Bug#579925: mplayer: built without gui support
On Sun, May 02, 2010 at 13:13:15 (CEST), Sven Joachim wrote: Shouldn't such an important change as dropping the gui be at least announced in NEWS.Debian to give the chance to bail out from the upgrade? Bug#579938: [vlc-plugin-jack] Disconnects between tracks/songs
On Sun, May 02, 2010 at 06:01:09PM +0300, David Baron wrote: I need to connect vlc###-system in the qjackctl connection pane to hear music. At each track playing an audio-CD, for example, it disconnects and I need to reconnect to hear music. Not a desirable behavior! Shouldn't it be sufficient to go to the preference menu, select Show all settings, then choose Audio/Output modules/JACK and say connect to clients matching with or without automatically connect to writable clients? This, once found, works just fine! No need to touch qjackctl at all. Glad it worked. ;) Question is: what should be the default mode when jackd is found running on program start (which would busy up alsa)? I think it should simply play. At worst, auto-connect should be in the simple options and default checked. I expected this proposal, and I think it's wrong. The point is: jack is not a tool for ordinary desktop users but targeted at professional music production. Jack is not supposed to run as a desktop sound server, this is what pulseaudio is for. Consequently, there is no sensible default where to connect. Physical outs? Or some FX-chain in advance? Or no connection at all, because the output will be fed to a streaming server? And BTW: a running jackd doesn't imply that ALSA is busy. Normally, there is a dedicated (separate) professional audio card in a jackd setup that's connected to the studio. And if you run jackd in dummy mode, no soundcard at all would be occupied. BTW: Unless you really need to separate the vlc outputs from all other system outputs, I recommend using the pulseaudio audio plugin instead and then use pulseaudio-module-jack to bridge to jackd. This way, your connections are always on, no need to mess with qjackctl at all. ;) I wish pulse was up to snuff but it is just too troublesome. Someday. You think so? I claim that's FUD. If something isn't working, file a bug report against pulseaudio or the application in question. To me, it works like a charm, vlc, skype, flash, mplayer and the lot all outputting to pulseaudio which then feeds everything to jackd. Way more stable than the libasound2-jackd-alsa bridge. And make sure to try the DBUS interface support in current qjackctl. (setup/Misc-tab). This might be especially useful in your single card setup: with DBUS support, jackd2 (then jackdbus) talks to pulseaudio, and pulseaudio will release the soundcard, so jackd can be started. In other words, pulseaudio and jackd hand over the card to each other. No need to look for and shutdown all the apps that prevent jackd from starting. You should really give it a whirl. I never want to go back. -- mail: a...@thur.de http://adi.thur.de PGP/GPG: key via keyserver ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

Hello, Imported Upstream version 0.1.7 As you'll see from the other commits, it brings a SONAME change. to make things even more interresting the name of the source package and the name of the -dev package have changed. (Both to remove the soname from it). So it will need to go through NEW. Both vlc and dvblast build-depends on: libdvbpsi5-dev | libdvbpsi-dev already. That's the only packages depending on libdvbpsi on Debian. Could someone check on Ubuntu ? So we can safely upload to sid. But until we revert the order pbuilder won't pick the new libdvbpsi if it has the choice of the old and new. I'm trying to confirm with upstream but there is no major new features or bugfixes. It's more a collection of small stuffs over the last 2 years. So there is no rush. So I propose to upload to sid rather than experimental and invert the order (libdvbpsi-dev | libdvbpsi5-dev) at the next upload of dvblast and vlc. For vlc it will be vlc 1.1.0(-rc) hopefully in a fortnight. Opinions ? -- Xtophe ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers
zynjacku git repository
This repository is still looking funny. The upstream branch contains the debian/ directory, and the debian/5.2-1 tag is applied to the upstream branch (and there is no zynjacku in debian yet). Jaromir, how did you create the git repository? I think you used a wrong tarball for the upstream import. -- Saludos, Felipe Sateler ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

Re: Bug#579464: Fixed upstream
On Sat, May 01, 2010 at 09:29:08PM +0200, Jonas Smedegaard wrote: If you haven't started yet, I could invest one or two hours updating to latest svn. This fixes almost all issues. I can also do the upload (DM), just let me know. Please do! Done. This was harder than expected. First, it took me some time to understand quilt. I must admit it has some nice features, especially quilt fold was useful. (if somebody could tell me how to get rid of all these modified files after git-buildpackage...) Well, then, the atomic patch was wrong. I have a sparc64 machine and was able to correct it before uploading. Then, there was a second error breaking atomic operations on powerpc. Good that I also have a powerpc machine (PlayStation3 and IBM QS21 CellBlade) to fix this. ;) Finally, the code calls get_cycles() which is more or less hand-written assembler on the well-known targets. And it's missing everywhere else, so I hacked a dummy function. After four hours, I now have a working x86, powerpc and sparc version. Hope the other exotic platforms (kfreebsd, mips, arm, s390) can successfully use my fallbacks. In addition, the session revealed a bug in FFADO on powerpc. A script for keeping git up to date
The number of repositories in the git area has been growing. So I created a script to easily keep them uptodate, so that random checks on different packages become easier. Preconditions for running the script: 1. You do NOT have any unpushed work in the master, upstream or pristine-tar branches of any repository. 2. You actually want to have all pkg-multimedia repositories updated (and created if non existent) Usage: ./update-pkg-multimedia from The script will then proceed to update all the repositories, and create the ones you don't have in the current directory. The from argument is for when you forget precondition 1 and one update fails, you can pass one repository name (without the .git) and the script will skip all repositories prior to $from. So you can either fix the problem and pass the faulty package name, or pass the next-in-line package name. Ideas on how to make it faster are welcome (somehow finding out at once all the up to date repositories would be good). The script is specially slow in the best-case scenario (when all repositories are up to date). Also, it currently does not abort when a pull was not a fast forward, since gbp-pull does not return non-zero on that event. A bug has been filed against git-buildpackage. Finally, if some package has been removed from the pkg-multimedia area, it will not be removed from the local computer. -- Saludos, Felipe Sateler update-pkg-multimedia Description: Binary data ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers
Bug#579994: mplayer: libavformat.so related problem

(Both to remove the soname from it). So it will need to go through NEW. Both vlc and dvblast build-depends on: libdvbpsi5-dev | libdvbpsi-dev already. That's the only packages depending on libdvbpsi on Debian. Could someone check on Ubuntu ? just checked, same in ubuntu. For vlc it will be vlc 1.1.0(-rc) hopefully in a fortnight. sounds good to me! -- Gruesse/greetings, Reinhard Tartler, KeyID 945348A4 ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers
