Package: arduino
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I can't install arduino because librxtx-java is missing.
Probably it is a ppc only issue.
Please fix it (for example adding the missing package) or remove it.
Anyway, package arduino-core works and ppc users can use it.

Package: librxtx-java
Version: 2.1.7r2-3
Severity: wishlist

In the static initializer of gnu.io.RXTXPort, an exception when
initializing the static variable 'z' is silently discarded:

try {
z = new Zystem();
} catch ( Exception e ) {};

This leads to NullPointerExceptions later, which are difficult
to debug as the original exception is lost.

I did change the code to
try {
z = new Zystem();
} catch ( Exception e ) {
throw new Error(e.toString());
};
for debugging. Probably a more specific exception would be more
appropriate, but the point is that leaving z undefined without reporting
an error makes debugging unnecessarily difficult.

I've had no time to check the details but there is a contents file at
 which
might be useful.

I downloaded the zip file from sourceforge[1] (hint: the homepage let you
go through a registration form otherwise) and inspected the lib directory
for jars which seem to be third party via

$ ls mpj-v0_38/lib/*.jar | grep -v "/mp"
mpj-v0_38/lib/daemon.jar
mpj-v0_38/lib/javax.servlet.jar
mpj-v0_38/lib/loader1.jar
mpj-v0_38/lib/loader2.jar
mpj-v0_38/lib/log4j-1.2.11.jar
mpj-v0_38/lib/mxdev.jar
mpj-v0_38/lib/niodev.jar
mpj-v0_38/lib/smpdev.jar
mpj-v0_38/lib/starter.jar
mpj-v0_38/lib/test.jar
mpj-v0_38/lib/tools.jar
mpj-v0_38/lib/wrapper.jar
mpj-v0_38/lib/xdev.jar

If this does not answer your question please tell me how I can relieably
find out the dependencies.

Kind regards

   Andreas.
