Chris,

Please proceed with the Debian LTS team.

I don't think we are actively maintaining exiv2.

2016-11-01 Thread Mark Purcell
Hi Maximiliano,

Very happy for this package to remain with kde-extras, I personally don't
have time to maintain it.

Hope it can get some love soon.

2014-01-17 Thread Mark Purcell
Pino,

Sorry I seem to uploaded digikam mid way through your updates.

I think svn is sane again now, with your residual changes listed under -2,
awaiting release.

I must also say thanks for your updates as they are making digikam a very good
Debian package.

Thanks Matthias,

I prefer to fix via
dh $@ --with autotools_dev

Which should also work for any future archs.

Is that OK from your perspective?

I'll include with the next upload.

Rainer,

I see you have also filed a report with upstream, so have noted the Debian bug
as forwarded.

There has been very little change between your upgraded versions (3.4 -> 3.5),
as this was a maintenance release, I believe 5 bugs were fixed:
https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?f1=cf_versionfixedin&o1=equals&query_format=advanced&bug_status=RESOLVED&bug_status=NEEDSINFO&bug_status=VERIFIED&bug_status=CLOSED&v1=3.5.0&product=digikam&product=digikamimageplugins&product=kipiplugins&product=showfoto

There have also been no other reports of albums disappearing, although 3.5 has
been available since 10 October, so I have set the severity of your report to
important.

I would imagine it has to do with the location of your digikam4.db file, is
that located in your Pictures directory and have you changed this? I would
recommend you check the quality of these databases, especially your backup
before you used digikam/3.5:
http://userbase.kde.org/Digikam/Check_Database

Your tags can also be located in digikam4.db, unless you choose to store them
in each picture file.

I'll let the digikam team provide you some further assistance via 327337.

Could you please provide some more details?

Did you upgrade digikam only, if so from what version to 3.5.0?

Did you upgrade KDE SC at the same time, if so from what version?

Have you restarted KDE since the upgrade? We have a persistent issue with
shared libs not being available until KDE is restarted.

Eric,

The plan at this stage is that wheezy will release with digikam/2.6 to meet
with the requirements of the Wheezy Freeze Policy:
http://release.debian.org/wheezy/freeze_policy.html

Once wheezy is released I will upload digikam/2.9 to sid.

Digikam/3.0 will be uploaded to sid once kdegraphics/4.10 is available in sid.
Until that time experimental will continue to track digikam/3.0 with Conflicts.

Eric,

I seem to be unable to email you directly, all email returns with a 550 error,
so I will continue to utilise the BTS.

digikam/experimental is installable now (see below), but it does conflict with
kdegraphics/unstable. It installs fine and is a fully usable package (contary
to your assertions), and some users wish to utilise the latest upstream
release, which is why I have uploaded to experimental.

However, you are correct that this is not an acceptable long terms solution
and is a release critical bug and should not be brought into unstable, hence
why it is uploaded to experimental. Upstream has a peculiar approach where
they start utilising newer components of kdegraphics. Again you are correct
this is not the debian way and is not a sensible approach to packaging. We
also had exactly the same issue with the release of digikam/2.0 which was
using unreleased features from kdegraphics/4.7. The workaround we used then,
and are using now is to make the bleeding edge package available via
experimenal, whilst maintaining the fully compatible package via unstable.

So debian users have a number of choices:

1. Bleeding edge digikam/3.0. In which case they can install via
experimental but cannot utilise kdegraphics/4.8.

2. Integrated digikam/2.6 kdegraphics/4.8. In which case they can install
from unstable/ testing and shortly stable.. Once stable is released I will
likley release digikam/2.9 to unstable/testing.

3. Roll their own.

I think this is a perfectly reasonable approach, which I understand you are
not happy with. However I would refer you to the headline for experimental
packages:

http://packages.debian.org/experimental/digikam

Package: digikam (4:3.0.0~beta1a-1)

Warning: This package is from the experimental distribution. That means
it is likely unstable or buggy, and it may even cause data loss. Please
be sure to consult the changelog and other possible documentation before
using it.

I am happy to upload to unstable, once audiofile is uploaded.

Or I am happy for other suggestions for the best way to transition together.

[Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#628019: Digikam 2.2

Hi Martin,

digikam 2.2 depends on elements from KDE SC 4.7, which isn't in Debian
yet.

That said upstream have included the relevant KDE SC 4.7 libs in the
build.

It is messy and will conflict with some elements of sid, but I have,

Thanks Ritesh,

I have updated the svn archive but we have some issues with releasing,
although I suppose we could to experimental, but it would be broken...

Unfortunately digikam is shipping lots of upstream libraries which then
turns into file conflicts between packages:
http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/digikam-devel/2011-July/052493.html

You can track the work in svn here:
http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/pkg-kde/kde-extras/digikam/trunk/debian/

Or even build directly from svn with the `debcheckout` command.

[Pkg-kde-extras] digikam 2.0.0 packaging for distributions

2011-07-02 Thread Mark Purcell
Hi,

I'm the digikam packager for Debian GNU/Linux.

I have noticed that the 2.0.0 .tar.bz2 archive from sf.net is now
including a lot of extras that were distributed separately:

docs/{kipi-plugins,digikam} will these continue to ship with the apps?

extras/kipi-plugins was previous a separate tar archive
extras/libkdcrawis also distributed with kdegraphics
extras/libkexiv2is also distributed with kdegraphics
extras/libkface is unique to digikam archive
extras/libkipi is also distributed with kdegraphics
extras/libkmap is unique to digikam archive
extras/libksane is also distributed with kdegraphics
extras/libmediawiki is unique to digikam archive

I can work around, but need to know if this is the plan for 2.0.0 final?

However, having the same libs released in the digikam archive and the
KDE SC kdegraphics archive is problematic for distributions. Especially
as some are at the same soname libkipi.so.8, whilst others have
different interfaces KDE SC 4.6 kdegraphics ships libkexiv2.so.9, whilst
digikam 2.0.0 is shipping libkexiv2.so.10.

kmymoney 4.5 does not FTFBS:

Thus the severity is not series.

I agree that kmymoney should be built with aqbanking5, however this is an

I also suspect the patches to build against aqbanking5 should be forwarded

This is a pain as we have turned on the check tests target in -2, and it is

rather the stress of the tests. I have forwarded to google to see if they have

Thanks for the update.

We will have to forward your report upstream as without your hardware it is
almost impossible to debug remotely.

Could I ask you to forward the details returned from:

Thanks for your report, this is an upstream issue as there is little Debian can

The Debian team values users reports, but we are busy, and so we
kindly ask you to access the upstream support facilities:

There is a user mailing list which maybe used to get support:
http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/k3b-user

To post a message to all the list members, send email to

If you know that the bug you want to report is in the "upstream"
code then please check/ file against the KDE Bug tracking system:
https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=k3b

You can also report bugs directly upstream using the K3b Help:Report Bug
menu entry.

If you feel that the bug is one that other Debian users should
know about then you are welcome to file a report in the Debian BTS
as well. Please keep in mind, however, that managing bug reports
is part of the maintainers' workload.

As a minimum we ask that you Cc: k3b-u...@lists.sourceforge.net any

Sorry to muck you around so much Jason.

It appears that some versions of geeqie were built against the broken version
of exiv2/0.19-2.

geeqie/1:1.0-4 is correctly forced to ignore exiv2/0.19-2 and depends on
exiv2/0.19-3.

So to clean up your system you should install geeqie/1:1.0-4 & exiv2/0.19-3,
and remove exiv2/0.20 from experimental.

Michael,

I am pursuing through debian-release clearance to upload exiv2 0.20 to
unstable. This will enable libkexiv2 4.4, digikam 1.2, gwenview, ... to be
built with the Nikon fix.

This isn't tied to KDE SC 4.5.

No problem.

I have uploaded exiv2 0.19-3 which reverts the Nikon patch from upstream.

It appears that we do require the rebuild of all libs for the Nikon fix
(ie 0.20) and can't just sneak it on the back of 0.19.

Michael,

The two are not necessarily related; digikam new version and exiv2 fix.

I have requested approval to upload exiv2 0.20 to unstable, which would fix
the Nikon regression:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2010/06/msg00070.html

While I am waiting, I may just backport the Nikon fix to exiv 0.19 and upload
to unstable.

Either exiv2 uploads will work with digikam 1.2 or 1.3.

The upload of digikam 1.3 is a little more problematic, it appears that digikam
1.3 will need to await the release of KDE SC 4.5, which I doubt will make it
for squeeze.

Sorry I don't agree that is sustainable at all.

Pulling from trunk is verging on negligence for a distribution. How does
Mandriva know when trunk is stable? Do they continue to patch until trunk is
released? Sounds like an awful lot of work bypassing the upstream release
process.

If upstream have decided that work on a library is work in progress, ie they
haven't released. Then why would/ should a distribution take on that risk.

If libkdcraw and libkexiv2 are ready for release, but the rest of kdegraphics
isn't then it is time to break them back out again, or accept the inherent
delay by being a component of the larger kdegraphics release cycle.

Gilles,

Unfortunately for a distribution such as Debian we are tied to releases of the
kdegraphics module. We can't easily include the svn trunk components of some
of kdegraphics :-(

> all library code are managed by digiKam team.

The libraries maybe managed by the digikam team, but the release is controlled
by the kdegraphics release, do you know which release the updates are slated
for?

I would doubt that KDE SC 4.4.5 will include large changes, which means we
maybe awaiting KDE SC 4.5 for updates to these libs.

Previously when the digikam team released these libraries directly, we could
update the library packaging independent of the upstream kdegraphics release,
however we cannot do that anymore.

I presume that other distributions would also have the same issues?

[Pkg-kde-extras] kbluetooth time for unstable?

2010-05-05 Thread Mark Purcell

Michael,

The consensus IIRC this morning is that kbluetooth is ready for unstable:

[Thursday 06 May 2010] [07:26:03] mbiebl:fabo:gkiagia: yes kbluetooth was
too buggy. but it is about time we reviewed again. I have become more ruthless
about
removing KDE3 comonents from kde-extras
[Thursday 06 May 2010] [07:26:50] pos: one of the reasons why I want
to get rid of the old kdebluetooth package is, that it is the only remaining on
[Thursday 06 May 2010] [07:26:58] depending on libdbus-qt-1
[Thursday 06 May 2010] [07:27:36] pos: I'd love to kick that before
squeeze
[Thursday 06 May 2010] [07:29:28] pos: mbiebl: the kde3 version of
kdebluetooth doesn't work at all with the new bluez (it's been like that for
months)
and should be removed anyway
[Thursday 06 May 2010] [07:31:00] gkiagia, pos: Should I file RM then?
[Thursday 06 May 2010] [07:33:01] gkiagia, pos: and we upload the one
from experimental to unstable as soon as you feel comfortable with it
[Thursday 06 May 2010] [07:33:34] mbiebl: and for squeeze i would
really like to see sqlite.

This email is to get your reaction before we start migrating from experimental
-> unstable

Michael,

Thanks for hunting this issue down.

You don't need to close the digikam issue, as we can link one bug as blocking
another issue and this will show up in digikam. Anyway I have now flagged
this report as affecting digikam, so it will show up in the Debian digikam bug
list.

I did a bit of work with the same issue earlier and Forwarded upstream here:
http://dev.exiv2.org/issues/show/677

I am a little hesitant to pull trunk into Debian as we don't know what it does
and doesn't fix and trunk is generally more unstable.

Andreas was talking about releasing 0.20 earlier and I would prefer to await
an upstream release instead of pulling single patches from upstream.

Andreas. Any ETA on 0.20?

Just a comment for anyone listening, the kmymoney is making good progress and
I would anticipate it will be ready for release with lenny.

2010-04-14 Thread Mark Purcell
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

There are currently two kmymoney src packages in the archive:

1. The obsolete KDE3 src:kmymoney2 (3.95.0+svn1069391-2) package which is the
subject of this removal request.
This src package also is the only source of kmymoney2-common and kmymoney2-dev
binary packages.

2. The current KDE4 src;kmymoney (3.97.2-1) package which _should not_ be
removed from the archive.
This second package has a dummy transition package kmymoney2, to smooth
upgrades from the first package.

