[pinhole-discussion] time stands still
With lens photography you walk through a park, stalk your prey and at 1/500 sec. zap, you got it. With pinhole photography you walk through a park, stalk your prey, check lighting conditions, shadows, where to place the cookie can and remove ever so gently the electrical tape covering the pinhole. Aah 5 mins. of peace while the magic happens. regards mickey a happy life is made up of many happy moments

Re: [pinhole-discussion] Anyone seen any interesting work lately?
Gallery openings are always exciting and i could not wait to see this one at the French Institute Alliance Francaise. I loved the "esplanade du louvre" by Richard Ballarian in the lobby. Then we entered the gallery and on the right was the rest of Ballarian's work. All I can say is that it was a bit abstract for me. On the left wall of the gallery was Robert Mann's work. I usually like his photography but this body of work was not my cup of tea. Dead Ahead was Ian Paterson's photographs; his work always excites me. The first time I viewed a piece by Ian as when I lived in Montreal and he showed photography done with a shoebox. I was not into pinhole at the time but loved what he was doing. His photos of little bridges of Paris at the Alliance were about 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 inches, contact-printed and hand-tinted. They were mounted in large mats. It was magical; they were like little jewels. The show is on at the Alliance until January 6, 2002. Salut et bonsoir, Mickey a happy life is made up of many happy moments

The cameras are vary durable, mine spend most of there lives rattling around in whatever bag or backpack i am carrying. My only conssesion th the material has been to mount the pinhole on the inside of the front board. this prevents the hole to film plane distance from changing, if the front board is compressed with my standered camera abuse. jeff

The mirror/lens/shutter etc are fairly esaly removed, unforunatly i could not keep the film counter, leading to the ocasonal mythical image. I built the "top" half of my camera from black fomecore and photo tape. Without the mirror you will get a "flopped" image, as you are looking..esentaly..at the emulsion side of a transperancy. I don't consider this a problem, i scan the images and flop them back in the gimp. I have in fact built an Izone pinhole...but since i tend toward short focal distances...i have yet to produce a satisfactory hole, but it should be interesting...:) jeff

The camera is in two sections , top and bottom, with the film handling mechanism in the bottom half. Making it relitivly easy to convert. The only hassle i had was in trying to preserve the film counter, i failed. This of course leads me to ocasonal exposiourses without benefit of film..:). The film is in fact ISO 640. It responds "reasonably well" to long exposior under daylight, not well at all under tungsten, and surprisingly well under sodium vapor. I don't have any tables for you, i have never worked them out. The only other thing to mention is that since this is an "SX70" type film. It is intended to be exposed "behind" a mirror, if you take out the mirror your images will be flopped, not much of a problem in the age of scanners. jeff

Re: [pinhole-discussion] body as camera
will you be doing multiple exposures, and if you plan to shoot indoors how many 'poops' of a flash would it take? a happy life is made up of many happy moments --- Begin Message --- I am considering using bodily orifices for pinhole photo's. Yeah I know that french guy used his mouth as a camera and that was pretty cool but it's been done. I will probably be limited to smaller formats so you can expect some graininess. I'll go into the darkroom & hide a (400 ASA) 35mm black and white negative where the sun don't shine (I'll probably just load one frame at a time, not the entire roll as I have no film advance) then cover my cheeks w/ duct tape which I have pierced with a .025 mm pinhole, well grainy gritty images are what I'm gonna get! It will suit the whole thing quite well (don't try this at home , I have labored to find the correct location for the pinhole, and duct tape is designed to be difficult to remove) maybe I could use that camera tape that was discussed earlier.
