AAC is *the* MPEG4 audio codec, AKA MPEG-4 Part 3. Also in NEW is the

For the AAC encoder there is:
 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=647748

Unfortunately nothing for the amrwb encoder yet, if you're interested
you could file a bug upstream or could even work on it. Shouldn't be
that hard if the API is similar to the AAC encoder.

Doing that now... the AAC and AMRWB encoders will be in the next release
after the one that will be released this or next week.

I did not intend to write such a harsh email to you and I am sorry it
turns out I did. It's just that I am frustrated because of the lack of
tranparency with regard to this topic from the ftp-masters side (take
for example the complete lack of any statement in the two years course
of #522373) and this frustration solidified in the way I chose my words.

It was indeed my intention to start a productive discussion and elicit
a statement from your side like the one that follows. ;)

Alright, that's good to know. But if a certain group of packages takes
a lot longer than others to proceed the NEW queue this suggests that
these packages are ignored on purpose. Furthermore there has not been
any communication with us maintainers at all. If there are issues that
you check and discuss it would be nice to keep us informed at least.

This is not entirely true.

In the past months, I did a couple of pings to the DPL and
ftp-master. It doesn't make sense to reiterate everything in detail as
there is nothing 'solid' to report (otherwise I of course would have
reported it), but espc. Alexander and our DPL have been very responsive

Private communication with single maintainers may not be considered
the most transparent form of communication, especially if there is a
whole team of maintainers involved that is waiting for a clear public

Indeed.

The queries are referred to was (obviously) the ones public which I
therefore knew about, not discrete queries. And with silence as the
response thus far from ftpmasters I did not mean that ftpmasters did not
discuss with each other or their friends, but that those public queries
had not received a response from them.

I apologize for my inaccuracy, and really really hope that this is read
only as clarification: I am happy that we now have a response from
ftpmasters on this, and I am generally happy with the work of
ftpmasters.

Bug#588171: audacious: on song change, moves playlist selection to currently playing song

2011-04-19 Thread John Lindgren

tags 588171 fixed-upstream
thanks

Hi,

Audacious 2.5.0 has an option to disable this behavior.

-- John

Package: audacious
Version: 2.3-2
Severity: minor

When a new song starts playing, audacious will change the playlist selection
and focus to be the currently playing song. This is uneccessary and
annoying; when I'm editing a playlist while listening to music, I have to
stop at the end of a song, wait for the next song to start playing, then
find where I was. This is especially annoying when editing via keyboard, or
when I am in the middle of selecting several songs to move/delete.

lame_3.98.4-1_i386.changes REJECTED

2011-04-19 Thread Torsten Werner
Hi maintainer,

the package fails to comply with the LGPL. Quoting from the top level README:

(LGPL, see www.gnu.org) with the following modification:
  ...
  2. You agree not to enforce any patent claims for any aspect of
MPEG audio compression, or any other techniques contained in
 the LAME source code.

But the LPGL is clear:

You may not impose any further restrictions on the recipients' exercise of the
  rights granted herein.

Note that I haven't checked other issues (software patents maybe?).

Torsten

Yes it is the maintainer's duty if the package obviously contradicts itself.

What exactly is wrong with this? Sure, it's not LGPL anymore and not
even LGPL compatible but by itself it should be a valid license.

Many file headers suggest that the code is plain LGPL licensed. Why do
you think the code got relicensed by all copyright holders? Please
clearly document such a license change.

I do not think that it is the package maintainer's duty to check with
all copyright holders that they agree with the license of an upstream
package. I have never seen that before and I do not think that this
has been done for any other package.

What exactly makes you think that the situation should be different with lame?

Bug#623380: vlc: malloc(): smallbin double linked list corrupted: 0x00000000024952a0

Le Tue 19 Apr 11 à 21:09 +0200, Vincent Smeets a écrit :
 Package: vlc
 Version: 1.1.7-3
 Severity: important

Opening the link http://www.q-music.nl/asx/q-music.asx with vlc gives a
core dump. I start vlc with the command:
   vlc -vvv vlc.out 21
and then open the media stream. It starts opening the stream and then
(before playing anything) vlc quits. The terminal shows then the
 following lines:

I can't reproduce on i386 (with the sid version 1.1.9-1)

*** glibc detected *** vlc: malloc(): smallbin double linked list corrupted:
 0x024952a0 ***

Could you produce a valgrind trace

Also could you tried which package owns
/usr/lib/tls/libnvidia-tls.so.260.19.44 and try without it

That seems to be more consistent.

Bug#534504: Fix for upstart/Ubuntu systems

2011-04-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mediatomb/+bug/212441/comments/19

Here's a patch for this bug I've been using on Ubuntu. Note that it uses
upstart, so probably won't solve the problem for pure Debian.

Still, it would be nice if we could push this patch or something like it
into the Debian source rather than relying on downstream Ubuntu patching.
