RE: [pinhole-discussion] fogging in half-cylinder cameras.

2002-07-18 Thread Frans van Dijk
Hi William,

For these purposes the black paint used for writing black-boards is ideal.
These days the writing boards are usually green, but the black paint is
still widely available in The Netherlands. It is intended to make the chalc
crayon leave behind a trace by its roughness and give maximum contrast by
not reflecting any light. What more can you ask for.

Onderwerp: [pinhole-discussion] fogging in half-cylinder cameras.

I have made a half cylinder camera for 8x10 negatives. I find that I have
far more trouble with fogging due to interior reflection than I have ever
seen with cylindrical cameras where the negative takes up only the back half
of the cylinder. In this camera, the angle of view approaches 180 degrees,
with the edges of the neg butted right up against the front of the camera. I
haven't had fully matte paper to use, and haven't tried film yet, but I
will. Has anyone used the polymax fine art paper that is double matte? I
sent for some. has anyone tried some sort of a baffle system that might
quench some of the random bouncing around of light?

[pinhole-discussion] intrododuction Frans van Dijk

2002-01-04 Thread Frans van Dijk
Can anyone of you help me with the problem of loading up images to share
with listmembers, but first let me introduce myself.

I Frans van Dijk live in Hillegom, The Neth. at 10 miles from Amsterdam. I
have been following your discussion-list for about half a year now, and am
very pleased by the gentle and respectful way the members of this list
interact on both the technology and artistic qualities of pinhole
photography.

My own practice stems from pinhole-projects I did at schools with 9 to 12
year old children.
In recent years I worked for myself with a Linhof technical camera equipped
with a pinhole instead of a lens and a homebuilt wooden camera. Both
camera´s are equipped with the same Polaroid cassette and will also take
sheetfilm in 4X5 inch.

Mostly I scan the positives and work on them in Photoshop to print the
results on Lyson Fine Arts Paper and durable inks up to a size of max. 12 X
16 inches.

Since I whould like to share some images with you (one images is a thousand
words) and get your comment on them, I tried to upload some files however I
don´s come through.
Can anyone give me some aid. I do have a password, and my files are under 50
kb.
Thank you so much.
