IIRC, it was added just before squeeze release to fix some FTBFS (caused by ant
1.8.0) but ant 1.8.2 seems a bit better now. Maybe we should drop ant1.7...

there are still a few packages build depending on it.

there's nothing which hinders you to still have the current version in stable.
The license isn't changed for the existing package. It's up to the
security/release teams to decide if they want to have a version with known
security issues in the stable release (in the past the security team didn't care
about this at all for the current oldstable).

Bug#625441: zookeeper: ftbfs with gcc-4.6 -Werror

2011-05-03 Thread Matthias Klose
Package: zookeeper
Version: 3.3.1+dfsg1-2
Severity: important
Tags: wheezy sid
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-4.6 ftbfs-werror

This package builds with -Werror, and GCC 4.6 triggers new warnings
which will make the package fail to build. Currently a Debian patch
just passes
-Wno-error=unused-but-set-variable and
-Wno-error=unused-but-set-parameter
to avoid build failures, but this patch will be reverted with the
GCC 4.6.1 release, and the severity of the report will be raised.

The full build log can be found at:
http://people.debian.org/~doko/tmp/werror/zookeeper_3.3.1+dfsg1-2_lsid64.buildlog
The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

Bug#578378: sun-java6 packaging modifies files, which is not allowed by the license

2010-04-19 Thread Matthias Klose

Package: sun-java6
Version: 6.20-1
Severity: serious

# Commented for now because the license differs in the official distribution

Bug#537290: classpath-common, gcj-jdk: Conflicting file /usr/share/man/man1/gappletviewer.1.gz

2009-07-18 Thread Matthias Klose

reassign 537290 classpath-common
thanks

No, there's nothing wrong with gcj-jdk. It defines a conflict with the current
classpath-common. What needs to be done: update classpath to 0.98, build cacao
using the new classpath, then decide what to do with the tools which are both
built by gcj-jdk and classpath, if we want to avoid the conflict.
classpath/cacao should at least provide something like /usr/lib/jvm/
and provide alternatives as other JVM's do.

Maybe it is a help to provide a new cacao-source source package just building
the cacao-source binary package, which then is then used by classpath and
openjdk-6 to build the cacao runtime.

If nobody is interested in classpath, then we maybe should remove it.

classpath-common and gcj-jdk both have the file
/usr/share/man/man1/gappletviewer.1.gz. It seems gcj-jdk tried to "fix" the
issue using a versioned conflict with classpath-common; however, that makes
cacao's Build-Depends unsatisfiable as it Build-Depends on both classpath-
common and default-jdk-builddep (at least on !alpha).

Wouldn't it make sense to handle this as an alternative, since gcj uses
classpath libraries anyway?

Why do you want such a change? Both bug reports requested a downgrade
to Suggests.

the bug requested the suggestion, because the bug submitter didn't understand
the difference between these two packages. it's current practice/policy to have
such a recommendation for the corresponding -gcj package. if you want to have
this changed, please address this on the debian-java ML, and don't change it on

Bug#667215: jffi: ftbfs with GCC-4.7

2012-04-03 Thread Matthias Klose
Package: jffi
Version: 1.0.2-8
Severity: important
Tags: sid wheezy
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-4.7

The package fails to build in a test rebuild on at least amd64 with
gcc-4.7/g++-4.7, but succeeds to build with gcc-4.6/g++-4.6. The
severity of this report may be raised before the wheezy release.

[exec] cc: error: unrecognized command line option '-mimpure-text'

The full build log can be found at:
http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2012/03/29-clang-gcc47/unstable-gcc47/jffi_1.0.2-8_unstable-gcc47.log
The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

Some hints on fixing these issues can be found at
http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.7/porting_to.html

To build with GCC 4.7, either set CC=gcc-4.7 CXX=g++-4.7 explicitly,
or install the gcc, g++, gfortran, ... packages from experimental.

compiling HelloWorld fails:
[parsingHelloWorld.java - #1/1]
--
1. ERROR in HelloWorld.java
 (at line 1)
class HelloWorld {
^
The type java.lang.Object cannot be resolved. It is indirectly referenced from
required .class file\s
--
1 problem (1 error)

ecj-bootstrap does use gij to run the ecj.jar file, it finds
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.4.2-gcj-4.0-1.4.2.0/jre/lib/rt.jar (pointing to
libgcj-4.0.jar) only if java-gcj-compat is installed.

explicitely adding -bootclasspath /usr/share/java/libgcj-4.0.jar works
around that failure. Is this the right thing to do, or is the real
problem that ecj derives the bootclasspath implicitely from the
runtime used to run ecj?

