Re: [pinhole-discussion] Wroldwide Pinhole Photography Day Logo Poll
Very good point, Michael! In fact, unless we find a generous donator, we can be sure that a lot of the paper printed material that will be circulated or posted will be black and white! Of course, we can all use our inkjet printer to print the color Logo on nice paper and then make copies of the Press Release or any other documents that will go with the promotion of WPP-Day! [pinhole-discussion] Re: New Camera Design
There was a question about the value of having a ground glass on a PH/ZP camera I found this information on the Photo Technical Group site. There are PDF's for the camera and an exposure calculator. Ground Glass Back: Due to the small size of the pinhole and zone plate apertures, using the ground glass to compose or frame the image can be somewhat difficult. The view is REALLY dark! To use the ground glass back, a dark cloth with an elastic band that fits tightly around the camera body and your head is required. All light must be shielded from the rear of the ground glass! When using this method, use the zone plate instead of the pinhole for viewing, then orient the desired aperture when you are ready to make the shot. Happy Trails, Kurt Norlin
RE: [pinhole-discussion] Wroldwide Pinhole Photography Day Logo Poll
It's wise to think about whether a logo will need to be translated to black and white for certain needs. If so, the logo should be chosen with that need in mind.

Re: [pinhole-discussion] Wroldwide Pinhole Photography Day Logo Poll
I just voted in the survey, but I want to take the opportunity to lobby for the design with the pinhole photographer on top of the world. That really makes a statement, doesn't it? Seriously, though, it's my favorite because it says world AND pinhole photography without looking corporate. I love it. Kudos to the artist. I only wrote this note because I thought the design was kind of buried under the other ones, and thought it should get more attention. Thanks, Simon

Thanks Leezy It is a nice idea. If your son is OK for that , make me know so that I may get him in touch with an other translator in Dutch ! [pinhole-discussion] Wroldwide Pinhole Photography Day Logo Poll
At this time I want to annouce to the Disscussion Group that we now have a poll for you to Vote on which logo you would like to see for the WPPD. A couple things you might want to consider before you vote. The logo will be used with and with out the text that goes along with it. Not all the logos have the correct text. The logos were submitted before the name of the site was choosen. The logo choosen logo might chang a bit as web site issues crop up. The logo will in some way influence who the site will look over all. You can find the polling site at http://www.p at ???/discussion/polls.php You will have untill Saturday 19:00 GMT to vote. Thanks James

Do we need someone for Dutch translation? If so, I'll ask my son. He lived in Amsterdam for quite a long time. Best to all, leezy

Hello Dieter, Thanks for working on the German translation of PR. you wrote : > I am working on the German version already. The translations will be used in 2 manners : directly, on the web site and also for all kinds of distribution (paper media, attached file with an e-mail sent to a potential promotion target, etc.) When your translation is over - and I should suggest you to have a "crossed check" of it with another multilingual German speaking member of the list (I am thinking of Beate Knappe if she accepts : kna...@mail.stak.nrw.de) - please be kind enough to send me your translation so that I may make it available to be added to the site and that we can "label" it as official and definitive German translation which can be then distributed by "promotioners" to the German speaking contacts. [pinhole-discussion] Progress report on WPPD
Hi all, I wanted to update everyone on where things are regarding the 1st worldewide pinhole photography day (WPPD). 1) The official press release has been finalized. A lot of work has gone into crafting this statement. It was drafted by several people on the organizing team working together, incorporating input from several people on the discussion list. Thanks to everyone who gave their time and thought in putting this together. We feel that we've come up with a excellent statement for this year's event. 2) We are working hard to translate the press release into several languages, and then begin distributing it around the world. Jean Daubas is coordinating the translation efforts. 3) We are working out the details of a plan for distributing the press release, and any other supporting documents that may be used. Part of that plan's success will depend on the help of list members. There will be more posted about that soon. 4) We are also working hard to put enough information on the pinhole day web site to support the press release. We believe it is important that we NOT advertise the URL of the web site until there is adequate information to explain how pinhole day will function and some support for helping first time (or experienced) pinholers participate in the day and the site exhibit. Many of us on the organizing team are putting in heavy hours in an effort to do this right and do it well. I think are making great progress. We appreciate everyone's patience, support, input, and cooperation in this "pinhole list" project and event. We hope to have the solid beginning of a web site ready by this weekend. At that time we also hope to be ready to begin distribution of the press release in several languages, and in several formats. Thanks everyone - this is going to happen! Thanks for your comment. The Press Release, like any other document intending to convey a particular message from a group of people, was developed through the efforts and input of several members of the Coordinating Team. The wording and paragraph structure were chosen following a lot of group discussion and successive iterations on what we believed was the best way of transmitting the message to the media that a group of pinhole photographers were launching a worldwide pinhole photography day. Colin did a splendid job at providing a fresh perspective on what we had put together from my initial draft press release some three weeks ago and we retained many of the improvements he generously offered. At the same time, there were also many times where the specific wording we had chosen was based on a thorough discussion of what we really intended to say and we decided to retain that particular wording or structure. This was not intended to minimize Colin's efforts, but rather to add one additional level of contribution to a collective effort. If you ever get involved in a similar process or if you get to read a lot of similar documents, you come to will realize that ultimately the final document constitutes the "common ground" between many different perspectives on each of the points being addressed, one of them being the requirement that it should read in the best possible language... -:)) Hope this helps! And, Colin, just a word to say that your input was tremendously appreciated! Cheers, Guy

This may be too late, as I didn't have a chance to read my mail since Thursday, but I think that Colin's edit of the press release reads better than the one posted on pinholeday.org. Simon
Re: [pinhole-discussion] using digital camera
I think this is evidenced in scanning using CCD's, too. As nearly as I can tell, CMOS somehow avoids this problem. [pinhole-discussion] Zone Plate design
I've read a number of papers explaining the physics of a Zone Plate. However, I haven't seen anything that deals with the number of Zones that comprise the Zone Plate. Is there an optimum number of zones? Does it change with the focal length? What is the effect on resolution & depth of field? Thanks, Eric Kees Medford OR

This leads to ´thermal noise´, that can be seen best in the dark parts of the image and that accumulates over time. Astronomers, who have kind of an addiction to long time exposures of dark skies, cool down their CCD cameras to minimize that noise. servus martin adler -- Sent through GMX FreeMail - http://www.gmx.net
Re: [pinhole-discussion] New Camera Design
It says extreme depth of field... and I would think that f/256 with a 2" focal length would be pretty extreme depth of field. I remember seeing this camera once before... maybe somebody posted it to the list? I'm curious if anybody has one. It seems like a lot of money for something that can be home-made pretty easily.
