I think it's just the accepted convention that nospam@ usually
points to an email black hole rather than a real account.

OK, gotcha. I set this up a long time ago just to have an alias that I
use for registrations etc, so that I can filter it at my email client
and know that most are not important. Also, I could probably delete it

I'd concatenate the employee's email and manager's email, and then use an
MD5 hash of it as the unique string. i.e:

$unique_id = md5 ( $employee_email . $manager_email );

For more info on what MD5 is, see
http://us2.php.net/manual/en/function.md5.php

Remember that there's no guarantee that any two strings won't map to the
same md5 hash, and so they are bad candidates for unique ids.

Even allowing for that, concatenating only the email addresses makes the
hash extremely vulnerable.

Better to add a salt and a timestamp, so your unique string becomes
something like:

unique_id = unix_timestamp + md5 (employee_unique_token +
manager_unique_token + random_string)

(All this assumes that you want the unique id to be unguessable for some
reason. Personally, I'd just put the primary key associated with the job in
the URL, and password-protect the site. Much simpler.)

[PHP] Re: recommendation needed for dedicated server hosting

2002-12-18 Thread Kyle Gibson
Hi,
I recently went through a horrendous experience with two different hosting
providers. I'd like some recommendations on excellent hosting providers if
anybody has some.

My key priorities in order are:
1) around-the-clock, technically competent TELEPHONE support (webchat
support, message boards, email based support etc. will not do!)
2) reasonable hosting fees (no more than 300/month) for a dedicated server
3) services for the following - backup, OS upgrades/patching, security

If anybody has been with a company that they're happy with for at least a
year please leave some feedback. Thanks!

I've been with RackShack for a little more than a year now and I and
very satisfied with them.

HI all. I'm looking for a recommendation for an online PHP editor.

Here's what I mean

I mean a PHP program I can install on my web-server, then log in and use it to

The idea is that I could make changes and bugfixes to a web app while I'm away
from home/office.

Ideally it would be more than just a text editor, but also have syntax
highlighting and formatting for PHP built in.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Windows 7 RemoteApp and Desktop Connections feature may do it for you. I think
it will let you run a good editor on one PC from any other one.

Something i made up just now. Would it work if i make the ecommerce
system myself and build OpenCart support in it so that OpenCart
extensions can be installed in my oscommerce as well? Since then i
wouldn't have to bother about payment modules.

Though it does add a very complex translation layer from "my to be
build oscommerce" to the OpenCart system...

Well, i was basing my choice of Magento on the "internet opinion" and
magento seems the most popular system out there to use with most of
the required extensions already there. OpenCart doesn't seem to be as
recommended as Magento..
