RE: [pinhole-discussion] Release Forms
Hello all, I work in a professional studio for a large corporation and we use releases for virtually all of our photography, and especially for any portrayal of people. In this day and age I would get signed releases from any model, even friends, and especially if you are doing nude work. We work mostly with professional agencies which have their own releases that we sign, but our release form is the one that spells out our rights as the owners of the photos and what we may do with them. If you are interested, I can ask for permission to pass along the "guts" of the form that we use (it is worded specifically with the publication of photos in mind since we are a greeting card company). It pretty much says that we are the sole owners of the images and have the right to publish, alter and use them in any way we see fit. However, we do not assume that the standard release covers web use- for that we obtain additional permission. Web use is a line in the sand that should not be crossed without explicit permission from everyone portrayed. Most of our work is rated "G", but we do stray into more risque work for some of our product. Our amateur (non-agency) talent sign the same form. Re: [pinhole-discussion] Release Forms
Eric, Thanks for your UK thoughts. I'm not positive, but my understanding is if they are in the picture, your need a release. As well as release forms, I wanted input about the practice. Sorry I didn't respond sooner, my server has been down for a week and it is only now starting to dribble in a few emails a day. It will probably be another week before I get emails sent today. Re: [pinhole-discussion] Release Forms
mike, here in the UK the only time I have used release forms is when I used to do nude studies with male /female models . that was some time ago this was for there protection as much as the photographers . if what you intend doing candid shots well I'm not sure. ive never bothered (infact all my present work have no people in them and I get annoyed if they get in my way even landscapes) However if they do not show faces but more like places with people and it is pinhole. I would not think you would need to worry about it . and it also depends on the publication. having send all this remember I'm talking the U.K., what its like over the pond well you do live in a suing society .
