since they are both powerful, free and
portable to UNIX/Win32/etc. vim is a little easier and emacs a
little more powerful.

Unless you need an IDE (I've never needed one) and I'm sure someone
will chime in.

Not sure if you got this working already, but you can install Math::Pari

You can following steps.

 1. Instal perl 5.8.3 in C:\Perl and use ppm3 command
  2. Follow the instructions provided in the url
"http://www.soulcage.net/ppds/";
  This does not install Math-Pari package.
  3. Add "http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/"; to the ppm3 repository using
rep add command
  4. Delet all other repositories using "rep del [no]" command
  5. Execute "install Math-Pari". All the required packages will be
installed.

win32::GUI ComboBox/autocomplete Listbox/dropdown

2004-05-18 Thread kenneth . dahlitz
Does anyone know of a way to either;

1) Make a Combobox autocomplete or search similar to the way
  a Listbox does? The Combobox will only find the first character
  and I would like to be able to search further into the element
  string.

or

2) Make a Listbox dropdown similar to the way a Combobox does.

I have read all of the documentation I can find with no help.
I am using perl v5.8.3 and Win32-GUI v0.0.558.

Ah, but did you also ensure that the modules Math::BigInt
and Math::BigInt::Calc are both installed?

A simple way to test if a module, say Fred, is installed
is to type the following at the OS prompt:

  perl -mFred -e 1

John,

Thanks very much for the reply. I added the "use" command to Win32Perl.pm
but it didn't change the error.

Yup, I'm fairly sure the problem is that Net::SSH::W32Perl, or whatever
the module is, wants to use a module called "BigInt" for manipulating
large integers, which it needs to do for encryption/decryption.

However, BigInt works analogously to the "DBI" database module in that
it can use various different 'backend' multiple-predcision modules.
BigInt searches for the latter at run time, and if it finds none then
by default it tries to use the PARI module.

So in short, I think you'll eliminate your problem if you ensure that
the following two modules are installed:

  Math::BigInt

  Math::BigInt::Calc

To be on the safe side, and speed things up a bit, you could locate
W32Perl.pm and ensure that the line that 'includes' the BigInt library
reads as follows:

   use Math::BigInt lib => 'Calc';

Poblems installing Math-Pari

2004-05-18 Thread Dave Kazatsky
Hey Perlers,

I am trying to use "Net-SSH-W32Perl" to no avail. I followed the install
instructions from soulcage but when I run my script i get: "Can't locate
Math/Pari.pm in @INC (@INC contains: D:/Perl/lib D:/Perl/site/lib".

I then tried to install Math-Pari on it's own using PPM. It said installed
correctly but am stilll getting the same error. I don't see the module at
all but I do see the .ppd and .pfg files in ppm-conf directory.

Does anyone know what might be the problem?

Win XP Pro Perl 5.8.3 build 809.

Thanks.

Net::SSH::W32Perl

2004-05-18 Thread Rishi Kaundinya M
Hi Experts,

  I need to use "Net-SSH-W32Perl" package for the work I am doing. This is a
high priority
  task for me. I have a problem with respect to the SSH package. I am using
Win2000 in my PC
  and I need to get the data from the remote unix machine.

  I have written small program as follows.

use strict;
use warnings;

use IPC::open2;
use Net::SSH::W32Perl;

#my $host = 'samra.india.hp.com';
my $host  = '15.76.97.101';
my $cmd="ls -al";
my $ssh = new Net::SSH::W32Perl($host,  port => 22, debug => 1, protocol =>
2);

#close(0);
#close(1);
#close(2);

#open(DATF, ">test_ssh");

$ssh->login("Rishi", "Rishi");

#print "Hello \n", $str;

#$ssh->cmd("exit");
 my ($out, $err, $exit) = $ssh->cmd($cmd);
 print "x\n";
 print "y";

 print "\n $out";

;
 $ssh->cmd("cd Perl");
 print "Processes\n";
 my ($out1, $err1, $exit1) = $ssh->cmd("pwd");
 print "\n $out1";

#$ssh->_disconnect();

print "\n Hi Rishi, you are disconnected";
#$ssh->cmd("exit");

The current working directory remains as " /home/Rishi". I would like
to get the o/p of "ls -al" from the directory "/home/Rishi/Perl"
dynamically.
I would like the old command
state to be maintained as per my requirements of the project. Can you please
let me know what I
need to do so that I can send commands with respect to my previous command.

Thanks for your help,

Regards,
Rishi

?????populating a select box at run time?????

2004-05-18 Thread Shroff, Aatish Anupam
Hi All,

I am new to perl scripting. I have a requirement to populate a select
box at run time. I used the following code:

$op = $window->document->createElement("option");
$op->value = "X";
$op->text = "X";
$window->document->addSel->idSel->add($op);

I am getting the following error while I run this script:

"cant modify non-lvalue subroutine call at (eval 4) line 5"

Anyone here know what this means? Or if someone knows how this can be
done, it would be great help.

Thanks,

Aatish Shroff

Re: Formatting Error Messages

Hi Ashish,
ashish srivastava wrote:
Hi,
I am trying to connect to a database using the DBI module. If the
connection fails the script quits with a message. I want to format this
error message:

Example :
Script:
#!/local/bin/perl
use DBI;
$ENV{ORACLE_HOME} =  "/local/db/8.0.6";
my $dbh = DBI->connect("DBI:Oracle:frf1154a","scott","tiger")
   or  die "Couldn't connect to  database: $! \n".DBI->errstr;
Output:
perl p1.pl
DBI connect('frf1154a','scott',...) failed:  at p1.pl line 5
Couldn't connect to  database:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied (DBD: login failed)
at p1.pl
line 5.

I want the error output to be without the reference to the file name and
line number. Is it possible?

use DBI;
$ENV{ORACLE_HOME} =  "/local/db/8.0.6";
my $dbh = DBI->connect("DBI:Oracle:frf1154a","scott","tiger")
   or  print "Couldn't connect to database: $! \n". DBI->errstr;
   die "\n";
Important is, that die is called separatly (AFAIK).
This should work. ;-)

Duh - there is no newline at the end dude. Try:

or die "$! \n" . DBI->errstr . "\n";
