[Pkg-javascript-devel] What tool is automating ITP reports?

2017-02-05 Thread Ben Finney
Howdy all,

Many recent ITP reports for Node.js packages have had terrible
descriptions. They seem to be just copied from the NPM package
description with no regard for the conventions of a Debian package
description.

ITPs should not be submitted automatically, they should be composed as
an individual's communication to the whole Debian Project. With bad
reports, the reputation of the submitter is tarnished, and the ability
of the Debian community to understand what people's intentions are is
harmed.

Is there some tool that people have been recommending that automates the
ITP composition and sending process? What is it, and how can we correct
it?

This is not written as a noun phrase describing the package. Also, there
is no longer description to give enough information to the reader.

When writing the ITP, you are communicating to the Debian Project.
Please take the time to write a proper package description. See the
Debian Developer's Reference, §6.2.1 – 6.2.3.

Please note that it is often a mistake to copy the text from the
upstream work. Write the description of the Debian package to meet
Debian's guidelines.

Ravishankar, please don't file any more ITPs unless you know the work
well enough to write a Debian package description for it. If you can't
write your own description of the work to explain it, you probably are
not ready to begin packaging it.

write-json-file is a dependency for this module which is not yet
packaged. You should package that first before this can be
uploaded. Also since you have an alioth account now, please
import the git repo there.

Package: python-matplotlib
Version: 2.0.0~rc2-1
Severity: important
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: broken-symlink adequate

Dear Maintainer,
Adequate reports broken symlink for python-matplotlib.

Adequate shows -

> adequate python-matplotlib

python-matplotlib: broken-symlink
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/matplotlib/backends/web_backend/jquery/css/themes/base/jquery-ui.min.css
->
../../../../../../../../../../share/javascript/jquery-ui/css/smoothness/jquery-ui.min.css

Now there are two problems with the symlink. One the path shown is
wrong. Apart from an images sub-directory there is no other directory
under
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/matplotlib/backends/web_backend/jquery/css/themes/base/
.

What it should have shared probably in the symlink, the path should
have been /usr/share/javascript/jquery-ui/css/smoothness/ but
unfortunately there is no ui.min.css even there.

/usr/share/javascript/jquery-ui/css/smoothness> ll -h

total 8.0K
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K 2016-11-10 16:06 .
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4.0K 2015-09-28 08:49 ..

Please fix the same.
