Re: [pinhole-discussion] question and website

2002-03-01 Thread R Duarte
My votes are for either a burr on the edge of the pinhole or reflection
inside of the camera. For the former, try taking the pinhole "plate" out of
the camera and scanning it into photoshop or something - then enlarge it and
see if it still looks round. For the latter.. did you blacken everything
inside the camera, including the space directly around the pinhole? Just
some guesses.. I hope you either "fix" it, or work it into your images. :)

hi Daniel , on your pinhle camera, was the hole pre drilled, punched in
with a needle or drilled by you. When you drill your own pinholes ,
watch out for burrs left on the inside of the camera ..regards

Re: [pinhole-discussion] question and website

2002-03-01 Thread Guy Glorieux
Very nice work Daniel.

I think that Tom is right when he refers to flare. I've had this happen
to me as well. It's interesting that the flare seems to be almost
identical in all cases, because it comes from flare on a circular hole.
If you look at flare on a lens photograph, it will generally reproduce
the shape of the iris. Yet, iris flare does not usually have the kind
of "breaking wave" pattern which shows up on your prints (or mine, for
that matter).

My two favorites are "sushade" and "palms". It feels like ancient times
pacific island or asia imagery, close to early autochromes. Very nice
composition in both cases: very stable in the case of "sunshade" and
quite dynamic in the case of "palms".

Best wishes,

Guy

That's some sort of diffraction pattern, I assume from internal reflections.
if you figure it out let me know. i made one camera that did the same thing
and i could never isolate the source.

2002-03-01 Thread Tom Miller
It looks like flare from bright light hitting the pinhole. This can
happen if sunlight it hitting the pinhole during an exposure. My
guess is that the sun was behind you for "me." The same effect can
happen if bright sunlight is reflecting off of a shiny surface. This
may be what happened in "water."

2002-03-01 Thread Derek Clarke
Cheap cameras can't cope with long exposures.

They don't have shutters that can open for long and they don't have
anti-noise processing to cope.

[pinhole-discussion] Response to Stephen Rees site + general question

2002-03-01 Thread Alan Partlow
Gorgeous images Stephen. I am especially drawn to the color (or as you say in
the U.K. "colour") images.

This is my first posting to this list, though i've been eavesdropping on it for
a while now. I have a general question concerning curved film plane images.
From viewing Stephens' View From a Beer can I noticed the dreaded vertical
lines caused by light bouncing off of the edges of the film. I have
experienced this time and time again even when using matte finished paper negs
(if the curve is extreme enough.) Perhaps this topic has been covered ad
nauseam, if so I apologise. Any advice?

RE: [pinhole-discussion] upload gallery

2002-03-01 Thread Gregg Kemp
The upload page has been restored to the upload gallery.

http://www.???/discussion/

For those interested in the details, a major security hole was discovered in
the PHP scripting language that is used throughout the Pinhole Visions web
site. The bug was in the file upload functions of PHP. An update to this
serious bug was provided by the PHP development community within hours of the
discovery, and Pair Networks, the web service provider that I use installed the
update, also within hours. I've been with Pair for nearly 5 years and can't
say enough good things about them.

On the flip side, since the upgrade was a major jump from the previous version
that was running, there may be side effects of the change that could break
other things on the site. So, if anyone notices any problems on the PV site, I
would be grateful if you would send me an email at gregg.kemp@??? (rather
than posting to the list).

Thanks,

Gregg
