Bug#582037: idjc: FTBFS error: ffmpeg/avcodec.h: No such file or directory

2010-05-18 Thread Stefano Rivera
Hi Reinhard (2010.05.18_07:36:52_+0200)
  Severity: important
 that would be severity serious.

Reportbug dropped it when I wasan't looking. I raised it manually,
afterwards.

can you please clarify what is different on your system? perhaps a
 *full* buildlog would be helpful?

Pretty standard pbuilder.

Full build log attached.

I don't understand the race here. What is running in paralell to the
configure script here?

In squeeze and later, this check must always fail. To fix this bug, this
check should be either forcefully disabled or fixed.

Can someone please show this issue upstream?

In the build log, the result of the check is already (faulty) positive

checking for avcodec.h in legacy ffmpeg directory... yes

*before* the code is actually compiled. The error message

ffmpeg_avcodec.c:3:28: error: ffmpeg/avcodec.h: No such file or
directory

is printed *after* the line, that reports the result of the check to
be positive.

I think my patch does fix this check. Now it checks for the actual
compilation result and not for a spurious $? return code of any
other command that may have been finished successfully before the code
to be checked has actually been compiled.

did you really regenerate the configure script? It gets generated from
configure.in, so you either have to apply it to both files, or make sure
configure gets regenerated.

It checks some return value before the compiler even finished
compiling (and failing on) the code.

There is a patch in the Debian package that applies autoreconf, so
I've manually run autoreconf again after I applied this patch. It works.

I trusted the build script to regenerate it for me, I didn't see that
the autoreconf run was in a quilt patch.

But you're right, that was the problem. The patch is good.

I believe that bashisms are the only problems here. The bug didn't
trigger earlier, because dash didn't support LINENO and configure
scripts try to avoid such shells; as a result, the configure script was
effectively run by bash. However, LINENO has been implemented in dash
(= 0.5.5.1-4), so the script is run by /bin/sh now.

I'm not sure there is a lot to do from the Debian point of view.
We could check that the same video output module are used on both etch

Package: vlc
Version: 0.9.8a-3
Severity: important

The new version of VLC works on Squeeze but I'e stopped using it because
it is basically useless.

The separate control and video windows can't be turned off, the video
window doesn't remember where it was the last time it was opened, the
playback speed controls are missing, the video seems to use more
resources / is choppier than in the previous version, the new control
bar has ugly icons, etc.. However the problem I'm complaining about is
that the tools | preferences don't seem to do anything.

This used to be a pretty good player. The current rendition removes the
things I liked about it (single panel, speed controls, low resource
usage) and replaces it with things I didn't like about
mplayer (two panels, no speed controls - but skip forward and backward
controls) and kaffeine (no speed or skip controls).

 Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package projectm.

 * Package name: projectm
   Version : 2.0.1-1
   Upstream Author : projectM Team
 * URL : http://projectm.sf.net
 * License : GPLv2 and LGPLv2.1
   Section : sound

 It builds these binary packages:
 libprojectm-dev - Advanced Milkdrop-compatible music visualization library
 - dev
 libprojectm-qt-dev - projectM Qt4 (development files)
 libprojectm-qt1 - projectM Qt4 bindings
 libprojectm2 - Advanced Milkdrop-compatible music visualization library
libvisual-projectm - libvisual module for projectM
 projectm-data - Advanced Milkdrop-compatible music visualization library -
 data
 projectm-jack - projectM JackAudio module
 projectm-pulseaudio - projectM PulseAudio module

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 565355

My motivation for maintaining this package is: I use the library by myself.

There's some special stuff to know about this package: The package
replaces the orphaned libvisual-projectm package and
the libprojectm source package. I got authorization from the maintainer of
libprojectm to take over maintainership over this package.
The pkg produces some Lintian warnings about ancient Autotools scripts or
Windows binaries in the package. It also has some
unnecessarily linked libraries in some binaries. All this stuff should be
fixed by upstream, but upstream seems to have a lack of
manpower at time, so I can't get a clean tarball or fixes for all issues.
But the overall quality of the pkg is okay, I think. As soon as upstream
provides a new tarball, I'll switch to it, but at time
it does not seem that this will happen fast. (Upstream's busy at time...)
By including the package in Debian, a lot of other apps would benefit from
it. (Some audio-players use it for music visualization)
It might be a good idea to test the package in experimental first.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
 - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/projectm
 - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
 contrib non-free
 - dget
 http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/projectm/projectm_2.0.1-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

 Kind regards
  Matthias Klumpp

I would be willing to co-maintain this package with you if you are interested.
Have you considered contacting the Debian multimedia team? I'm sure someone
there would be interested in sponsoring projectm.

I can't sponsor you since I'm not a DD, but I could at least review your
package. I won't be able to review your package until later this week, but
maybe someone in the Debian multimedia team might have time to review your
package sooner.

About the autotools issue, you can essentially update the build system in the
form of a patch. If it's nothing more than rerunning autoreconf, than you just
run it, acquire the diff of the build system, and then use that diff for
patching and unpatching the build system at build time.

Bug#577257: VLC desktop file uses %U

2010-05-18 Thread Christophe Mutricy
Le Sat 10 Apr 10 à 14:09 -0700, Kevin Vesga a écrit :
 Package: vlc
 Version: 1.0.5-2

The .desktop file for VLC has the command Exec=vlc %U. This causes
problems when loading files with spaces in their names.

I suggest it be changed to Exec=vlc %F.

That would results in VLC not being proposed to open URLs.

I wonder if something like Exec=vlc '%U' would work
