Source: node-expat
Version: 1.4.1-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

The automated build of node-expat on i386 (the only platform besides
amd64 for which its build dependencies are available) failed with a
test suite error:

I don't have time to dig too deeply, but see that the npm package
ships a package.json (under /usr/share/npm); a build dependency on
it may be in order. At any rate, could you please take a look?

Thanks!

The package evidently builds fine now.

Yes, this failure mode is gone, thanks. It looks like the armel and

[Pkg-javascript-devel] libv8 latest 3.8.9.20

2012-04-27 Thread Jérémy Lal
Hi,
i had to remove mipsel from supported architectures of libv8 3.8 branch,
because it doesn't support some cpu variant that is in mipsel.
Also thought it was best to benefit from latest upstream changes, hence
the version bump.

Jonas, could you upload it ?
Available as usual in collab-maint repository.

I'll prepare the 3.9 branch next week, hopefully supporting all mipsel
cpu variants.

Jérémy.

Indeed. Most likely a different bug, though.

Both build attempts occured in february. Since then 6 newer releases of
Nodejs have been released, some of which (if not all, when considering
the underlying changes to libv8) has ARM-specific changes.

I therefore suspect that a simple rebuild would be enough. I am not so
familiar with requesting those, so could you perhaps help out with that
now that we've gone off topic anyway ;-)

AFAICT, the build attempts occurred just a couple of weeks ago, using an
sbuild version from February.

I am on it now: Will start a build and then go to bed, and hopefully

Could I ask you to take a look at bug#650552 - I suspect it is Nodejs

[Pkg-javascript-devel] Node.js and it's future in debian

2012-04-27 Thread Carl Fürstenberg
Hello,

There has been an log struggle between the nodejs package and the node
package, which is still unresolved (bug #611698 for example) And I
wonder now what the future should look like.

To summarize the problem:
* the nodejs upstream binary is called "node", and the upstream
developers have refused to change it's binary name to nodejs for
debian;
* The the hamradio package "node" shipping a binary called "node", and
as it's so old, the developers argue that the package must ship a
binary called "node" or breakage will occur.
* The reason the nodejs developers want to ship the binary as "node"
is because all programs written for nodejs all has /usr/bin/node in
it's shebang
* the nodejs package are not allowed to conflict on the node package
just because the binary name is the same

As I'm not a hamradio user, I'm off course biased towards letting
nodejs having the "node" binary and let it pass to testing. But we
must find a solution to this, as nodejs is getting more and more used,
and developers are forced to install nodejs from source to be able to
use it instead of install it via the package manager.

Regards,

Carl Fürstenberg

[Pkg-javascript-devel] Bug#650343: nodejs: please provide "nodejs" command as a synonym for node

The message [1] reminded me that this still wasn't finished. Oops.
Sorry to be so slow.

After rereading [2], I am a little afraid of bringing this up upstream
without a patch. Unfortunately the build system scares me, too, so
for now all I can offer is a patch against the Debian packaging.

(Disclaimer: the following has nothing to do with Debian policy.) I
genuinely think the best thing Debian could do in wheezy is:

 - provide Node.js as /usr/bin/node

 - provide LinuxNode as /usr/sbin/node

 - also provide unambiguous names (e.g., nodejs, ax25-node) for these
commands, and use the unambiguous names in configuration and in
   other packages

I also hope that upstream can understand that we are not trying to
deny reality or to work against them but that it would be nice for
googlability among other reasons to move to less generic names for
these commands and avoid generic command names in the future.

The name /usr/bin/nodejs seems to have some cross-distro support.[3]

Thoughts? Improvements?

Thanks,
Jonathan
