Ed,

Very best wishes for the opening on Friday. The text you wrote to accompany
your images is very beautiful.

I took the liberty of contacting the museum to inquire about the availability
of the catalogue you mentionned. They may suddenly get a surge in Email about
the catalogue from other members of the list. I'll post any reply I get from
them.

Again, best wishes for Friday!

The PolyConic one is sort of an anamorphic version...never seen this before.
Its a 31k image though, even if we could legally use it

Mark,
I really, really like the results. And I agree, the lens camera could never
provide the feeling of your images. Its purpose is to come as close as possible
to the 'real' thing! Funny that they spend so much efforts transforming the
'real thing' so that it looks like 'something else' that is palatable and that
can be easily commercialized...!

I beleive that Chris Peregoy from this list does similar things as you
(rephotographing cutouts with a pinhole). But then he blows the images up on
transparent lith film and hangs them from the ceiling. This is the stuff he
showed at Why Pinhole? in Rochester.
Cheers,

Guy

hi all, thanks for the positive feedback on the images.
guy, you had it right as far as how they were done. the figures are normal
photos that are cut out, placed in miniature environments then
re-photographed with the pinhole. i tried doing the same thing with a lens
camera but the results were awful. flat and uninteresting. the pinhole
camera has the ability to transform what it sees into something mysterious
 and unified.
btw- a diorama is basically a model, or a miniature environment.

they are taken with a 4x5 polaroid back with a cardboard box taped on the
front and type 55 film. the figures are cutouts placed in dioramas or in
front of painted backdrops. comments welcome.

[pinhole-discussion] A rose in winter

2001-02-19 Thread Guy Glorieux
Hi all,

It was the day after Valentine day and the sun was casting a beautiful
light in the windows of the appartment. So I took the vase with the
flowers I had offered my wife, placed it in the window and took this
pinhole photograph...
http://www.p at ???/discussion/upload/images/roseinwinter2.jpg
The image is printed on Luminos charcoal fiber paper.
There is a world of difference in the texture, compared to the RC print
I did for my tests. You can get a feel visually, but too bad internet
does not allow touching the print, but I'm sure all you fiber printers
out there know what I mean...-:))
Best,

Guy

Mark,
I love your images. I'm not quite sure I understand what you did,
though. Did you take photographs of these women, cut them out and
rephotographed them with a pinhole using a different background? Or do
I get it all wrong? What is a diorama?
The result is very beautiful, very mysterious. Sort of like Alice in
Wonderland atmosphere in them.
Cheers,
Guy

Yes, it seems to me that given the creative bunch we