Bug#358594: eclipse binary, desktop/menu things should be in eclipse-platform

2006-03-23 Thread Matthias Klose
Package: eclipse
Version: 3.1.2

Forwarded from https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/eclipse/+bug/35871

I have just installed eclipse-platform-gcj on dapper and I have no
/usr/bin/eclipse script anywhere on my system. It appears this is
supposed to be in the eclipse-platform-common package but it's not.

Even though it shouldn't be required, I tried installing the full
eclipse package and sure enough /usr/bin/eclipse was hiding
there. This is not a viable solution, however, as the eclipse package
additionally requires me to install:

ant-optional, eclipse-jdt, eclipse-jdt-common, eclipse-pde,
eclipse-pde-common, eclipse-source, junit

None of which I want to install. It seems that the core
eclipse-platform files like /usr/bin/eclipse should either be moved
back to eclipse-platform-common or the SDK files (and required
dependencies) should be moved back into the eclipse-sdk package as it
used to be.

Bug#362991: libswt3.1-gtk-java does not contain the swt.jar

2006-04-16 Thread Matthias Klose
Package: libswt3.1-gtk-java
Version: 3.1.2-1
Severity: grave

libswt3.1-gtk-java only holds the symlinks to the real files, which
are in eclipse-rcp.

$ ls -l /usr/lib/java
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 58 Apr 16 23:44 swt-3.1.jar ->

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 58 Apr 16 23:44 swt.jar ->
../eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86_3.1.1.jar

when moving the jar, a libswt3.1-gtk-java-gcj may be needed.

side note: The referenced jar does contain the lib*.so files as well
(duplicated in /usr/lib/jni).

severity 357301 normal
thanks

the justification given (renders package unusable) is
wrong. the bug submitter uses a runtime not included in Debian. the
package works fine using java-gcj-compat or sun-java5-bin.

Bug#381648: FTBFS on ia64 (among other archs)

2006-08-06 Thread Matthias Klose
Package: libgnome-java
Severity: serious

Currently gjdoc fails building the docs on ia64. Maybe that can be
tracked down to a gjdoc bug, but a workaround would be to split out a
libgnome-java-doc package and only build it once. The API
documentation really doesn't belong into the runtime package.

Side notes: All the gtk/gnome java binding packages need to be tracked
for all architectures. I.e. some of them need just to be requeued on
the buildd's (libgnome-java on sparc is one candidate).

  Matthias

Bug#477867: java-gnome: adjust build-dependency (gcj not built on alpha, arm, hppa and hurd-i386)

2008-04-25 Thread Matthias Klose
Package: java-gnome
Version: 4.0.6-1
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: gcj-bd

gij/gcj and java-gcj-compat are not available (anymore) on the following
architectures: alpha, arm, hppa and hurd-i386.

This package has been identified as a package which build-depends on
gcj or java-gcj-compat-dev and builds at least one architecture
dependent package, and is unbuildable in unstable. If this report is a
false positive, please close it.

All gcj related build dependencies have to restricted to these
architectures on which a java or java compatible development kit /
compiler is available, i.e.

  java-gcj-compat [!alpha !arm !hppa !hurd-i386]

As a second step please consider changing the java-gcj-compat-dev b-d
to default-jdk-builddep, making the package independent of a specific
implementation and depend on the jdk, which is most suitable for this
architecture. default-jdk-builddep will depend in addition on
java-gcj-compat-dev, even if the default jdk is another one (to allow
to compile byte-code to native code using dh_nativejava).

A package build-depending on default-jdk-builddep should use as
JAVA_HOME /usr/lib/jvm/default-java, or as path for the tools
/usr/lib/jvm/default-java/bin.

If the package builds just architecture dependent binaries which
contain only byte-code compiled to native code (packages which often
end with "-gcj"), then the architecture restrictions on the build
dependency may not be needed (however the package cannot be built
anymore on those archs). In this case make sure that the binary
packages get removed on these architectures.

Please check the influence of a package upload on ongoing transitions
before an upload.
