[Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#629944: kvpnc: probably not using it the right way.
Hello: Regarding the bug you reported, I think that you used kvpnc the wrong way. It looks it needs root permissions, but just doing "su" and running it from a console will fail due to a number of reasons unless you are aware of the implications of doing so. In my humble opinion, you should stick to giving root password to kvpnc or using an alternative method for running it as root. Having said all this, I would say this is not really a bug. If you agree with me feel free to comment it out and eventually send an email to 629...@bugs.debian.org in order to close this bug. [Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#693742: More information.
Hello: Thank you for using KVIrc and reporting us that bug. What was the latest version of KVIrc that you can remember that feature was available? According KVIrc developers, that feature was harcoded in a somewhat old version of KVIrc. Nowadays, the function is scriptable, so you may want to restore the default scripts. There is still a similar option if you do right mouse button on the network name, in the window list. The option name is "close all queries". In order to restore the default scripts, go to "Scripting" menu and then choose "Restore default script". This operation may overwrite some of your settings, so make sure you won't loose anything you want to keep. If the still available option satisfies you or reverting to default script helps, let us know. As I tagged, upload is still pending and has been delayed due to upstream intention to make a release /soonish/. We are planning to get this uploaded before the freeze. If upstream is unable to release in a reasonable time, we'll upload a current snapshot (like we have usually done) that includes the hardening flags. Hello: I also want through this issue with gtk-qt-engine-kde4. I somehow workaround it without the need to install vim-gnome. After some time, I installed gtk2-engines-oxygen and wanted to try it, I did. After installing it, in the "gtk styles and fonts" KDE system settings dialog, I chose "Use KDE style in gtk applications." Most gtk applications used the KDE style, but vim-gtk stopped working again. I then chose "Use another style" option in that dialog, either oxygen-gtk or qtcurve worked. So I guess the problem doesn't really come from the gtk style, but from the way KDE styles overlays gtk. This looks like an upstream problem. Unfortunately the information you provide is not enough to file a new bug report against KVIrc [1]. It looks like an infinite loop starving machine resources. However you can provide more information answering these questions: · When do you experience the problem? · Do you have any automatic connection to servers on startup? · Could you try moving the KVIrc config dir which is usually ~/.kvirc or ~/.config/kvirc elsewhere and retry? Whereever it works or not you can safely remove the newly created dir an move the old back to the original place, restoring your usual configuration. · Depending on your knowledge, could you try installing kvirc-dbg package, starting kvirc and then getting a backtrace of the loop. tags 534291 +fixed notfound 534291 4:4.0.0~svn3240-1 fixed 534291 4:4.0.0~svn3240-1 thanks Hello Francesco: Thank you very much for reporting this bug. We would need a definite confirmation but it's quite likely that the problem is as Kai explained: new dpkg versions fixed a bug that in turn uncovered a bug in the kvirc-data package we, unfortunately, overlooked for Lenny. The final check would be installing sid version 4:4.0.0~svn3240-1 which we think solves the problem. So we will consider this bug is fixed in sid, but we will keep it open because of it implications. Due to this, kvirc can't be installed on testing. The natural solution for this would be waiting for some days tilll sid version reaches testing, but unluckily the transition is being locked by krb5 package right now. We will research how to soothe this, since there are methods to address the issue, like testing-proposed-updates queue. Problem with this kind of methods is that they are quite intrusive as regards to the Debian natural package processing and should be done very carefully and counting with some people like Release Manager that is usually very busy doing more important stuff. To sum up: bug should be fixed in sid (or report otherwise), we consider this fixed as well, due to its severity we will look if a temporary solution for testing is possible. I think you deserve some explanation as why mercurial. Reason is quite simple: curiosity. I wanted something that allowed me working offline on this, and since I didn't like much of git insanity I decided to go with mercurial. However I did want to keep followable work somewhere and I soon relied on hgsubversion which is a mercurial extension that acts as a frontend to SVN. Even hgsubversion was experimental it