Re: Bug#658929: Please enable hardened build flags

2012-03-03 Thread Fabian Greffrath
Thanks Fabrice!

 CFLAGS=-g -O2 -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat
 -Wformat-security -Werror=format-security
 CPPFLAGS=-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2
 CXXFLAGS=-g -O2 -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat
 -Wformat-security -Werror=format-security
 FFLAGS=-g -O2
 LDFLAGS=-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions -Wl,-z,relro

So it looks like -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions is the only flag added to
LDFLAGS. And if I filter this out in debian/confflags, things *should*
work...

I think I got the same bug here; no playlist visible, but the backtrace
 looks similar.

That's gdb --args vlc /directory/ -vvv on amd64; it's more or less
reproducible, so if I can give specific details just ask.

Yeah, and this is a bug in libdvdread, not VLC.

I saved my playlist in VLC in Media - Save playlist to file... as an XSPF
file. When trying to open the playlist in VLC it is not recognized and thus not
played at all.

The file had inadvertently been saved without file extension. After adding .xspf
to the file name the playlist began playing.

By the way, the XFCE4 file manager recognized the file correctly, so I didn't
notice the missing extension at first.

Please make either sure the files get always saved with extensions (or at least
warn) or make them playable independent of their extension.

Thank you.

Package: mozilla-plugin-vlc
Version: 1.1.3-1squeeze6
Severity: normal

mozilla-plugin-vlc does not stream uninettuno lectures (uninettuno is an online italian
university). Note that gecko-mediaplayer and xine-plugin are working fine.

Here is an example:
http://www.consorzionettuno.it/nettuno/italian/videolezioni/avvio.asp?open=9537idmateria=462

and here is some debug information:

Hello,

When running Squeeze, do the following:
 1/ Start playing a video
 2/ Pause de video
3/ Put your computer into suspend mode

Then there's no sound, and sometimes there's audio cracks.

You'll need to be more specific.
What's the audio output, what's the audio hardware, how do you suspend, what
do the kernel logs and the VLC logs say?

 What's the audio output

Pulse audio with output to alsa. Is this what you expected as answer? If
not, please be more specific in your question.

 what's the audio hardware

Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03).

lspci -n output:
00:1b.0 0403: 8086:293e

 how do you suspend

Closing my laptop physically, but I guess that system - shutdown -
suspend (with gnome) would have do the same.

 what do the kernel logs

Nothing special. It works with mplayer ...

 and the VLC logs say?

Where/how should I get this?

Thomas

P.S: Unless I'm mistaking, usually, you wouldn't tag moreinfo at the
same time as your first answer to the reporter, and you should expect
that a DD would be responsive to requests for information, after sending
a report, no? At least, you can expect that from me... :)

VLC does not embed perl directly, and none of the main libraries it depends
 on
either. This may be caused by a plugin on your system, either a VLC plugin,
 or
more like a Qt4 UI plugin.

Thank you for your answer. I only can say that I cannot reproduce this
anymore with VLC 2.x although as you wrote it might be related to
something different.

Could you close this bug appropriately please. The only VLC plugins I
have installed are `vlc-plugin-notify` and `vlc-plugin-pulse` which do
not seem to depend on Perl either. I am not sure how to check for the
Qt4 UI plugins. Therefore I am not sure if this bug should be closed and
marked as resolved with version 2.x or if it should be closed as a non
bug or if it should be left open.

Thanks,

Paul

Package: ices2

With libroar's transition from version 0.4* to 1.0* the API and ABI will
be updated. This will require an update for ices2 as it has an RoarAudio
input module. (libroar 1.0~beta0~pr0-1 can be found in experimental.)

The update is already in upstream's svn (r18198 and r18199).
I was told there will no releases of ices2 soon. I would prefer a release
but if needed I can provide the update as patch for the Debian package.

If you have any questions I'm also on IRC as ph3-der-loewe.

Thanks for your work :)

Thanks for the concern. No changes needed to ices2, however: This could
have been solved by a simple request for a binNMU. I did a new release
of ice2 now (for other reasons), so that is unneeded this time around -
just telling you for similar future cases :-)

Package: ices2
Severity: wishlist
User: debian-de...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: linux-any

The debian/control file in ices2 uses a negated list of architectures
to specify a package relationship (most likely Build-Depends) on a
Linux-specific package. I.e. something like:

 Build-Depends: libfoo-dev [!kfreebsd-i386 !kfreebsd-amd64 !hurd-i386]

This is problematic because it will fail for any future kfreebsd-* or hurd-*
architecture (like the upcoming kfreebsd-mipsel port). The correct way
would be to use dpkg architecture wildcards, e.g.:

 Build-Depends: libfoo-dev [linux-any]

Please consider making this adjustment to make life easier for future
porting efforts.

Thanks!

Dear Maintainer,

Hi!

