Please commit that little script into phpdoc into the
scripts directory. We have some scripts there to test
XML files, such as the entities.php or dbtags.php. It
would be nice to make this test from time to time.

To answer your current bug report, I have not time
currently to skim through these addresses and find
the right, so anybody with sufficient time, or
who knows some of the right links would be welcome :)

[PHP-DEV] Bug #14763 Updated: Make [] of arrays readable

2001-12-30 Thread georg

ID: 14763
Updated by: georg
Reported By: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Status: Open
Bug Type: Feature/Change Request
Operating System:
PHP Version: 4.1.1
New Comment:

There is no need to make an array '$a[]' readable.

$a[] = "foo";

is short for

$a[count($a)] = "foo";

if $a[] would be readable, result would be always NULL:

$b = $a[] ( which would be the same as $a[count($a)])

Previous Comments:

[2001-12-30 04:29:01] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Currently in php, you can append to a variable by using the [] form:

$a[] = 'a';
$a[] = 'b';

It would be great if you could also read an array in the same manner, ie:

$lastadded = $a[];

which would be equivalent to
$lastadded = $a[count($a)-1];
which is what you have to do today.

Thats not a php-bug, its a mysql/cobalt problem.

By not specifying a path to the MySQL libraries, you are
using PHP's built-in library.

I would guess this is a problem with MySQL - I will check
it out.

[2001-12-13 17:36:06] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Compiled MySQL 3.23.46 with these configure options:

./configure \
--prefix=/usr/local/mysql \
--enable-assembler \
--with-low-memory

Compiled PHP 4.10 with these options:

./configure --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs \
--with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql \
--with-imap=/usr/local/src/imap-2000c \
--with-imap-ssl \
--with-zlib \
--enable-track-vars \
--with-gettext \
--with-gd \
--with-jpeg-dir=/usr/local/lib \
--with-mm=/usr/local/lib/mm \
--enable-sysvshm \
--enable-ftp

Starting Apache 1.3.22 with "apachectl start" gives me this:

Syntax error on line 238 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /usr/lib/apache/libphp4.so into server:
/usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.10: undefined symbol:
my_message_no_curses

I can work-around this bug by NOT specifying the dir when configuring PHP i.e.
(--with-mysql as opposed to --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql)

[PHP-DEV] Bug #14819 Updated: str_replace used with serialize

2002-01-02 Thread georg

ID: 14819
Updated by: georg
Reported By: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Status: Open
Bug Type: Strings related
Operating System: Linux
PHP Version: 4.0.6
New Comment:

Just tested it with 4.0.6 and 4.1.0
All seems to be ok.

Can you send me your configuration options?

Previous Comments:

[2002-01-02 23:49:09] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Two lines like this:
$myarray[ 2 ] = str_replace( "'", "", $mystring );
$myserial = serialize( $myarray );

produce a serialized array in $myserial but it contains the wrong length or sometimes
the wrong value for the string I inserted. It sometimes deletes the "'" and the
following character, sometimes deletes just the "'" but has the wrong length of the
string encoded in the serialized variable.

An example of $myserial would be:
a:3:{i:0;s:2:"s1";i:1;s:2:"s2";i:2;s:5:"dont";}
Which encodes the wrong length for the final string.

It works correctly when I break it into three lines:
$mystring = str_replace( "'", "", $mystring );
$myarray[ 2 ] = $mystring;
$myserial = serialize( $myarray );

An example of $myserial would be:
a:3:{i:0;s:2:"s1";i:1;s:2:"s2";i:2;s:4:"dont";}
Which encodes the correct length for the final string.

This only appears to happen if there is a str_replace match in the string. If there
is no match for the str_replace function, the glitch doesn't seem to appear. Thanks.

[PHP-DEV] Bug #14814 Updated: Strange error message on gzopen and ftp:// URL

2002-01-02 Thread georg

ID: 14814
Updated by: georg
Reported By: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Status: Open
Bug Type: Zlib Related
Operating System: Linux (2.4.17)
PHP Version: 4.1.1
New Comment:

For opening zip-files via ftp or httpd, there is a little
note in the manual:

Note: The current CVS version 4.0.4-dev introduces a
fopen-wrapper for .gz-files, so that you can use a special
'zlib:' URL to access compressed files transparently using
the normal f*() file access functions if you prepend the
filename or path with a 'zlib:' prefix when calling
fopen().

