[Phono-L] Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah (belated) etc.

2010-12-24 Thread john robles
I want to wish the best of the holidays to everyone on the board, and I hope
your 2011 is brighter and better than 2010.
It's a pleasure to read your messages, to learn new things here, and just to
enjoy the good fellowship we all share here.  Sure, sometimes there is
disagreement, but we all seem to come back around to the subject at hand and to
general goodwill.
So thank you for this venue Loran, and again, Happy Holidays to all.

[Phono-L] Toy Technologies

2010-12-24 Thread Robin & Joan Rolfs
Merry Christmas to all...

Christmas toy technologies have truly evolved throughout the decades. Matt
Woolsey, writer for the on-line publication "GE Reports" interviewed Joan and
myself and wrote an interesting article about the not so successful Edison
Talking Doll. This and other toy technologies are highlighted in the Holiday
Edition. Scroll down to the last article: "Behind the Toy Technologies in
Santa's Futuristic Lab" and click the link to "Thomas Edison's Talking Doll".

http://www.gereports.com/

Little girls wanted a talking doll for Christmas and today phonograph
collectors would also be delighted to find her under their tree Christmas
morning.

Happy New Year 2011!

[Phono-L] an idea

2010-12-24 Thread Thomas Edison
One of my ideas I always wanted to do, was open a working cylinder studio, that
used the floorplan of 79 5th ave, in a turn of the century building, have the
studio upstairs, and a model of an Edison dealership downstairs. The studio
could record two and four minute cylinders, and diamond discs, and sells the
new records, has listening booths. Ill never have the funds though to do this.
I have the technical knowhow but that is it, is there grants available?

[Phono-L] Unknown Telefunken sample record of the 1930s

2010-12-24 Thread S. Puille

I have recently examined a Telefunken sample record, I would guess of the
1930s. Matrix no. is TP 1052. I had no opportunity to reproduce it.
Perhaps an expert on early Telefunken could tell me more about it. Which known
recordings are neighboring TP 1052? Does an early recording ledger exist of
that German company?

Re: [Phono-L] Victor on Ebay

2010-12-24 Thread Rich
I have noticed the same thing and it is a feature of whatever e-mail
program you are using failing to play nice with the seriously fouled up
formatting from eBay. If eBay spent more time trying to simplify the
reply format and dump all the whiz-bang formating used to appeal to the
intellectually challenged users who are attracted to bright shiny things
it would all function better.

Strange. When I click on the link, I get an ebay message that says the item was
removed. It certainly looks correct in all respects but the speed control and
crank location. The screws on the crank escutcheon look new too. The Victor
Data book indicates that the cabinet is all correct though. The slip in elbow
is a late feature.
