Re: [PestList] Walk in Freezer Question

2023-07-13 Thread Madeline Corona
Hi Joel,

We also do not have a freezer onsite and have to rent a 20’ freezer trailer
that stays outside under the full-strength of the Southern California sun
(often during the summer months) for our treatments of our large textiles. We
also have not had any issues with the freezer coming to temperature quickly or
staying there, but adding shade couldn’t hurt!

Happy to talk more about our setup one on one!

Madeline

Hi Joel,

We do not have an external freezer - but have rented freezer trucks before when
in a pinch.

Consider heat treatment with controlled RH. Heat can be incredibly effective -
and it doesn't need to be very hot (50 degrees Celsius or so) and the
dimensional changes can be less than if an object was frozen. (eg going from
25 degrees C to 50 degrees C instead of 25 degrees C to -20 degrees C).
Obviously depends on the material.

Does anyone have a walk-in freezer for cold treatments that is freestanding
outside? We do not have interior space for one. I am thinking a shade pavilion
overhead to cut down on blazing sun on a concrete pad with security fencing and
cameras. Cutting it off to wait for acclimatization of the objects. Is this a
terrible idea or possibly doable?
