Dear ftp-masters, while I *highly appreciate* your timely acceptance of the vo-aacenc package (AAC is an MPEG specification after all), I still fail to see why very similar packages like lame are left unattended in the NEW queue for 9 months now! Self follow up, you've already told me what to do: 20:10 siretart: mp3 playback seems to be broken in the current package - did it somehow get built with gcc-4.6? (the internal mp3lib is known to miscompile with gcc-4.6, but not earlier versions) 20:11 the bug is in mp3lib, it's "fixed" in the current master branch by just dropping the internal mp3lib (now the preferred mp3 decoder is libmpg123 if available) sorry,it's still to early for me, I'll see to update to current git master ASAP. -- Gruesse/greetings, Reinhard Tartler, KeyID 945348A4 ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

Please open a bugreport against the package and include the patch there. Also, it seems to me from briefly reading it, that you (briefly) expose passwords to all local users by printing it as part of an ed command. That is (if correctly read) a security flaw and should be avoided. One way to avoid it is to export the passwords as environment variables and then run a short perl script which uses those same variables. Like this (from a CipUX routine): export pw="bla" perl -i -pe "s/[ \t]*#([ \t]*password[ \t]*=).*/\$1\$ENV{'pw'}/" file But please, instead of discussing further here, file a bugreport and let's continue the discussion there :-) Regards, - Jonas -- * Jonas Smedegaard - idealist & Internet-arkitekt * Tlf.: +45 40843136 Website: http://dr.jones.dk/ [x] quote me freely [ ] ask before reusing [ ] keep private signature.asc Description: Digital signature ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

Mostly not need. Current configuration file is big cause it there are many explanations what we can do. Also it is "generic" :). Yes, we can specify some "static" configuration like pulling/pushing streams, static pointing to some directory with media files and few other options. But main work of this software is dynamic streaming. Someone push stream into it, and another one play it :) Anyway, currently there are plans to move configuration to separated files (in conf.d style) Also you can simply specify your own configuration file via defaults. For novice it works by default. Anyway I review configuration file and I will make it less specific. > And these are the modification that will trigger conffile > changes on every upgrade, which I think we should avoid. Re: [Xvid-devel] Please omit the debian/ directory from release tarballs
Hi Fabian, agreed, the debian directory in the xvidcore tarball is indeed not well maintained. So I don't think that anyone will oppose your proposal. I'll be glad to drop the debian directory from future releases and rather leave the maintainance work up to you and the Debian pkg-multimedia team... Thanks, Michael Quoting Fabian Greffrath : Hi xvid-devel, although xvid is currently not in the official Debian archive (it awaits its approval in the NEW queue for more than 9 months now [1]) the package is actively maintained by the Debian pkg-multimedia team in the Debian git repository, see [2]. Our packaging in the debian/ directory has been vastly improved and is continuously adapted to Debian packaging standards. However, this cannot be said about the debian/ directory that is shipped in the xvid release tarballs. While it is still sufficient to build and test Debian packages with it, Debian's package quality checking tool "lintian" goes postal on it [3]. In order to maintain the package in Debian's git archive with our debian/ directory, we currently import the xvid release tarballs without their debian/ directory. Since this is cumbersome and error-prone, we would like to ask you to drop the debian/ directory altogether from the release tarballs. Advanced users who might want to build and test Debian packages from other sources but ours could then still checkout an SVN snapshot of xvid and do as they prefer. That is why I agree with most part of your modifications. But, I'm still not understand why "crtmpserver.lua" is "horribly specific". Run "make info" by default?
Hi again, I think "make info" in build/generic/Makefile reports some useful and valuable information and I wonder if it could be called by default and added into the "all" dependency chain like this: all: info $(STATIC_LIB) $(SHARED_LIB) Many open source projects report similar information subsequent to the configure script, so maybe it could even get called from there... Please omit the debian/ directory from release tarballs
Hi xvid-devel, although xvid is currently not in the official Debian archive (it awaits its approval in the NEW queue for more than 9 months now [1]) the package is actively maintained by the Debian pkg-multimedia team in the Debian git repository, see [2].