 This feature requires a C runtime library that provides
the fopencookie() function. To my current knowledge the
GNU libc is the only library that provides this feature.

But for sure, this is not a solution for the errormessage
:-)

Previous Comments:

[2002-01-02 20:37:21] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It's not clear from the manual whether or not gzopen is
SUPPOSED to work with http:// and ftp:// URL's, but I get
the impression the answer is "not yet". (The
documentation in the manual IMPLIES that it the
filehandle-like functions should work with the exception
of socket functions, but the user commentary below the
gzopen entry implies that it doesn't work for http://
URL's either...)

However, when attempting to gzopen a .gz file from an FTP
site, the error message returned is very strange:
-
Warning:
gzopen("ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/genbank/gbpln3.seq.gz","r";)
- Success in projects/phpdna/get28s.php on line
69
Like, dude!  Couldn't gzopen
ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/genbank/gbpln3.seq.gz!
The gzopen returned

-
("Warning - Success?")

(the section of code that does this is:

-
if(!($fhandle=gzopen($filename,"r")))
{
print("Like, dude!  Couldn't gzopen
$filename!\n");
print("The gzopen returned $fhandle\n");
}
-
where filename has obviously been passed as
ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/genbank/gbpln3.seq.gz

There's a pause that implies the connection attempt is
being made.
(quick update, I just re-ran the script and did a capture
with 'ethereal' - a connection IS being made and, passive
mode is being switched to, and the RETR is started on the
file, and about 3 1K packets seem to come across. Are FTP
URL's supposed to work? Is this a 'gzopen ftp://' bug
rather than an error message bug?)

I'll report the "Please Oh Please add http/ftp URL support
to gzopen like fopen has!" separately as a feature request
later, presuming it doesn't turn out that it's already
been done and I just don't know what I'm doing... Thanks!

[PHP-DEV] Bug #14827 Updated: POST [file upload] timeout in browsers

Previous Comments:

[2002-01-03 10:15:19] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

i am attempting to have users upload files from their computer to my web server. i
seem to be experiencing a timeout in both IE and NN. i have changed the server and
php.ini settings accordingly, but timeouts still occur.

i have gone through many lists and forums looking for an answer, and while i notice
people posting they can upload
[quite] large files, no one details the network environment [ie., intra/internet],
browser, web server, client machine, etc. i am sure someone out there is experiencing
timeouts in both IE and NN when attempting to upload large files.

i can upload files fine, until the filesize is greater than what i can upload within
the timeout. IE times out at about 5 minutes, and NN varies around there. so far, the
largest file i have been able to upload was about 10MB or so, on a
t1.

i have tried the ReceiveTimeout registry entry for IE, but it does NOT work in IE6.

i have a prefs.js entry for NN that might work, but have to wait until tonight to test
it out.

now, i know it is the browser that is timing out [at home at least]. is there a way
to keep sending pertinent info to the browser during a copy() function, in order to
keep the connection alive, and not have the browser timeout?

or, is there another way to do a file upload via the broswer, that won't time out? i
cannot tell is this is a php bug, a browser bug, or just plain old operator headspace.
 thanking you in advance.

sincerely,
michael defrees

You can only remove the documentation for icap, after removal of the
source. The authors are Mark Musone and Chuck Hagenbuch. Ask them first
or start a discussion at php-dev.

Well you should have already heard about this but I'll report it anyway
becoz we all need a fix very fast! Well when you do this:
http://www.example.com/php/php.exe?c:\winnt\repair\sam   (this is an
example, you can view any file) it will return the files contents! This
happens with ANY windows versions...i don't think it affects linux. Also
this will return the install path of PHP:
http://www.example.com/php/php4ts.dll
could you please get a path/new vesion out ASAP! This is extremly
serious!

[PHP-DEV] Bug #14814 Updated: Strange error message on gzopen and ftp:// URL

2002-01-17 Thread georg

ID: 14814
Updated by: georg
Reported By: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Status: Open
Old Bug Type: Zlib Related
Bug Type: Documentation problem
Operating System: Linux (2.4.17)
PHP Version: 4.1.1
New Comment:

Currently its not possible, to combine diffrent wrappers.
So you can't use fopen("zlib:url/file.gz") or
gzopen("url/file.gz").

I changed it to a documentation problem, maybe someone can
add a note, that is not possible yet to combine wrappers.

Previous Comments:

[2002-01-08 17:02:53] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

(Just got email back from Georg, replying to my response
to this [emailed directly as the bug-editing was down at
the time]).

