can I just unzip the package in some appropriate location?



Just unzip the package and look in the readme file how to use ppm to 
install the module.

You need to make perl a trusted app that has full access through the
firewall.  I don't have XP so I don't know the exact procedure.

Dear friends,

when I try to use ppm I get the following error message


Error: No valid repositories: Error: 500 Can't connect to
ppm.ActiveState.com:80 (Bad protocol 'tcp') Error: 500 Can't connect to
ppm.ActiveState.com:80 (Bad protocol 'tcp')


I'm running Windows XP with no proxy, but I guess it can be the firewall
that is acting up?  I saw in the archives that someone suggested
