Re: [Phono-L] Duke Specal RE
Shawn, I've been waiting and waiting for the Bolden movie. Is it ever going to be put out, or has it just been put on a shelf? A friend has claimed to have acquired an original Billy Bolden record. Could that be? I actually thought no recordings of Billy Bolden existed. ---Art Heller In a message dated 11/26/11 8:01:50 P.M. [Phono-L] Free - recycled - save the planet - record hold down and adapter
Need an adapter to play Standard records or others with 1/2" or 3/4" spindle holes? Go to your local tire store and ask for throwaway tire valve stems. The large rubber end which holds the stem in the tire makes a great record adapter. Use a razor blade or box cutter to slice the large end off. The stem hole fits a standard size spindle and depending on whether you place it "round side" up - it fits 3/4" holes - or round side down - it fits 1/2" holes and it also works great as a record hold down for Hit Of The Week cardboard records or other paper type children's records. Try it and see what you thinkCurt ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org

Re: [Phono-L] Phono-L Digest, Vol 8, Issue 356
Thomas Negovan and I gave a lecture on cylinder history and recording at the TedX motivational speakers consortium in Naperville IL (1893 Columbian Exhibition.) It was a real treat to partake in this event. I know you are saying "why are you using a cygnet horn to record with, are you daft!" I tried many different ones previous to the event, and with the recorder I used this horn gave the best recording quality, plus it made it easy to play back as well. A very low noise high output cylinder issued from this event, and Thomas played in a normal playing manner. The real treat also was setting up in the lobby afterwards, and playing recordings, and having a Q.A session. There is definitely more interest with the general public, it still amazes and astounds, especially when done right. Of course many of the scientists, and lecturers were inspired by Thomas Edison. When the video goes up, you will be able to hear this as well, will update where and when this is available.
