[PHP-DEV] PHP vs. Perl/Mason

2003-01-23 Thread Ray Hunter
Everyone,

I was wondering if there are any perl/php programmers that have used mason.

I am trying to get the advantages/disadvantages of each?

I am pro PHP, but my does is pro perl. What does everyone think about the
benefits of one over the other?

Thanks,

Ray

Re: [PHP-DEV] sapi/servlet configuration error

2002-12-05 Thread Ray Hunter
This is the line in my Makefile:

sapi/servlet/java.lo: sapi/servlet/java.c
$(LIBTOOL) --mode=compile $(CC) -Isapi/servlet/
-I/home/rhunter/src/php4/sapi/servlet/ $(COMMON_FLAGS) $(CFLAGS_CLEAN)
$(EXTRA_CFLAGS) -prefer-pic -c sapi/servlet/java.c -o
sapi/servlet/java.lo

Is that correct?

It looks like the sapi/servlet/Makefile.frag is not being added to your
 Makefile.

Can you verify that there is no line in your main Makefile that starts with
 sapi/servlet/java.c : ?

Perhaps you could try changing the line (from sapi/servlet/config.m4)

 PHP_ADD_MAKEFILE_FRAGMENT(sapi/servlet/Makefile.frag)

 to just

 PHP_ADD_MAKEFILE_FRAGMENT

In case $ext_srcdir is something other than 'sapi/servlet' for some reason.

Like Vergoz mentioned, just review the times in both files and you can
narrow down which page caused the seg fault.

RE: [PHP-DEV] error handling

2002-11-20 Thread Ray Hunter
The problem with this is that the 500 error does not provide any
information about the error.

Which for me is a bad thing.

Now that I think about it i am seeing some light...

I do like the idea of somehow passing a string to it. With cgi, it
makes me mad because i have to got and check the logs...(development
stage). However, in production i like the idea of apache throwing the
500 instead of a blank page...

I guess i am straddling the fence here...

i'd like to see a 500 error though, and some persistent vars...

See, the problem that I'm seeing here is that I don't believe PHP is
reponsible for setting the error code returned by PHP.. For instance, a
404 error isn't handle by PHP at all. Likewise, I don't think PHP can
say turn this into a 500 error to Apache.

that can't really be done because parsing has happened, and so
output has started -- but if we return status 500, the
   webserver can manage it properly..

Only if output buffering is off. Custom error handling should have
output buffering on anyway as I've already said... John
