Not with 8.3. I finally did get a few earlier versions to install. Since I was not having any luck with it and received no responses. I would still like to know how to force it install though ... Whenever I try to install version 8.3 on w2k, using an existing windows account , the installer returns the error Invalid username specified: A required privilege is not held by the client. I have since installed version 8.2 successfully, using the same account that failed with the 8.3 installer. Harald, Thanks for the response. 1.) you should prefer windows 2003 for your first PostgreSQL install on windows. Installation on Windows 2000 is a lot more challenging. BTW: main stream support for 2000 by Microsoft ended on 2005-06-30, so unless you have contracts with MS for extended support... Yes, you are right. Unfortunately, I am stuck with an old 2000 box for the moment. Firewall s/w is installed but disabled. I am logged in as a user with Administrative rights. When the installing gets to the step Starting Services.
