[snip] I haven't heard of BDC. Did you mean BCD (binary coded decimal)? Or possibly EBCDIC? (What platform is this data coming from?) If it's EBCDIC data, there are plenty of translation tables you can use, (but you won't find a one-to-one correspondence in their character sets).
