It's a story all right. The bracket and elbow are obviously Crapophone parts
form India. And knowing India's huge brass industry, I'd guess the whole thing
was made there. I knew Charlie Haines and went to his shop every week for the
two years I lived in Philadelphia. I wonder when he got it. It says he sold it
in 1996. I returned to California in 1992 so he must have gotten it after I
left.
Nice story but not worth $5500.

Sorry  about the possible blank email. I take a different approach and
perhaps thought to be mean spirited by some. If someone wishes to spend
$900.00 on a crap o phone I don't involve myself. It is a learning device.
If educating yourself is less important than a $900.00 bid why would I
purpose the money means as much to them as it does to me? An hour or so on
the internet would sort it all out or waste $900 bucks.

Looks like someone got stuck with a crapophone on ebay for $910!!! The
item number is 260977570310. The auction description says that the seller
bought it at an auction to use on a built in bookcase, but it didn't fit so
now they're selling it at a fraction of what they paid...Nowhere does it
say that it is a repro, but the standard I don't know anything about these
machines disclaimer appears. I find it doubtful because they call the
machine a Victor Gramphone, not a phonograph or Victrola asothers so
commonly do. Of corse the decal says The Gramophone Company, so that's a
good possibility...Someone asked a question about the date of the machin,
and the seller says that someone full of knowledge said that these
machines had been made for at least 30 years, so maybe that's the
disclaimer that it is not a real antique, but if so it is a shady one. And
of course they may not know what it is like they claim, but who buys
something to put in a certain
place in their home without measuring first? Plus the description is
typical of other items I have seen on ebay that are of questionable origin.
Or the seller could be totally innocent!

Earl from Austria commissioned a local metal artisan in the early 1930’s to
create a brass phonograph. Fashioning his design out of brass from a table top
model of the period, parts from existing phonographs were used to make it
operational., is obviously a total load of concocted BALONEY !!!

Yes, the zoom change is quite annoying. You can contact the seller to ask
for the pictures. I have done this in the past and is a way of verifying
that it isn't a fraudulent listing. I always ask for a specific picture or
two that aren't on the listing. If the seller replies with It is already
boxed or another lame excuse, I don't even bother bidding. If I get the
exact pictures requested then I can be pretty sure that they actually have
the item.

If you click on the large picture while it is zoom mode, it will open up the
old larger format.

Good luck This is a great machine.

Save the large image with FF. It will save the full image but you will
only see the eBay scaled image. If you select view image info it will
list what the original upload size is and what it is visually scaled to.
Once downloaded you will have the full size of whatever the seller
uploaded.
