[PHP] Cobalt RaQ XTR(slightly OT)

2001-04-03 Thread Phil Driscoll

I have a number of php4/mysql sites running from various NT boxes. I have
the opportunity to move a lot of stuff across from one of the NT boxes onto
a new Cobalt RaQ XTR. This job will have to be done in a hurry. If anyone
can prewarn me of any problems, or better still, tell me it will all run
like a dream, I'd be most grateful.

Cheers

I administer a few RaQs and have done a lot of work for clients with RaQs
(no XTRs yet). You may have to go through the web files and make sure paths
are correct and you'll need to chown and chmod the files to the proper
values. Of course you'll need to recreate entries in the MySQL 'mysql'
database. If you're migrating any of the sites to a newer version of PHP or
from a much older version you may have some compatibility problems with some
functions and may need to go through some code. And if the new and old
versions are configured differently (like having differences in whether
magic quotes is on/off and short PHP tags are on/off) you may have to make
some code changes. Otherwise it should be a pretty smooth transition.

[PHP] Cobalt RaQ

2001-02-05 Thread szii

After hearing about "Coalt RaQ" a number of times on the list,
I thought I'd cruise over and check them out.

After doing so, I'm of the opinion that I'm missing something.

$1,200 USD for a 300Mhz 1u box? $2,699 for a $450 w/256M RAM?
$3,599 for a $450 w/512 RAM and a dual 30G HDs?

What am I missing? You can get a dual-P3 800 w/ 256 RAM
and a single 15G HD in a 1u for $2400 USD. With RAM and
HDs being so cheap now, Is there something special about
the RaQs? Software? Support? I just don't see anything to
warrant the higher pricing. Are they RISC based and use the
more expensive Sun chips with 2M SRAM?

Thanks...

I'ts also the small footprint (ideal for racking at large ISP's and Data
Centres: the prime market positioning of these boxes) and excellent MTBF's
(they just keep on trucking..)

You can also install SSH to maintain an encrypted 'telnet' session.

The reason they're so expensive is not the hardware, it's the complete
webbased administration tool you're paying for. The users these products
are
targeted at, are those who can't administrate a server through a standard
 SSH/Telnet connection.

1u is 1u. There's no difference in size between the RaQ and a
standard 1u box, like the ones I described in my previous
post.

Re: [PHP] Cobalt Raq Servers PHP

I currently have a dedicated RaQ3 server which runs PHP great. Before I got
the RaQ3 my host provider was using a RaQ4 which also ran great. No problems
on my end using the RaQ servers and PHP.

Subject: [PHP] Cobalt Raq/PHP Help Needed

Hi all, this list to date has been extremely helpful and I thought you might
be able to help with my latest problem.

I have a Cobalt Raq and need to host many different domain names but have
them all point to one directory. e.g.

web site is called www.frogtrade.com - I am currently allowing various
companies to use www.frogtrade.com/companyname which allows them access to
the system. Some clients, however want to use their own domain name rather
than the frogtrade name. The Cobalt Raq, by default creates an entirely new
directory structure. How do I get this to point at the same frogtrade
directory structure?

I am desperate for this help, but don't know where else to turn. Any help
greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Gareth Davies
