[Pharo-project] Pharo Association

2012-11-15 Thread Marcus Denker
Hello,

We are happy to announce the Pharo User Association:

http://association.pharo.org

The goal of the Pharo User Association is to support Pharo development and
promotion.

There are two individual memberships

- Individual Pharo Association Member: Yearly fee 40 Euros
- Golden Individual Pharo Association Member: Yearly fee 99 Euros

You will get
- reduction access to pharo conferences,
- reduction for training and access to teaching material,
- be part of the pharoAssociation-individual-members mailing-list,
- an account at the pharo association web site.

This Association is complementary to the Pharo consortium managed by INRIA.
The Consortium is for entities such as companies, research teams, or
institutes.
For more information, see: http://www.pharo-project.org/community/consortium

The funds collected by the Association will be used in coordination with the
Consortium
to support the development of Pharo.

The Pharo Board and Pharo Core Team.

Re: [Pharo-project] Pharo Association

2012-11-15 Thread Ben Coman

Well done getting all this up an running. Some minor feedback on the
web site...

1. I would guess that one of the more important purposes of the site is
that people sign up.
So don't hide the signup and login buttons away from the the front
page. There is room on the right hand side of the title bar.

Once logged in these could change to the membername and logout button.

2. Paypal says the payment transaction will appear on my bank statement
as "PayPal*ASSOCIATION". I guess that because the payment goes to
"Association Pharo".
It would be nicer if the payment when to "Pharo Association" so that my
bank statement said "PayPal*PHARO" - but I don't expect you could change
that.

3. When choosing subscription type, the term "_simple_ member" to
distinguish from "premium member" feels a bit condescending and
unnecessary. Just "member" on its own is enough to distinguish from
"premium member".

simple = *2. *A fool; a simpleton.[1] /b //(1)/ *:* stupid
 /(2)/ *:* mentally
retarded [2]

[1] http://www.thefreedictionary.com/simple
[2] http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/simple

4. Perhaps when members add contribution for display on the slide show,
these could be added to the "What's new" sidebar. This might help
increase the show of activity.

As an aside, I love the name "Pharo" for the project but it is
unfortunate that "Pharo" is such a widely used name with 3,000,000
unrealated results on google search, and "pharo.com" domain being used
for other purposes. A tip for others making up new project names is to
choose one with a small number of results on Google. A service like
http://wordoid.com/ can help.

Thanks indeed this is not the point.

Yes.
In fact for version 2 (not 1.0) we want to offer a blog to each member and
aggregating.

We checked google before when we decided and we love that name.

Thank you for your suggestions!

I am making a list of what to improve and added them (the association pharo vs.
pharo association one I think is not to fix sadly...)

Hi. I am trying to add a contribution to my user. I put the title, I
upload a picture for the project, and I set the description, but when I
press "accept" it hangs in "loading" (on the top right) and after a timeout
I get:

The print out, sign and sending the document is understood.

Where can I pay for individual members by credit card and where.

Can this also be done for bulk payment for multiple membership, if I can
convince a few more locally

Hello,

For individuals, the way to support Pharo is not the consortium (as Inria can
not handle
small payments and especially no credit cards):

[Pharo-project] pharo association membership

2013-01-13 Thread Tudor Girba
Hi,

I just remembered that I forgot to pay for the membership. I remedied the
situations a minute ago.

I am sending this message because as a reminder in case other people might have
forgotten, too :).

For convenience, to get a membership:
- go here: http://association.pharo.org/web/members/register
- enter your data
- login and go to http://association.pharo.org/web/members
- press "review my subscription"

Cheers,
Doru

[Pharo-project] Pharo Association reaches 50 Members

2013-04-04 Thread Marcus Denker
Hi,

The Pharo Association has reached 52 Members!

The Pharo User Association is a way for individuals to support the ongoing
development and
maintenance of the Pharo language and environment. It complements the Pharo
Consortium
which is a consortium of companies supporting Pharo.

Together the association and the consortium invest in the future of Pharo.

Information about how to join the Pharo Association and Consortium can be found
on the website.

[Pharo-project] Pharo Association: alone we have little power, but many we are strong

2013-01-19 Thread Stéphane Ducasse
Hi guys

Just a point: Join the Pharo association because all together we can get some
power.
For example, I would like that we brainstorm about what kind of effort the
association
want to sponsor.
- real headless image
- other network protocols
-…

So far we are 35 but I really dream about a moment where we will be much more.
If you find some value to Pharo and you want to encourage its evolution, this
is simple.

The association/consortium needs some work on marketing/promotion. There
was a question at the Toronto Smalltalk User Group that seemed to
indicate to me that the association is not well understood, whereas the
consortium is somewhat understood but "too expensive for individuals".

Maybe, for those who do not follow the various lists, there could be a
"Frequently Announced Items" posting that explains the consortium and
association, and gives sign up links. I personally dislike automated
posts, but sometimes people don't absorb all the information when it
flies by on the mailing list just once.
