Re: [PHP] Freelance PHP development in India

2008-07-14 Thread Denis L. Menezes

Dear Ryan, Wolf.

Apologies for asking from India only. No offence meant.

It is because I am from India and I can personally meet and discuss with the
programmers. Cost is also an issue. Mine is a startup and the finances are
low. :-(

Apologies.
Denis

Why just in India? There are a number of us available via the world.

I'm guessing because he wants a REAL cheap solution...
what you (probably) charge for 5-7hrs work would probably be the same that
someone in india charges for a day or two or the whole project.

[PHP] variable shortened in hidden fields?

Hello friends.

I am passing a variable of two word like communications software from one

hidden text field gets the value communications only instead of
communications software.

Is there a way to solve this?

I have a form called feedback which has a hidden field as follows :

I send this hidden field as a variable in form2 which sends an email with
the following code :
?php
   // Build up email header fields
 $mailFrom = $SenderName;
$mailTo = [EMAIL PROTECTED];
$mailSubject = Message form mydomain.com;
 $link=Please follow this link
.http://www.mydomain.com/findbymember.php?SubCategoryName=.$SubCategoryNa
me;

 $Message=$SenderName had searched for '$SubCategoryName'. His/her details
are as follows : .\n.Telephone number : .$SenderTelNumber.\n;
 $Message=$Message.Mobile number : .$SenderMobNumber.\n.Email address :
.$SenderEmailAddress.\n;
 $Message=$Message.Address : .$SenderAddress;

// Send email to member company
mail($mailTo, $mailSubject, $Message,$link);
?

When my variable in form 1 is Large Format Print, the mail that arrives is
as follows :
Please follow this
linkhttp://www.findusnow.com/findbymember.php?SubCategoryName=Large Format
Print

Jack had searched for 'Large Format Print'. His/her details are as follows :
Telephone number : 454588445
Email address : 989855564
Address : some address1, some home, some street, some city

As you can see the link does not show the full variable at the end and shows
only the word large instead of large Format Print

can any of you help?

Thanks

 you're not differentiating between form elements on different rows.
 all the hidden elements have the same name and are in the same
 form so only the last one will be available as all the submit buttons
 are in the same form.

 you need to put form ../form tags around each submit/hidden
 pair.

 A pretty easy way of doing it is to add a size field to the table.
 Whenever you INSERT INTO or UPDATE the table, update this field to
 contain the size of the data for the current record. Then, whenever you
 need to check the amount of data for a particular user, just use this
query:

 SELECT SUM(size) FROM sometable WHERE user=someuser

 Hope this helps

 PS. Ive done this in a file upload script I created a while ago. If you
 want, I can mail you the relevant bits and bytes. DS.

2002-12-31 Thread Denis L. Menezes
Hello friends.

Happy New Year to you all.

Our school holds many seminars of varying durations and dates. I want to make a page
which says What's on today which will show all the seminars that are on today.
However the entry in the database will show two fields Commencing Date and Ending
date.

Is there a routine in PHP I can use to find if today's date fits between the
commencing date and the ending date?

Thanks
Denis

[PHP] Formatting text

2002-12-29 Thread Denis L. Menezes
Hello friends,

I have to put results of various departments in our school website. All results will
go in the Mysql database. The problem is formatting the output. I have output
something like this where the numbers shown are student marks :

Quote

Passed with Grade A :
Adm nos : 8177   9822  1750  0059

Passed with Grade B :
Adm nos : 6614 8375 0837 1647 5490 3758 7388 7799

Passed with Grade C :
Adm nos : 9968  0298  1297  1254  4208 4911  6194  9903

Unquote

I made a multiline textboxes and used PHP script and input this in a LONGTEXT field in
MySQL. Then I used PHP to output this field in a webpage. The formatting, carriage
return, tabs etc are lost. Formatting is very essential in this document for us.

Can someone tell me how to do this?

Thanks
Denis

Re: [PHP] Formatting text

2002-12-29 Thread Denis L. Menezes
Thanks John and Michael.

Please note that the following is my code :
Quote :

 if ($result=mysql_query($sql)) {
   $numofrows=mysql_num_rows($result);
 Print Greengrass database has found the following result that matches
your search;
 print  br\n;
 print  br\n;
  while($row=mysql_fetch_array($result)){
 Print   Identity : .$row[GGID].br\n. ;
 Print  Organisation name : .$row[OrgName]. br\n.;
 Print  Organisation country : .$row[OrgCountry]. br\n.;
 Print  Organisation Address : .$row[OrgAddress].br\n. ;
 Print   Results : .$row[Results].br\n;
  print  br\n;
print  br\n;
}

Unquote.

In the above code, I want to format the text in only one field and that is
the field named Results.
Where do I put the PRE /PRE tags for formatting the text contained in
the mysql field Results?

Thanks
Denis

 Your problem is that HTML does not recognize newline or tab characters.

 The easy fix is to just surround the line by pre which will cause the
 newline and tab elements to show up.

