[Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#526886: kvirc website, upstream 3.4.2
Package: kvirc Version: 2:3.4.0-3 Severity: wishlist The Debian packages of kvirc have been stuck at 3.4.0 for a long time now. The most recent upstream release is 3.4.2 (which is also supposed to be the last kvirc release in the KDE/Qt 3 line). Another issue is the website. The package currently lists it as http://kvirc.net which has recently expired. http://www.kvirc.de still seems to be available. ___ pkg-kde-extras mailing list pkg-kde-extras@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-kde-extras

Re: [Pkg-kde-extras] library transition proposal exiv2/ libexiv2-5
+ Mark Purcell (Sun, 03 May 2009 18:17:17 +1000): Dato, Thanks for the green light. Have now uploaded libexiv2-5 to unstable and (almost) installed on all archs. BinNMU's required for rdepends against the obsolete libexiv2-4: Bin-NMUs scheduled. We have tools to calculate the list of packages to rebuild, so unless there's something particular to mention about any of them (don't Bin-NMU X because foo, or X and Y need a rebuild, but X depends on Y), you need not mention anything else than please schedule the Bin-NMUs. :-) Also there's no need to CC the affected packages, unless there's something the maintainers need to be aware of. + Bernd Zeimetz (Sun, 03 May 2009 12:01:53 +0200): merkaartor was uploaded yesterday late in the evening, so a binNMU is probably not necessary, at least not on all archs. Unfortunately I didn't see this mail before uploading it, otherwise I would have waited a bit to make sure it builds against the new exiv2 everywhere. bzed dato: btw I think it would make sense to set a depwait on libexiv2-5 for those arches where merkaartor is not yet built to make sure it builds in the right order Only powerpc had not built libexiv2-5 by the time you uploaded merkaartor. Fortunately, libexiv2-4 had been decrufted already, so the build on powerpc failed; I've given it back now. (Additionally, it's not very worrysome if an architecture builds your package against the old library; scheduling an addditional Bin-NMU is quite cheap.) [Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#526886: Future plans with kvirc.
Hello: Thank you very much for reporting this bug. Actually, kvirc latest stable version is 3.4.2 whereas either Lenny, testing and sid provides 3.4.0 with some changes from 3.4.2. The Lenny freeze happened before KVirc 3.4.2 was released but we still had the chance to take some fixes from KVirc before Lenny was released. Now KDE4 is already on sid we are focusing on having what will be released as KVirc 4 in the archive soon. We think that it's worthwhile focusing on KVirc4. Regarding the KVirc homepage, well it's true that http://www.kvirc.net has had major downtime, but it's not decided yet wether it will stop being the official homepage . Chances are that it will be moved to http://www.kvirc.de Sure this issue will be fixed on next debian KVirc package. Currently both webs are working.