It sounds like neither gzopen nor zlib:// work for remote
files at all.

Is this a bug or should I submit it as a feature request?

P.S. Thanks again for the reply!

[2002-01-03 02:01:46] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

For opening zip-files via ftp or httpd, there is a little
note in the manual:

Note: The current CVS version 4.0.4-dev introduces a
fopen-wrapper for .gz-files, so that you can use a special
'zlib:' URL to access compressed files transparently using
the normal f*() file access functions if you prepend the
filename or path with a 'zlib:' prefix when calling
fopen().

 This feature requires a C runtime library that provides
the fopencookie() function. To my current knowledge the
GNU libc is the only library that provides this feature.

But for sure, this is not a solution for the errormessage
:-)

[2002-01-02 20:37:21] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It's not clear from the manual whether or not gzopen is
SUPPOSED to work with http:// and ftp:// URL's, but I get
the impression the answer is "not yet". (The
documentation in the manual IMPLIES that it the
filehandle-like functions should work with the exception
of socket functions, but the user commentary below the
gzopen entry implies that it doesn't work for http://
URL's either...)

However, when attempting to gzopen a .gz file from an FTP
site, the error message returned is very strange:
-
Warning:
gzopen("ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/genbank/gbpln3.seq.gz","r";)
- Success in projects/phpdna/get28s.php on line
69
Like, dude!  Couldn't gzopen
ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/genbank/gbpln3.seq.gz!
The gzopen returned

-
("Warning - Success?")

(the section of code that does this is:

-
if(!($fhandle=gzopen($filename,"r")))
{
print("Like, dude!  Couldn't gzopen
$filename!\n");
print("The gzopen returned $fhandle\n");
}
-
where filename has obviously been passed as
ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/genbank/gbpln3.seq.gz

Thanks!

Hi,

>From the manual
"The calendar functions are only available if you have compiled the
calendar extension, found in either the "dl" or "ext" subdirectories of
your PHP source code. Please see the README file before using it."

There is no README in "dl" or "ext" directory in the current source of
4.1.1. Nor in current cvs of /php4 /php3
So I assume this README is no longer available?

Thanks

[PHP-DEV] Bug #15268 Updated: remove a 2 dimension array and the problem on array count

2002-01-28 Thread georg

ID: 15268
Updated by: georg
Reported By: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Old Status: Open
Status: Bogus
Bug Type: Arrays related
Operating System: window NT
PHP Version: 4.0.6
New Comment:

In your sample you removed 2nd dimensions from $e, not
first, so $e[1] is an empty array.

e.g. vardump($e):
array(2) { [0]=> array(2) { [0]=> string(3) "aaa" [1]=>
string(3) "bbb" } [1]=> array(0) { } }

To remove first dimension use unset($e[1])

[2002-01-29 00:33:14] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

hello :
  i have a problem on remove 2 dimension array in which the count of
array still is same as before the array was remove.

example:
  $e[0][0] = "aaa";
  $e[0][1] = "bbb";
  $e[1][0] = "111";
  $e[1][1] = "222";

  count(array) is equal to 2, then i try to remove an element of that
array using unset :
  unset($e[1][0]);
  unset($e[1][1]);

 then i try to retrieve the count of array again, the result should be
1, but what i get from it is the count of the array is still not
change, which it :
  echo count($e);//result is 2

i have been try this for single dimension array, there is no such
problem on it, just the 2 dimension array will face this kind of
problem.

thank you !!

[PHP-DEV] Bug #15336: New mysql function: mysql_real_connect

2002-02-01 Thread georg

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Operating system: any
PHP version:  4.1.1
PHP Bug Type: Feature/Change Request
Bug description: New mysql function: mysql_real_connect

Since version 3.22.x we have a mysql_real_connect instead
of mysql_connect + mysql_db_select in the mysql C-API.

If you come from C, its annoying, to use the (deprecated)
functions mysql_connect + mysql_select_db.

Its ok for BC, but mysql_real_connect should be art of the
state.

I changed the script to use ftp_quit() instead and it worked fine.

In some of the documention pages, the index on the left shows
ftp_close() as a function while others do not.

[PHP-DEV] PHP 4.0 Bug #8903: cgi executable dies stating: Floating point exception

Bug description: cgi executable dies stating: Floating point exception

I tried to compile php4.0.4pl1 on my virtual account at pair running on FreeBSD

When I try to use it (ie type ./php) I get the following error: Floating point

Compilation works fine, I did not get any errors.

