I normally don't run on ALSA, so I don't have much experience with this
feature. Even harder, Nedko, who implemented the DBUS card serveration
for jackd2 don't run pulseaudio.

I tried it on my laptop yesterday. qjackctl wasn't able to start jackd
one or two times, but then, out of a sudden, it worked. Terminating
jackd also worked, mplayer was playing all the time to pulseaudio.

Looks like a race condition or some kind of first-time hiccup. Now I
can't even reproduce the behaviour, jackd can always acquire the card.
Weird.

I think we should go for it. The jackd2 package has stabilized with the
latest -13 upload, so we're now ready for breaking things again. ;)

I guess we can also revive the former jackd1 package, so there would
actually be a choice.

Who's going to talk to the release team?

The problem is that the deb version for ffmpeg-extra might be lower than the
deb version for main ffmpeg packages. For instance, ffmpeg would expect a
version of libavcodec-extra-52 (>= 4:0.5.1-3), even though no such package is
available yet.

Actually, dh_makeshlibs and dh_shlibdeps do not do the same thing, so what you
propose won't work. dh_shlibdeps still needs to be run for ffmpeg as well. The
use of running dh_shlibdeps solely for ffmpeg after the creation of target
dependencies for external packages was so that ffmpeg could make use of the
ffmpeg-extra libs, just like any other external package.

I don't understand this patch. What is the issue here? Currently the
ffmpeg package has dependency like these:

libavcodec52 (>= 4:0.5.1-3) | libavcodec-extra-52 (>= 4:0.5.1-3), libavcodec52
(<< 4:0.5.1-99) | libavcodec-extra-52 (<< 4:0.5.1-99)

If I understand this patch correctly, the ffmpeg package cannot be
installed with the binary package from ffmpeg-extra.

Can you please elaborate on this change?

I guess the same could have been accomplished by putting 'ffmpeg' in the
for loop like this:

for pkg in ffmpeg $(LIB_PKGS); do \
...

But as stated above, I think this is wrong. Or I misunderstood something.

Not really, but from looking at the source, I can now understand why it crashes.

I remember that I did apply at least one ao_pulse related patch to the
rc3 branch, but I obviously didn't backport all patches. I need to take
a closer look at the issue, and am sure that one of the two attached
patches should fix the issue. It might need some massaging to apply,
though, because not all whitespace fixes have been backported.

See debian bug #569727. Note that I've already prepared updated
packages in git. Left work: update debian/changelog, close lots of bugs
and upload to experimental.

Note that this update is not targeted for squeeze.

> setting?

No, not intentional and I haven't set any custom dch settings. The
problem seems to be when running git-dch it comes up with [Harry] and
[Harry Rickards] with the entries all being under [Harry]. Do you know
why this could be? Also, which changelog was this problem in before as
I can't find an entry with it in?

Thanks

This is not the first changelog that is appearing like this ( [name]
appears while being the only author). Is this intentional? A dch
setting?

Fwd: [SCM] lives packaging branch, master, updated. debian/1.3.3-1

2010-05-09 Thread Harry Rickards
Everyone,

The current 1.1.3-1 fails to build because three patches are still in
it which have been integrated into upstream. I've removed them and
updated debian/series in 564765d61442d995d8787412a907e0ade28ecc06 and
everything builds fine now (I did also fix a hyphen as minus sign
error), but I'm unsure about what to do next. Should I make a 1.1.3-2
and skip 1.1.3-1 or amend 1.1.3-1? If I should amend, please could
someone help with or do the necessary git commands as I'm not sure how
to amend the right commit and update the tags, etc.

Also, how do I go about adding a thumbnail to LiVES that wills how up
in the Ubuntu Software Center to fix
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lives/+bug/577194? I can't
find anything on the web.

Thanks

Alessio,

Once the above is fixed, please can you upload to Debian?

Thanks

Can you please run it as (without any patches)

./waf -vvv -j1

And send me buildlog please? This is quite disturbing. I'm a waf lover
=) and have submitted a few patches upstream.

Hi,

j-a-c-k FTBFS on hppa. While some of the issues may be buildd related,
some of them aren't; the good news is that I believe I've fixed them. :-)
(at least, I've successfully built j-a-c-k on the hppa porter box)

There are two issues:

- waf's parallel building and hppa don't mix; I've stolen a patch which
Jakub Wilk provided for xmms2 and applied it to j-a-c-k. It will break if
anything causes the .waf.-* directory to be renamed, but that seems like
another reason not to use waf ;-)

- the "alpha/ia64 segv fix" patch also needs to include hppa in its
growing list of architectures on which not to execute the relevant code;
the patch probably also wants renaming :-)

I've attached a new patch to fix the first; I assume the second is trivial
enough not to need a patch.

I'd appreciate an upload containing these changes so that we can hopefully
finally get j-a-c-k built on all architectures which are relevant for
testing migration.

However, assuming that adding the following to debian/rules would
implement your suggestion, then sadly no it does not appear to be enough:

waf-configure-options += $(if $(filter hppa,$(DEB_HOST_ARCH)),-j1)

Even with this change, the "./waf configure" call hangs after outputting

Checking for dbus-1 >= 1.0.0 : ok
Checking for dbus-1 flags: ok
Checking for header expat.h : ok

I killed it after 15 minutes of inactivity; the build output shows that
-j1 was passed to the configure call. If I add the Runner.py patch
instead, it gets past that point with ease (and later fails with the
second error I mentioned, which is trivially fixable by adding "&&
!defined(__hppa__)" to an existing patch).

Regards,

Adam
