Pino, Sorry I seem to uploaded digikam mid way through your updates. I think svn is sane again now, with your residual changes listed under -2, awaiting release. I must also say thanks for your updates as they are making digikam a very good Debian package. There has been very little change between your upgraded versions (3.4 -> 3.5), as this was a maintenance release, I believe 5 bugs were fixed: https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?f1=cf_versionfixedin&o1=equals&query_format=advanced&bug_status=RESOLVED&bug_status=NEEDSINFO&bug_status=VERIFIED&bug_status=CLOSED&v1=3.5.0&product=digikam&product=digikamimageplugins&product=kipiplugins&product=showfoto There have also been no other reports of albums disappearing, although 3.5 has been available since 10 October, so I have set the severity of your report to important. I would imagine it has to do with the location of your digikam4.db file, is that located in your Pictures directory and have you changed this? I would recommend you check the quality of these databases, especially your backup before you used digikam/3.5: http://userbase.kde.org/Digikam/Check_Database Your tags can also be located in digikam4.db, unless you choose to store them in each picture file. It installs fine and is a fully usable package (contary to your assertions), and some users wish to utilise the latest upstream release, which is why I have uploaded to experimental. However, you are correct that this is not an acceptable long terms solution and is a release critical bug and should not be brought into unstable, hence why it is uploaded to experimental. Upstream has a peculiar approach where they start utilising newer components of kdegraphics. Again you are correct this is not the debian way and is not a sensible approach to packaging. We also had exactly the same issue with the release of digikam/2.0 which was using unreleased features from kdegraphics/4.7. The workaround we used then, and are using now is to make the bleeding edge package available via experimenal, whilst maintaining the fully compatible package via unstable. So debian users have a number of choices: 1. Bleeding edge digikam/3.0. In which case they can install via experimental but cannot utilise kdegraphics/4.8. 2. Integrated digikam/2.6 kdegraphics/4.8. In which case they can install from unstable/ testing and shortly stable.. Once stable is released I will likley release digikam/2.9 to unstable/testing. 3. Roll their own. I think this is a perfectly reasonable approach, which I understand you are not happy with. However I would refer you to the headline for experimental packages: http://packages.debian.org/experimental/digikam Package: digikam (4:3.0.0~beta1a-1) Warning: This package is from the experimental distribution. That means it is likely unstable or buggy, and it may even cause data loss. Please be sure to consult the changelog and other possible documentation before using it. Re: [Pkg-kde-extras] #655074 transition audiofile - kwave fixed in experimental
Alessio, Upstream have released a new version of kwave which depends on the new upstream for audiofile. I have uploaded to experimental, and thus should be ready for transition to unstable. I am happy to upload to unstable, once audiofile is uploaded. Or I am happy for other suggestions for the best way to transition together. On Wed, 2011-10-05 at 12:14 +0200, Martin Steigerwald wrote: > What are your plans regarding upgrade of digikam package? > > I´d love to use Digikam 2.2 ;) Hi Martin, digikam 2.2 depends on elements from KDE SC 4.7, which isn't in Debian yet. That said upstream have included the relevant KDE SC 4.7 libs in the build. It is messy and will conflict with some elements of sid, but I have, just, uploaded to experimental. Thanks Ritesh, I have updated the svn archive but we have some issues with releasing, although I suppose we could to experimental, but it would be broken... Unfortunately digikam is shipping lots of upstream libraries which then turns into file conflicts between packages: http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/digikam-devel/2011-July/052493.html You can track the work in svn here: http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/pkg-kde/kde-extras/digikam/trunk/debian/ Or even build directly from svn with the `debcheckout` command. [Pkg-kde-extras] digikam 2.0.0 packaging for distributions
Hi, I'm the digikam packager for Debian GNU/Linux. I have noticed that the 2.0.0 .tar.bz2 archive from sf.net is now including a lot of extras that were distributed separately: docs/{kipi-plugins,digikam} will these continue to ship with the apps? extras/kipi-plugins was previous a separate tar archive extras/libkdcrawis also distributed with kdegraphics extras/libkexiv2is also distributed with kdegraphics extras/libkface is unique to digikam archive extras/libkipi is also distributed with kdegraphics extras/libkmap is unique to digikam archive extras/libksane is also distributed with kdegraphics extras/libmediawiki is unique to digikam archive I can work around, but need to know if this is the plan for 2.0.0 final? However, having the same libs released in the digikam archive and the KDE SC kdegraphics archive is problematic for distributions. Especially as some are at the same soname libkipi.so.8, whilst others have different interfaces KDE SC 4.6 kdegraphics ships libkexiv2.so.9, whilst digikam 2.0.0 is shipping libkexiv2.so.10. It would be really nice to have a > workable digikam back again... ;-) Michael, The two are not necessarily related; digikam new version and exiv2 fix. I have requested approval to upload exiv2 0.20 to unstable, which would fix the Nikon regression: http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2010/06/msg00070.html While I am waiting, I may just backport the Nikon fix to exiv 0.19 and upload to unstable. Either exiv2 uploads will work with digikam 1.2 or 1.3. The upload of digikam 1.3 is a little more problematic, it appears that digikam 1.3 will need to await the release of KDE SC 4.5, which I doubt will make it for squeeze. > > I presume that other distributions would also have the same issues? > > I know that Mandriva include kdegraphics/libs from trunk as well... Sorry I don't agree that is sustainable at all. Pulling from trunk is verging on negligence for a distribution. How does Mandriva know when trunk is stable? Do they continue to patch until trunk is released? Sounds like an awful lot of work bypassing the upstream release process. If upstream have decided that work on a library is work in progress, ie they haven't released. Then why would/ should a distribution take on that risk. If libkdcraw and libkexiv2 are ready for release, but the rest of kdegraphics isn't then it is time to break them back out again, or accept the inherent delay by being a component of the larger kdegraphics release cycle. We can't easily include the svn trunk components of some of kdegraphics :-( > all library code are managed by digiKam team. The libraries maybe managed by the digikam team, but the release is controlled by the kdegraphics release, do you know which release the updates are slated for? I would doubt that KDE SC 4.4.5 will include large changes, which means we maybe awaiting KDE SC 4.5 for updates to these libs. Previously when the digikam team released these libraries directly, we could update the library packaging independent of the upstream kdegraphics release, however we cannot do that anymore. Hi KDE-PIM, I see with today's announcement that kmymoney now depends on libkleo development headers for the build: http://www.kdenews.org/2009/12/28/first-kmymoney-beta-version-available-kde-4- platform The problem for me, packaging kmymoney for Debian, is that libkleo isn't shipped in the external libraries kdepimlibs package, but rather an internal library in the kdepim package.