When I install the previous release (403pl2) with the same configuration, everythig
works fine

My php.ini file: (did not touch it)

[PHP]

;;;
; About this file ;
;;;
; This file controls many aspects of PHP's behavior. In order for PHP to
; read it, it must be named 'php.ini'. PHP looks for it in the current
; working directory, in the path designated by the environment variable
; PHPRC, and in the path that was defined in compile time (in that order).
; Under Windows, the compile-time path is the Windows directory. The
; path in which the php.ini file is looked for can be overriden using
; the -c argument in command line mode.
;
; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and Lines
; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably guessed).
; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though
; they might mean something in the future.
;
; Directives are specified using the following syntax:
; directive = value
; Directive names are *case sensitive* - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar.
;
; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or M_PI), one
; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression
; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), or a quoted string ("foo").
;
; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:
; | bitwise OR
; & bitwise AND
; ~ bitwise NOT
;
; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
;
; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal
; sign, or by using the None keyword:
;
; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = none ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = "none"; sets foo to the string 'none'
;
; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a dynamicall

; use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension.

; All the values in the php.ini-dist file correspond to the builtin

; the builtin defaults will be identical).

[PHP-DEV] Announcement: New MySQL-Extension for PHP 5: ext/mysqli

2003-02-11 Thread Georg Richter
Hi,

The new mysql extension is now in the cvs-repository. Please not that you
need MySQL Version 4.1 (both server and client library) and that this
extension has experimental status.

Configuration:

--with-mysqli=/path-to-mysql-4.1  -without-mysql

If you want to use both ext/mysql and ext/mysqli you have to specity

--with-mysqli=/path-to-mysql-4.1  --with-mysql=/path-to-mysql-4.1

Some new features:

OO and plain interface
Diffrent types of connections (compressed/ssl)
Variable bindings
Support for bigints
Replication support

For some samples check the tests subdir. I'll add documentation within the
next days.

I like the mysql ml-model:

a) internals@ for communication between users and developers

b) a closed list for internal communication between php.net developers.
Optionally "trusted" users can be added.

P.S: Also removing mail addresses in files/credits/maintainer would be ok for

Ok, here is 1 reason:

DB1 and DB2 both have tables user and test

$db = mysql_connect (.

// select backup db
mysql_select_db("DB2", $db);

// Write something in our production db
mysql_db_query ("DB1",  "insert into test ... ");

// empty test table from backup db
mysql_query  ("delete from test");

And what happened?

mysql_db_query switched the current db from db2 to db1 and you deleted all
the data in the test table from your production db!

Cheers!

The solution is to use mysql_query instead:

// Write something into our production db
mysql_query ("insert  into DB1.test ")

// empty test table from backup db
mysql_query ("delete from DB2.test") or "delete from test"

Cause the mysql-clientlib has no functionallity to determine the current
selected database ist not possible to set the previous selected(default) db
via mysql_select_db() back. The db field in the mysql structure only contains
a valid db-entry, when you selected the db with mysql_select_db, not when you
used mysql_query("USE DB");

1) Its not a good idea, to move SQL queries into the extension instead of
using api-calls. That should be the job of userland functions.

2) In case you have an syntax error in your SQL-Statement, its not possible
to determine the error via mysql_error or mysql_errno cause the mysql_error
functions always return the error from the last command, which is not
mysql_real_query but mysql_select_db.

As discussed with Derick and Zak we will remove this stuff and wait until a
resolution inside the api is available (new api-function:
mysql_reset_connection). To unset all these things (and we can't unset all)
needs more time than to establish a new connection.

Additionally we should add some warnings into the mysql_pconnect chapter.

17. Examples
The examples in the manual should be more consistent and useful. A
draft styleguide alredy exists under
phpdoc/RFC/coding_standards. Additional ideas that came up were syntax
highlighting and linking functions in examples to their manual pages,
which need either post-processing of the HTML output or the ext/xslt
changes already discussed.

We also talked about having a similar feature as the old pre-Windows
Borland IDEs where it was possible to copy working examples to the
clipboard with a special single keystroke. Possible ways to implement
this for plain HTML and for CHM have to be examined ...

Having an example index and additional code-only pages for examples
might be an alternative to this.

Happy new Year!

This won't work, if the current user, which was specified in
mysql_connect/pconnect has not enough rights to use this db.