worked quite well, till ABI with current released mercurial version broke. I then hold the svn updates and started working with pure mercurial and that's when Kai went in. I've never considered dropping SVN updates just that I didn't devote the time to fix hgsubversion. hgsubversion is planned to be fixed for July, when Mercurial 1.3 will be released after that, the extension will be more stable and maintained for the stable mercurial release as well. If you are not happy with this dates I can manage to get some fixes before. because I think it is very important that people can keep up to date with what happens with development in an easy way. Anyway, I think packaging is in a pretty good shape, with the help of Kai, for sure, so I doubt it will be needed to do much work until real kvirc 4.0.0 is actually released. There's no formal date for this, upstream says soon, but can't confirm. We will be trying to improve package with what the TODO.Debian file states, but this has low priority by now, IMHO. > > Again this isn't a comment on the pros and cons of a DVCS such as Hg, but > rather what we know and are familar with working with. I didn't thought of anything like the kde- extras README which I hadn't dive before. I think the documentation there is way helpful and we can manage to create a similar file on the mercurial kde- extras repo. I think this step and keeping svn in sync with what happens on mercurial repo could fulfil the problems so far, with maybe some minor glitches which will eventually disappear when we take a further decision like dropping svn, mercurial or we move to git :D Mentioning git is partly a joke if it weren't for it's increasing usage in the Debian project. I'm familiar with git, but I prefer mercurial. And this is no enforcement, but preference that, as you can see above, I'm flexible with. Now about the Kai's mail and Mark's reply. As Kai and me have been talking on IRC, the filelist.txt problem is upstream, since an out-of-tree build system shouldn't place files into the source tree. We will discuss this upstream. I don't really know how you end up with those files, I don't even think it's important to tackle this unless you are curios, in that case I'm sure Kai could shed some light. Quite probably using a clean/kvirc:: target could workaround the issue acceptably. Regarding hg-buildpackage, yes, we all would like that would work, but it is not likely developed anymore, maintained by Debian QA Team, removed from testing and stable, crammed

Hello: Thanks for reporting the bug. I've investigated the issue, and it turns that xterm usage is hardcoded into a convenience script which is easily user configurable. Just go Scripting->Edit popups->hostpopup in the traceroute option you'll find something like: if("$system.ostype" == "unix")run xterm -e /bin/sh -c "echo \"Traceroute to $0...\" && traceroute $0 && cat" else run tracert $0 just change that xterm invocation for the terminal emulator you want. Hello Bethany: Thank you very much for your bug reporting. I've performed some checks and even you are using Etch version which is somewhat broken, it seems this minor bug is also present on current testing, future Lenny version, 1.0-2 Unfortunately this is just a minor bug, so it won't be fixed for either Etch nor Lenny. The reason is that Etch is already released and only severe or grave bugs can be addressed when a Debian version is released. Hello All: Jan, thanks a lot for this bug report. Indeed the problem is present in 3.4.0 but not in 3.4.2. Unfortunately, 3.4.2 was not released in time to include it into Lenny. A fix was applied meanwhile: https://svn.kvirc.de/kvirc/changeset/1997 fixing a bug, https://svn.kvirc.de/kvirc/ticket/97 which apparently was a different problem and wasn't tagged as too serious. Anyway, this bug just applies in the case that kvirc would be the default irc handler. So far, I think this is not the case in Debian, possible due to another bug. Hello All: You filed a bug report against kvirc Debian package which you can review at: http://bugs.debian.org/384874 We are very sorry not having answer you in such a long time. Unfortunately, resources devoted to this package have been shown insufficient and we hope that the situation improve now on. Debian has recently provided a new release of kvirc, kvirc 3.4.0 which is available in unstable and will shortly be present in lenny/testing as well. This bug report was opened some time ago and is reasonable that this new version solved the bug. We would appreciate you testing the new version and report back if the bug has been definitely solved or not in order to close this report or take further actions. Please, help us with your feedback. If we don't have any news from you in 30 days, we would consider that you accept that the bug can be closed because either it is solved or you are unable to reproduce it. Even if it is closed, you can reopen it any time if you think the problem is still present.