I have unloaded libconfig9 [1] to experimental, and hope to upload to
unstable soon.
For backward compatibility, libconfig++-dev will continue to provide
libconfig++8-dev, but please change to using libconfig++-dev in
Build-Depends in a future release.

Fixed in git. Just one question: when do you intend to upload to
unstable?

Bug#652534: mediatomb-common: Uninstallable due to missing/wrong dependencies

Hello,

On Thu, Jan 05, 2012 at 10:48:13PM +0200, Antony Gelberg wrote:

If it should be removed from Debian, what's a good and supported alternative?

Please, dont remove it, I am working on it. Currently I got the package built
but I had to temporarily disable libjs, to drop spidermonkey dependency. MP4Box
binary from gpac package could be used instead, suggested on the mediatomb bug
tracking system.

See
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=3471880group_id=84101atid=571738

In anycase, once the package builds, its installable.

Bug#662020: Removed package(s) from unstable

2012-03-03 Thread Debian FTP Masters
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

 mediatomb | 0.12.1-2 | source, all
mediatomb-common | 0.12.1-2 | amd64, armel, hurd-i386, i386, ia64,
kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc
mediatomb-daemon | 0.12.1-2 | all

--- Reason ---
RoQA; RC buggy, FTBFS, uninstallable, unmaintained, not in testing
--

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

We try to close Bugs which have been reported against this package
automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they where closed
correctly or should have been re-assign to another package.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 662...@bugs.debian.org.

when importing media, mediatomb no longer reads and stores the 4cc
information. i
confirmed this by looking into the database: here is a sample entry from the
mt_cds_object table and the resources field.

0~protocolInfo=http-get%3A%2A%3Avideo%2Favi%3A%2Asize=178433640bitrate=1030~~

i remember that those lines used to hvae a 4cc= at the end.

I questioned jin about this and he thinks its a dependency problem with
ffmpeg.
coincidentally, this problem started when my ffmpeg updated from

2008-12-26 18:00:47 upgrade ffmpeg 3:20080706-0.3 3:20081210-0.1

Perhaps mediatomb needs to be rebuilt against the new ffmpeg? I am
considering doing
a build myself to test this solution

Hi.

I just installed mediatomb and added a directory that contains all my music
files through the Web interface.

After a while, when trying to browse the contents of the database, I get an
error dialog reporting :
Oops, your database seems to be corrupt. Please report this problem.

Tons of messages are reported in /var/log/mediatomb.log, which makes it grow
dangerously :

Hi,

When mediatomb is started using -e or -i option, log file shows that it
attached to particular interface or IP
address but in fact mediatomb is available on all interfaced! Need a fix as I
do not want mediatomb to be

Hi,

your package fails to build against iceweasel 4.0 (currently in
experimental). iceweasel 5.0 will soon be uploaded to unstable, so
your package needs to be updated to cope with the new version, or
will have to be removed.

Build logs are available at

Package: mediatomb
Version: 0.12.1-2
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

I'm guessing about the upstream part. I happened to notice my system has a
huge /var/log/mediatomb.log.5 file that's still being written.

The /etc/logrotate.d/mediatomb script specifies that a pkill -HUP mediatomb
should be performed after rotating logfiles, but I verified (with lsof and
interactive use of kill -HUP) that the daemon appears to ignore this signal.

As an interim workaround, I'm kludging my logrotate script to just stop
and restart the daemon, which is rather heavy-handed.

Thanks,
Scott

Package: mediatomb-common
Version: 0.12.1-2
Severity: important

meidatomb-common (and thus all of mediatomb) depends on the package
libmozjs2d (= 1.9.1) which is not installable on wheezy/sid on amd64
and i386 (maybe other) architectures. This makes mediatomb uninstallable
with only access to the packages in wheezy/sid.

Installing libmozjs2d from squeeze allows the installation of the
package and allows the use of mediatomb.

one note there is a libmozjs6d package which appears to be the
replacement for libmozjs2d in sid, but have not tested if mediatomb
works with it.

Package: mediatomb-common
Version: 0.12.1-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

unfortunately mediatomb-common is not installable anymore due to
problematic dependencies:
libavformat53 (= 5:0.8.5), libavutil51 (= 5:0.8.5), libmozjs7d

These are not available in sid or experimental at the moment and hence
one cannot install this package at all.

I've also tried to build it from source, but it fails to build against
newer firefox' libmozjs and also does not build against the current
avformat headers.

Since upstream seems pretty dead these days maybe the package should be
removed from debian?

Bug#652534: mediatomb: diff for NMU version 0.12.1-2.1

2012-03-03 Thread Hector Oron
Package: mediatomb
Version: 0.12.1-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch pending

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for mediatomb (versioned as 0.12.1-2.1) and
I had no plans to upload.

I fixed the FTBFS, but I had to disable libjs to fix the build, maybe someone
with proper JS knowledge can have a look to it.

Please dont remove the package from the archive... doh! I think I am late for
that now.

Regards.
