I think Pinhole Day should be Sunday, April 29. It's probably a good
compromise between the hemispheres (although I could be a Northern Hemisphere

Also, from a purely selfish point of view, it gives me a deadline to
finish my Bender 4x5 camera I got last Christmas!!

[pinhole-discussion] World-wide Pinhole Day

2001-02-15 Thread Tom Miller
Dear All,

Since pinhole often reveals the delights of randomness and chance,
maybe World-wide Pinhole Day could be selected by pulling a date out
of a hat, each year. Every holiday I can think of has a rational,
repetitive scheme to determine when it happens, even Easter. Perhaps
Pinhole Day could be different each year based on a random drawing.
This would give all seasons in both hemispheres an equal chance of
being honored by the Pinhole Day designation. Over time, the images
would reflect the entirety of human and natural experience.

We could use the date of Leonardo da Vinci's birthday, April 15, 1452.
Oooh,
Tax Day in the US!g But also a SUNDAY this year.

You want a TAX day? In Canada an average tax payer works from January/01
to July/05 just to pay all levels of taxes, so what about July/06 so I can
celebrate TAX FREEDOM DAY and PINHOLE DAY at once!! two very joyful
occasions, I'd say.

Maybe notI still like April/29th better.

Thanks for posting the panoramas, Jon. I'm getting interested in this idea
and would like to help with it. I can offer the web space and a web
application to upload the images plus information about each one into a
database. For example, we would probably want to include the
photographer's name, country, city or town, and a description about the
photo. These would be available for viewing immediately after they are
uploaded. I think a simple map of the globe marked with dots from where
each person is from would be nice. One could list the photos and text by
name, city, country, etc. For anyone who doesn't have access to a scanner,
we would need some volunteers to scan other's photos. It would be good to
have different folks to organize it, help scan, add dots (links) to a map,
etc. These are just some suggestions...

[pinhole-discussion] Happy Pinholer's Day

Hello everybody!
I'm new to the list and so far I like it a lot!!

I have followed the discussion of the Happy Pinholer's Day (what a great
idea!!!) and I feel there is a need for some kind of summary...

1. We need to decide what day to make the Happy Pinholer's Day. I personally
like the thought of choosing the birthday of the list or the birthday of
Pinhole Vision as the day (who knows which days these are???) (or maybe the
week-end following the birthday in question so that everyone that has a job
to do has a chance...) because spring, winter, rain, sunshine whatever:
every day is a good day for pinholing, as someone said. The point is that we
want to celebrate something (right!?).

2. the photos taken this day should be put on a web site. Who will arrange
for this?

3. A book!? even better...

4. have I forgotten something?

So firstly: how can we decide what day to make the Happy Pinholer's Day? Is
it possible to vote in some way??

Cheers
Anna

PINHOLE DISCUSSION MAILING LIST
Document dated: February 15, 2001

PURPOSE OF THE LIST:
The purpose of the pinhole discussion mailing list is the discussion of any
and all aspects of pinhole photography. All messages sent to this list
should be related to pinhole photography.

THE RULES OF THE LIST:
There are no specific rules for participating on this list. But everyone is
reminded that list membership is a privilege, and list members are expected
to treat each other with proper respect. Personal attacks or flames will
not be tolerated and can get one banned from the list.

If you encounter any problems of any kind in using the list, please notify
James Kellar at ja...@kellar.com or Gregg Kemp at gregg.kemp@p at ???.
Please do not send problems you may encounter to the list. The only ones
who can help you solve these problems are James and Gregg.

REPLYING TO POSTINGS:
Messages sent to you via the discussion list are set up to behave
differently from messages sent to you by an individual. When you reply
(using your email program's reply feature) to messages you receive from the
list, your reply will automatically be directed back to the mailing list
and NOT to the person who sent the message. The list program creates a
Replyto: discussion-list@p at ??? line in the mail message header. This
tells your email program to send the message back to the list rather than
the person who originally sent the message.

In order to send a private message back to someone who sent a message
through the list by replying, you must change the To: address from
pinhole-discussion@p at ??? to the individual's e-mail address.

Note that if someone puts the list in the Cc: field rather than the To:
field, the reply may go to the sender rather than the list. For this
reason, it is ALWAYS a good idea to check who you are sending an e-mail to
before sending it.

ATTACHMENTS
Attachments are files that are attached to an email message. The email
system is designed to send messages using standard ASCII character set.
Attachments are a way of sending a content that uses characters outside of
the ASCII standard.

Attachments are not welcome on this list. They are large. They usually can
only be accessed with a specific program. They can unintentionally carry
viruses. A significant portion of the list is unable to use attachments.
Please do not send attachments to the list. All email to the list should be
send as plain text. This is the one and only standard used by all computers
and all email programs.

Some email programs by default send email messages as attachments, the MS
Outlook Express and Netscape's Communicator are often set up to send all
email messages as two attachments, one in plain text (ASCII) and one in
'rich' text (html format). If you use these programs please change your
setting so that your messages will be sent as plain text ONLY.

WARNINGS, VIRUSES, TAXES, END OF THE WORLD ETC
There are always a number of hoaxes traversing the net, where one is urged
to email an urgent warning message concerning some catastrophic new virus,
government policy, etc to everyone you know These are almost always
hoaxes. Do not send copies of these to the list, even if you are sure it is
legitimate.

SUBSCRIBING, UNSUBSCRIBING, and changing PREFERENCES

1) go to: http://www.p at ???/discussion/

2) enter your email to enter your account (this is near the bottom of the

Hey, I'm on the band wagon. As far as I'm conserned lets make The last
Sunday in April, World Wide Pinhole Photography Day. Do I hear a second or
should I say a third? Every one takes a photo on that day and we put up a
web site showing all the images. This sounds like fun.

Re: [pinhole-discussion] an image after all :)

Nice picture Harry,
Very mysterious: the eyes keep moving from the forefront to the
background and can't settle in either area. The cold tone also adds to
the mystery. Seems you've really got something with your saw blade
camera!
But what happened to the problem you mentionned earlier with vertical
lines and horizontals?

Hi Zernike Au,
I love your Idea!!
Beate from Germany

Today is Pinholer's Day. We don't know how it comes. We just know there
are
a group of people about 1000 (maybe 1200) years ago use a special box with
a
small hole to capture memory (they call it images), it's amazing that our
advance technology can't do that! They use oat tin, box, shoes, pepper,
saw
blade to capture memories, all these material can only be found in the
museum now!!! They come from all over the world and they communicate with
an
old method call email, they meet together at Pinhole Vision, now we
cannot find the location of this country.
In this day, photo lovers will put away their expensive camera equipment
and
capture memories with whatever materials that they can use.
So, HAPPY PINHOLER'S DAY to you all.

 Enjoy Pinholing!

 Harry,
Very interesting picture, just a bit mysterious with this blue overall
colour... How long did you stay staring at your saw-blades ? Strange people
we are, we pinholers and that makes us discover strange new realities...
 Bravo again

Jean,
That exposure was 35seconds.I cant sit still for 5 seconds :)
