The problems appears to be a broken libssl that is missing symbols for HMAC_cleanup. /usr/local/lib/libssl.a(t1_enc.o): In function `tls1_P_hash': t1_enc.o(.text+0x15e): undefined reference to `HMAC_cleanup' t1_enc.o(.text+0x16c): undefined reference to `HMAC_cleanup' Because -lssl is being used the test compiled against it fails.
