Re: [pinhole-discussion] Pinhole panoramic camera

2002-07-24 Thread Tom Miller
Hi Mark and All,

My first thought on reading this post was Kurt Mottweiler's
Pinoramic 120. It looks like he is redesigning his website...
http://www.cnsp.com/mdesign/ ...there is not much info on his cameras
there right now. Pinoramics have turned up on eBay once or twice.

Related thought: Chris Faust is a wonderful photographer whose work is
nearly all panoramic. He has also done pinhole work, including
teaching a group which participated in WPPD this year. One of my
favorites, which was taken with a Pinoramic, is in the middle of this
mostly unrelated link:
http://www.electricedge.com/greymatter/archives/0713.htm Chris
also has an image in the Pinhole Journal, Vol 12 #3. It was made by
placing a zone plate on an old Cirkut camera. The image in Pinhole
Journal mentions that the image is 4.5" by 31". At a local pinhole
gathering, Chris showed us a print of this image that was 18 feet
long!

There is a magazine called Panorama, put out by the International
Association of Panoramic Photographers. In it are lots of different
panarama cameras. Their web site is http://www.panphoto.com/
and they are having a convention in Shepherdstown, WV Oct 8-13 this
year. I found this real interesting lens camera in this magazine, perhaps it
could be modified for pinhole. http://panoramacamera.us/

[pinhole-discussion] pinhole flash

Thanks to everyone for all the info on measuring the size of pinholes.
For Maragaret, I take a lot of pinhole photos with flash, using a junk
flash unit from the Goodwill or my 3200 Strobe. Just try it - 5 flashes,
10 flashes and so on to make an exposure index. Jean

You can, but most strobes don't put out enough light to give adequate
exposure with just one shot. Using a flash meter, find the distance from the
object that gives you an F22 reading, then find the multiple of f22 your
pinhole needs and give that many shots with the strobe.

Hello I. Zarkov! (it is Igor?)
The use of EM grids is not my idea. I got fascinated with it after visiting
Chris Patton's pinhole pages. And, since he is from the same institute as I
am, initially I thought, he is from the same campus and started
communication with him about using the grids, so idea is his. I am attaching
a link below about the purchase and price. I don't have any more grids, I
got few from Chris and they are installed on my brass plates already. I am
using 100uM grid (actually, it is not a grid, it is a single circular hole,
as against to our usual 'grid' grids of EM). I tried 75uM that Chris sent me
and it was creating too much diffusion (~6 Inch focal length body). I had
pasted the link before but here is my link using this grid again along with
purchase links:

Re: [pinhole-discussion] pinhole and strobe?

2002-07-24 Thread Thom Mitchell
A possible reason for having problems taking flash pictures with your
pinhole might be not enough output for your flash. Check your guide number
and make sure it's adequate for the f/Stop of your pinhole. The alternative
if it is not, would be to multiple flashes while keeping your pinhole open.
Obviously this works better in the studio where light can be controlled or
outside at night. Multiple pops of a strobe is a technique often used to
photograph building/scenes at night.
Can you give more information on either the problems you are having
and/or what you want to photograph? Best of luck regardless. Thom

I am afraid that can't be explained, as it is perfectly possible to make

I recommend using bookfinder.com for these kinds of searches. Right now
I see used copies starting at $16.98 and new copies at Powell's and
BookStreet.com; I've had excellent luck buying from Powell's in the past.

Margaret

I can take pictures with a flash with my pinholes. I do it all the time.
What do you get when you try it? I guess if you are using one with a really
show speed it might take a lot more flashes. But I've done it with a 35mm
camera modified with a pinhole on the front, and with small boxes I've made
myself.

[pinhole-discussion] Pinhole size measurement

2002-07-24 Thread Karen Carter
Hi,
I used the method in the Renner book, the method
developed by Bender. There is a scale ruler and a
calabration set and then into the enlarger. This
method works great! I conducted a camp with 9-11year
olds and they drilled their own pinholes and then we
measured them. The final results were astounding,
clarity and sharpness were terrific.
I must admit I was very skeptical and I checked the
accuracy of the measurement devise with a Purchased
Pinhole and it was only about .02mm +/- off.
As other have addressed in this discussion your
measurement does not have to be dead on, a little bit
of mismeasurement is manageable
Good luck,
Karen Carter

How big is the size of the openings within the grids? As I remember from

I've been working on a three hole 120 camera design but its more on the
principle of Gordon's camera. With mine you get a 180 degree panorama of
overlapping images with a negative about 5 inches long. You can even
shoot 180 degrees and advance the film and shoot the other direction to
get a 360 degree image. I posted a picture of it to the upload gallery
