 your odd zone plate shapes.

Dear Colin,
Not a problem. Just let me some time, I put my photo here and there, a bit
messy, I need to find it out. I once promise to show some of my mezzotint to
other members but still don't have time to prepare it.
Maybe some of you can try your own special shape zone plate and we post it
together later.

I think the AGFA plate fim I aquired inquired about on list a couple weeks
ago is similar. I contacted a graphic artist I know who has used the film
but they had not relayed info yet. If I get some I will send it on.

Tom,

I just received my zero image 4x5 yesterday. I picked up 2 extensions, plus the shutter and had it installed. Camera looks great, and is easy to use. Of course, I've only taken 2 pics with it (polaroids) to check it out real quick. I took them both at 25 mm (no extensions), one being zone plate, one pinhole. Both images looked great. I plan on taking many more over the next week, to put it through its paces.

The film back attaches with 2 rubber bands. Nice low tech solution. I'm planning on carrying extra rubber bands when shooting with the camera.

Colin,

Care to give us a mini-review of the camera? Did you get multiple
extensions and extra pinholes or zone plates with the turret? How
does the film back work?

RE: [pinhole-discussion] Re: Zone plates

2001-11-18 Thread Gary
I doubt that a domestic printer would give good enough coverage or
resolution etc but many graphic arts bureaux have high quality
imagesetters in-house these days. I've not used them for zone plates but
I've found that most will happily output a PostScript file (or other
formats) at very reasonable cost.

I think Zernike makes his ZPs digitally, don't hold your breath
waiting
for
him to contribute to this or any other thread, though (hope he
proves me
wrong!!). If I were to speculate. he may have a comercial image
setter
shop
giving him a complete sheet of film with lots of ZPs of different
focal
lengths as output from a digital file he may produce with Corel or
similar
program. I never seen one (digitally produced ZP) but I guess they
have
jagged edges compared with analog made ZPs, that may or may not
have
any
consecuences on the final image they produce. And no, I don't think
a
consumer or low end comercial printer would work. Should you find
the
  opposite, let us know, pls.
 Hi!
I have a CI5000 Polaroid Film Recorder, and if anyone is interested in
developing a Photoshop or similar file to print zone plates with
varying
focal lengths, I would be interested in working on this project. I
don't
really have the knowledge to develop the file, but I would be able to
print
them out and share with other pinhole discussion members who would be
willing
 to work on this project.

Hello Michele,
Sorry I have miss this thread.
You are right, I make my ZPs digitally. I am not doing it at home. I
must
send it to a professional output company. They have high-end equipment
to
meet the high standard and they charge me in a rather high rate!
(because
they have to special tune their machine according to our request)
If you want to make your own, use the re-photo method.
You can try to print a zone plate to a transparent with your print (not
matter what is the resolution, use the highest you can) and mount it to
your
camera and shot. You will got your own special zone plate camera that no
one
can do the same as yours.
I have try star-shape (star instead of circle) zone plate, irregular
zone
plate, oval-shape zone plate. I take the photo with all this zone plates
by
guess the exposure time (because it is impossible to find a formula to
calculate the f/stop or the exposure time). I can't believe! They all
works!
The image is poetic (just my opinion :-))
The pinhole world is amazing, just try it and you will always got a big
surprise. Enjoy it!

[pinhole-discussion] Kodak Rapid Access developer/graphic arts film

2001-11-18 Thread Uptown Gallery
Hello:

I inquired with the local newspaper regarding their large sheet film
thinking it would be economical for large format experiments.

They didn't tell me what brand or type, but said they use 'Rapid Access'
developer.

Anyone know if this is a common product or industrial? I don't recognize it,
but that doesn't mean anything.

Anyone ever use such graphic arts film?

Thanks

Murray