 The hard fix, but nicer looking one, is to output your data in a table.

 be carefull with the results of mysql_fetch_array, array names are DB
 field names, for easier access =)

 ?php
 //connecting to the database
 $link = mysql_connect(localhost,lodestone,trypass);
 if(!$link)
   Print No connection to the database;

 if (!mysql_select_db(catapult_com)){

 $sql=SELECT OrgName From TableResults ORDER BY OrgName;

 //get result or show what happened
 $result=mysql_query($sql)or die(mysql_error());

 //start the select
 $content = select name=\organization\;

 while($orgData=mysql_fetch_array($result))
 {
   // note that OrgName is the field name in the database.
   // for value you may use the org_id instead, if you have one in the
 DB
   $content .= option
 value=\.$orgData['OrgName'].\.$orgData['OrgName']./option\n);
 }

 $content .=/select\n;

 echo $content;

 ?
 hope it helps :-)

[PHP] Photos and logos in MySQL + PHP

2002-12-26 Thread Denis L. Menezes
Hello friends,

I am making a website for our school. My requirement is that when any student searched
for a particular club, the logo of the club abd the chairperson's phot should
automatically be shown dynamically on the top of the page. For this to be done, I have
three questions, if any of you could please help me :

1. Can I place these photos and logos in the MySQL database, If so, what field type?

2. How can I make the admin page upload the photos and logos to the database?

3. How do I display these photos dynamically on the output webpage?

I know I am asking many questions, but none of the PHP books I own have the solutions
for this.

best regards

[PHP] remembering variables between many forms.

2002-06-03 Thread Denis L. Menezes

Hello friends.

Pls excuse me if this is too simple a question.

I have a mysql database running with PHG scripts for member registration,
find members etc which is running well. Now I want to make a system to send
the username and passwords to members if they have lost them.

the way I am doing it is : when the user logs in on the 1st page with his
email address, I take him to the second page where I ask the favourite
question from the database for which he must answer, then I check that the
answer is correct in a third page and send his email. My problem is that I
do not know how to remember the variable between the 1st and the third page.
I can manage between two pages but not between three pages.

Can someone help how I can remember the email address between the above
three pages?

Thanks very much
Denis

 Either Google is wrong (probably) or they are now allowing things like
 spaces into an email address. There are actually several things that are
 not allowed in a standard email address. Here is the code that I use.

ereg('^[-!#$%\'*+\\./0-9=?A-Z^_`a-z{|}~]+'.'@'.'[-!#$%\'*+\\/0-9=?A-Z^_`a-
z{|}~]+\.'.'[-!#$%\'*+\\./0-9=?A-Z^_`a-z{|}~]+$',
 $subarray))
 I am honestly not sure where I got this code, but it has always worked for
 me and I have not found any YET that are good address that this kills. I
 have also not found any bad ones YET that this lets through (unless the
 domain or user doesn't exist, of course).

 You also have to think about what kind of email validation you need. Do
you
 really need to control the format of the emails being stored in your
 database? Or do you need to control the validity of the emails being
stored
 in your database? There is a big difference. A valid email address
isn't
 necessarily one that is formated in the way you expect. It is one that
is
 active and can be mailed to. There are a number of techniques you can
use
 to determine that.

 Well.. anyway sorry for going off on a tangent there. In your search for
an
 email validator you got a bit more information than you expected. I hope
it
 was useful in some tiny miniscule sort of way. :)

 foreach (array_merge($_POST,$_GET) as $key=$val)

 You are not actually posting the form to a page with your PHP on... so its
 trying to insert that form into your DB before u actually fill it out.
 either check if the form has been posted before running your PHP, or split
 this into 2 pages

[PHP] Can anyone help?

2002-04-01 Thread Denis L. Menezes

Hello friends. I have two files as follows :

1. The test.htm is as follows :

html
head
titleUntitled Document/title
meta http-equiv=Content-Type content=text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

/head

body bgcolor=#FF text=#00
form name=form1 method=post action=testphp1.php
  p
input type=text name=newsid
  /p
  p
input type=text name=title
  /p
  p
input type=text name=author
  /p
  p
input type=text name=body
  /p
  p
input type=submit name=Submit value=Submit
  /p
  /form
/body

/html

2. The testphp1.php is as follows:

html
head
titleUntitled Document/title
meta http-equiv=Content-Type content=text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

/head

body bgcolor=#FF text=#00
?php
$link=mysql_connect(localhost,myid,Mypassword);
if ($link){
print link id is $link;
} else {
print error connecting to database;
}
$posted=time();

$query=INSERT INTO news (newsid,title, author, body, posted)
 //VALUES($newsid,'$title','$author', '$body', $posted);)
//Newsid is an INT, title is a VARCHAR author is a VARCHAR, body is a
VARCHAR
IF (mysql_query($query)){
  print Row added to table;
  } else {
  print error adding row;
  }
  ?
/body

/html

Explanation : I run the test.htm and then the testphp1.php executes well.
The databse is connected, but the error
error adding row appears all the time.

Can someone tell me my error in SDyntax?

Thanks
Denis

[PHP] Need help

2002-03-26 Thread Denis L. Menezes

Hello friends.

I am a newbie to php. I am trying to connect to mysql with php.

I have a website called www.abcresources.com
The mysql database set up by the hosting company is called
abc_resources.com
I have a table called addressbook

I log in into the admin page with my username as user and password as
12345. After that I do not use any username and password. So I am not sure
if I need a username and password in the connection string.

I have this line to connect :
if (!($link=mysql_connect($hostname,$username,$password))){
displayerr(sprintf(internal error %d:%s\n,
mysql_errno(), mysql_error()));

What should $hostname, $username and $password be in the globals.php file?

Thanks for help.
