Bug#636554: jruby: New upstream release

Are there any plans to package 1.6.x? yes, but every helping hand is welcome! Is there a place where this plans are documented? What are they? I might be interested to help. I've already started a bit, but don't know java that much and hit some symbols not found errors at compilation time. The work was done to repackage jruby-1.6.7.2 in June: http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-java-maintainers/2012-June/039090.html It had no response. I presume that's because it re-ships the jars it requires rather than depending on existing Debian packages where they're available. If I were to suggest a starting point, it would be to get its dependencies up to date. -- Alex __ This is the maintainer address of Debian's Java team http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-java-maintainers. I've been testing the +dfsg4-2 package against a few local test suites and I can't see any regressions so far. I'll let you know if anything crops up. The open tasks are: - upstream update to latest 1.5.x - switch packaging to cdbs and dh - upstream update to 1.6.x - do no longer build bundle foreign classes into jruby.jar Thanks, -- Alex Cheers, Torsten On Wed, Sep 14, 2011 at 9:57 AM, Torsten Wernertwer...@debian.org wrote: Am 13.09.2011 12:22, schrieb Alex Young: Is this something we can help with? I seem to recall there was a problem of bundled jars not being distributed with their source - is that still the blocker? Yes it is. I have uploaded version 1.5.1+dfsg1-1 to experimental yesterday. This version has fewer bundled jar files in the orig tarball. Could you check if there are any regressions compared to the unstable version? I've seen some issues in the tests during the build. I'll try to find the cause for that. Torsten __ This is the maintainer address of Debian's Java team http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-java-maintainers. Do you know if there is a current attempt to package a more recent version of jruby than 1.5.1? If so, could you point me in the right direction? If not, it's just possible I might be able to convince my employer to stump up some manpower to take it on.
