RE: Solution: Edit .PL file attachments in Outlook
This technique only works with Links, not attachments.. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, June 10, 2002 8:56 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Solution: Edit .PL file attachments in Outlook Outlook 2000 will not do what you ask. Outlook 2000 treats file associations differently than The Operating system, it uses a seperate registry key. To alter that association or create one: Hold down the shift key and click the script to open it. The link browser opens up. Browse to whatever you edit it with (the exe) and double click it. If you do this the default behavior in Outlook wiht be to open it with the exe you select. You will no longer be able to run them from Outlook. It will not change the settings in the os. search on: locate link browser outlook 2000 Original Text## Kindof OT, but I'm slightly frustrated by not being able to right-click a .PL attachment in MS Outlook and get an "Edit" option. "Open" runs the script, and "Print" prints it. I have customized my NT file associations so that I can right-click a .PL file in Windows Explorer and get my "Edit" option, but apparently these associations are not translating over to Outlook attachments. I've searched my usual NT references, and only get explanations on changing Windows associations, which I've already done. I also don't want to change the default association in Windows (I want it run the script), but I'd be happy to change the default that Outlook obeys. As a result, the assoc and ftype commands don't seem to be what I want. Any ideas? Vince Iacoboni Sr. Database Administrator Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown, Inc. RE: Can't Locate Perl in Registered File Lists
How to make .pl files open in Notepad when double clicked yet maintain current icon. (Win2k OS) Open My Computer. Tools > Folder Options click the File Associations tab. Select .pl Click advanced. Click New Type "Edit" (or foo for that matter) in the Action textbox Click "Browse" Find app of your choice (I navigated to C:\WINNT\notepad.exe) and select it. Click OK Select the new "Edit" Command Click the button "Set Default" click OK Click Close Using this method you will retain the original run command that the Perl installer created along with the original icon, yet have a different default behavior when it is double clicked. ___ Perl-Win32-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe: http://listserv.ActiveState.com/mailman/mysubs
Newbie book
Would you please recommend an introductory level book. I prefer ones with alot of tutorials/projects. A book of projects would be great. I am fair with VB and Javascript.