Maybe we should reactivate mysql_change_user function. Currently I don't

[PHP-DEV] MySQL - LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE

2002-08-08 Thread Georg Richter

Hi,  s

since MySQL-Version 3.23.49 and 4.0.2 the LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE
option is disabled by default, unless the server and client supports it.

With an external libmysql (and also with the integrated libmysql, which
doesn't support disable load data), we have a "little" security hole,
because in safe_mode it is possible to load (and view) all the data, which
is under access of the webserver).

I would like to disable LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE in safe mode. However this
will generate a lot of trouble, since users without shell access aren't able
to import data in their mysql-db.

Any opinions/suggestions?

[PHP-DEV] Modifications for Postgres driver

2001-06-18 Thread Georg von Zezschwitz

Hi,

As I wanted to migrate a project from ODBC to Postgres, I found
it easier to modify the postgres driver of PHP 4.0.x than to
change my source.

What I disliked (like the PEAR people) is the missing of a
row counter when fetching rows from Postgres result tables.

The mysql/ODBC/Adabas/some-other - way is:

$dbr = xxx_exec ($connection, $query);
while (list ($a, $b, $c) = xxx_fetch_row ($dbr)) {
   ... // Great, I have my results
}

The traditional and only Postgres way is:

$dbr = xxx_exec ($connection, $query);
$cnt = pg_num_rows ($dbr);
for ($i = 0; $i < $cnt; $i++) {
  list ($a, $b, $c) = pg_fetch_row ($dbr, $i)
}

The Postgres way is ugly, but it also makes it difficult
e.g. for the PEAR people to implement the unified interface.

I found it as easy as expected to write a patch that
makes Postgres driver behave like the other drivers, of
cause with full backward compatibility by making the
row number parameter optional.

I also changed the pg_result and the other row-aware functions.

Now, is there a chance to get this into the offical source?

Whom should I contact? I'm willing to update the documentation
in English and German if the patch should be used - but where
to I get it? Could anybody name me a person with CVS access?

Regards,

Now, the patch for PHP 4.0.5 is attached, together with
a description.

Could anybody with CVS access test it / apply it?

I think who writes the code should also do some documentation.
I do not know the "source format" of the documentation and
where to get it - could somebody mail me the Postgres-Doc-
Sources?

Thanks a lot,

Georg

 snip - description --

The patch enables the Postgresql-driver to do the
row counting within the driver when iterating through
an array. It does this by adding a row counter to
the internal data structure of the postgres result
set.

Instead of writing:

  $dbr = pg_exec ($connection, $query);
  $cnt = pg_numrows ($dbr);
  for ($i = 0; $i < $cnt; $i++) {
list ($a, $b, $c) = pg_fetch_row ($dbr, $i)
... // Got the data here
  }

one *can* write:

  $dbr = pg_exec ($connection, $query);
  while (list ($a, $b, $c) = pg_fetch_row ($dbr)) {
 ... // Great, I have my results
  }

This unifies the behaviour with other PHP database drivers
and helps the PEAR-libary developers (see notes there).

Moreover, one can e.g. write:

  $dbr = pg_exec ("SELECT MAX(id)+1 FROM table");
  // Try to get the new id
  if (! ($newid = pg_result ($dbr, 0)))
$newid = 1;  // No row found
  // Insert with the new id here

instead of verifying first if a row is available.

This is a description of the API change:

The following functions have a different syntax

PG_RESULT

Old syntax: pg_result (, , )
New syntax: pg_result (, [,] )

Change:
If row is ommited, the result is taken from the current data
row. If no row has been fetched yet, the first row will be
fetched. If there is no result row, false will be silently
returned without an error message.
Traditional behaviour is not affected.

PG_FETCH_ROW / PG_FETCH_ARRAY / PG_FETCH_OBJECT

Old syntax: pg_fetch_ (,  [, ])
New syntax: pg_fetch_ (, [ [, ]])

Change:
If row is ommited, the next row is fetched.
If row is ommited, and the last row is reached, no error will
be written, but silently false returned. Traditional behaviour
not affected.
It is not possible to ommit the row but to specify a resulttype.

PG_FIELDPRTLEN / PG_FIELDISNULL

Old syntax: pg_field (, , )
New syntax: pg_field (, [,] )

Change:
If row is ommited, the result is taken from the current data
row. If no row has been fetched yet, the first row will be
fetched. If there is no result row, false will be silently
returned without an error message.
Traditional behaviour is not affected.