Helge,

Sorry to hear that digikam isn't working too well for you.

First thing I would recommend is to backup your existing albums as is to DVD or
some other high density storage.

There is a re-read meta data from images option, which can be used to get your
database back into sync, available under the Albums menu.

I would also recommend you check your Collections Settings, under the configure
digikam menu.

I would also recommend you check with upstream support as they maywell have
some better advice:

I have added a get-orig-source target to debian/rules, so we can just download

I'm not a huge fan of m.d.n, if it is in svn.d.o, then that is a lot better, as
I can make quick changes like get-orig-source easily.

Thanks Fathi,

The PTS [1] still lists Subversion as the VCS, probably because it doesn't take
into account uploads to experimental. I did find the git repo after seeing
that
0.4~rc was in experimental, but not anywhere in svn.

When a package switches from svn to git should we mark this somehow in svn?

Delete svn/trunk? Leave a README in svn/trunk pointing to the git repo??

Again both kipi-plugins and konqueror should also be upgraded to the most

[Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#562944: kmymoney depends on libkleo

2009-12-29 Thread Mark Purcell
Hi KDE-PIM,

I see with today's announcement that kmymoney now depends on libkleo
development headers for the build:
http://www.kdenews.org/2009/12/28/first-kmymoney-beta-version-available-kde-4-
platform

The problem for me, packaging kmymoney for Debian, is that libkleo isn't
shipped in the external libraries kdepimlibs package, but rather an internal
library in the kdepim package.

What do the kde-pim team recommend in this situation?

Is it possible to move libkleo into the public libraries, kdepimlibs?

I see in the kdepimlibs/PLAN that kleo is listed as done:
Done

akonadi
gpgme++
kblog
kcal
kholidays
kimap
kleo (GPL)
kmime
kpimidentities
ktnef
mailtransport
qgpgme
syndication

But kleo doesn't appear to of migrated.

Could I ask any replies to maintain the (Cc:) to keep the interested parties
informed. Thanks.

Luka,

One change that I will reverse from your packaging is the removal of dolphin
from Recommends:

Without dolphin, digikam produces the attached error message when one envokes
the "Album:Open in File Manager", which is why it was included as a
Recommends:

Please note that a Recommends: is not absolute:

Recommends
This declares a strong, but not absolute, dependency.
The Recommends field should list packages that would be found together with
this one in all but unusual installations.

If non-kde users do not want to install dolphin, then with a Recommends: they
don't have too.

However this has been an issue in the past and led to real usability problems:
http://bugs.debian.org:80/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=440250

This has also been discussed on the kde bug tracking:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=185638#c5

If you are going to undo our previous packaging work, please discuss here
first.

Thanks,

In my case I had an issue with FD 7 not being opened which led me to nepomuk.

Yes I can confirm:

and I forwarded upstream:

I think I have been seeing this behaviour in other apps as well, enabling some
of the plasma active wallpapers also seems to be pushing my CPU to 100%. :-(

Valerio,

Thanks for your interest in digikam-doc in Debian.

Unfortunately there is very little we can do from a Debian perspective as
upstream have not yet updated the documentation suite for digikam.

http://www.digikam.org/drupal/docs
http://sourceforge.net/projects/digikam/files/

Rest assured that once upstream do release, the Debian package will be updated.

Jim,

I am not seeing that problem here, digikam is displaying all photos for me. :-(

I see you are using a mixed KDE4 environment with packages from version

Excellent.

What about the remaining two in debian.svn.org?
90-lensfun-db-update-rel-to-svn65.dpatch
91-lensfun-db-update-svn65-to-pmjdebruijn.dpatch

They don't apply cleanly to 0.2.4.

Yes. Have a look at the Debian library packing guide:
http://www.netfort.gr.jp/~dancer/column/libpkg-guide/libpkg-guide.html

My understanding is that the symbols file only details the first version that
specific symbols appear. Thus the correct answer is to leave the symbols file
at 0.2.3.

I don't think you need to change the rules file as 0.2.3 and 0.2.4 are binary
compatible, ie you can leave it at 0.2.3.

I am happy with the dates and if hgsubversion can work then everyone can be
