Bug#850921: why do we still have openjfx-java version 8 in unstable ?

2018-05-12 Thread shirish शिरीष
Dear maintainer,

Why do we have libopenjfx-java version 8 in unstable -

$ apt-cache policy libopenjfx-java
libopenjfx-java:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 8u161-b12-1
  Version table:
 8u161-b12-1 100
100 http://cdn-fastly.deb.debian.org/debian unstable/main amd64 Packages

When now the default-jre in testing is openjdk-10

$ aptitude show default-jre=2:1.10-65
Package: default-jre
Version: 2:1.10-65
State: installed
Automatically installed: yes
Priority: optional
Section: java
Maintainer: Debian Java Maintainers

Architecture: amd64
Uncompressed Size: 6,144
Depends: default-jre-headless (= 2:1.10-65), openjdk-10-jre
Suggests: default-java-plugin
Provides: java-runtime, java10-runtime, java2-runtime, java5-runtime,
java6-runtime, java7-runtime, java8-runtime, java9-runtime
Description: Standard Java or Java compatible Runtime
This dependency package points to the Java runtime, or Java
compatible runtime recommended for this architecture, which is
openjdk-10-jre for amd64.
Homepage: https://wiki.debian.org/Java/

The only sensible reason I see it being there, is when libopenjfx-java
would be separated from openjfk-java-jre in openjfk-11 release
supposed to be released sometime in September 2018 (probably end
September 2018) .

And if no major regressions are found then soonish in Debian testing.
so it's in time with Debian buster release. So for openjfx you
wouldn't have to go through the NEW queue and any transitions needed
could be quickly done.

If no major RC regressions are found, then be released with Debian
buster and any fixes can come in later release.

Is that the plan ?

which is pointed or linked to java-common's list of reported bugs

Bug#933264: don't think the new kotlin and hence new gradle will come soon.

2019-12-15 Thread shirish शिरीष
Dear Martin,

Don't think it wil happen soon, although would be delighted to be proved wrong.

From what I understand, there seems to be issues with kotlin's
packaging or some sources in kotlin's source package. See Emmanuel
Buorg's reply to a similar asked by me couple of months ago. [1] .

Although no reason to lose hope just yet as there was another small
update to gradle in sid and now in testing today [2]

I am guessing we either have to wait for the java-team to move forward
or if you have any programming/packaging skills and wish to contribute
such skills then you can start by asking the java-team [3] . Looking
forward to any news and updates on kotlin as and when possible :)

So are we going to have gradle 4.8 in either experimental or unstable soonish.

I'm sure you may have read the freeze time-table which was shared few days ago.

It would be nice to have all the components in debian tested etc. well
before freeze.

Hope to see the new releases of gradle, openjfx and rest of openjdk 11
dependencies so we have a java 11 transition if need be before hard
freeze comes up.

I can help with testing but that's all I can help with :(

I did see in the tracker though that the newer gradle isn't migrating towards
testing due to jgit which I didn't know was a package till I saw it -

tracker.debian.org/gradle

I also saw https://bugs.debian.org/905547 which is a wishlist bug for
getting a new version of jgit also which is one of the blockages of
transitioning to testing.

I am open to testing that as well . I did see that the recent commits
to jgit-cli and brethen were on 5th august last ,

~/games/eclipse-jgit$ git log
commit 609ea8c723cba1584f75cef8dc8378e9206cd4bd (HEAD -> master,
origin/master, origin/HEAD)
Author: Emmanuel Bourg
Date: Thu Aug 16 01:04:37 2018 +0200

Upload to unstable

and that's -

$ apt-cache policy jgit-cli
jgit-cli:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 3.7.1-5
  Version table:
 3.7.1-5 100
100 http://deb.debian.org/debian unstable/main amd64 Packages

Looking forward to testing a new version of jgit assuming of course it
doesn't have
any complexities or additional package requirements as the newer
gradle seems to have.

Bug#850921: you could help with jgit perhaps ?

2018-10-02 Thread shirish शिरीष
Dear Rudy,

Just saw your response on https://bugs.debian.org/850921 .

There is ongoing discussion on gradle bug https://bugs.debian.org/909905 .

Maybe packaging a new jgit (if possible) may make it easier.

You could join https://lists.debian.org/debian-java/ and also talk to
people there.

IIRC, there's also #debian-java on oftc.net as well.

Bug#911080: homepage of libfontawesomefx-java has moved.

2018-10-15 Thread shirish शिरीष
Package: libfontawesomefx-java
Version: 9.1.2-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,
The homepage seems to have moved from http://www.jensd.de to
https://www.jensd.de/wordpress/ and more specifically to
https://www.jensd.de/wordpress/?p=2572 . It does seem though that the
real home is https://bitbucket.org/Jerady/fontawesomefx/src/master/
from where the current version is taken. Maybe have that link in the
homepage .
