As a first step I suggest you to follow the first part of this page
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/maint-guide/modify.en.html

And then use the alias dquilt. This avoid to constantly have to put
parameters required (or desired) to use quilt for Debian packaging.

Then have a look to debian/patches/series, which specify the order of
the patches, and remember that quilt manage a stack of patches. With
this in mind you can go back to the quilt documentation and try some
commands on the package, especially pop, push, edit and refresh.

I hope this is helpful.

Bests,
Giulio.

Yes, I know. Do you have any suggestion for solving that? IIRC, the
files that I deleted there are files are modified at build time by
autotools and my autotools-fu is next to zero.

The removal of files was not a problem with format 1.0 packages, but
it is for format 3.0 packages.

Should I be moving the files that will be overwritten aside and, in
the cleaning stage, move them back? For the moment, I'm just
installing the build dependencies and, to build things, I'm issuing a
simple:

fakeroot debian/rules binary

and things get magically built. :) I'm using ccache (which will be
disabled latter) because, as may just have guessed, I'm building and
rebuilding things over and over again.

 Also, why do you want to get rid of webkit support?

At first, I had a mix of two feelings:

* I didn't want my transcoder to phone home.
* I wanted to lower the build and runtime dependencies.

I'm not really sure if I will keep webkit disabled or not, at the
moment (perhaps I will enable it back). Opinions? Frankly, all the
times when I tried to update any preset from handbrake's UI I got
nothing updated. :)

BTW, we are now down to only 2 files that depend on mp4v2 and, if
those are somehow dropped, then we will be allowed to redistribute
binary packages of handbrake, which means inclusion in our archives.

One point that we need to have addressed is the libdvd{read,nav}
thing, as those are the only 2 packages that we download at build
time.

I [sent a bug report regarding libdvdnav][0] to Daniel Baumann, but
I'm not sure if my e-mails are getting through. I'm including he in
the carbon copy here.

Fabian, please let me know of any fixes that you have for HandBrake
and, please, report compilation problems or missing dependencies that
I may have missed.

Bug#676541: roaraudio dependency removed from ices2

2012-06-08 Thread Ron

 The think about releases: rillian offered me to release at any time I
 think it is a good idea. In fact I could do myself just don't know the
 correct protocol to do this.

What you of course neglect to mention is that, for all the other wonderful
things that he actually is, rillian is *not* the upstream author of ices2,
nor even one of its credited contributors.

rillian offered to facilitate a new release - after Jonas asked me to ask
upstream if they could do that - in his capacity as a xiph admin. And that
was before the actual upstream author said: there's been nothing new to
release since like 2005, except the roar patches, which he was not at all
keen to add to a formal release. Which if you know MikeS, it should be
obvious that he also went to extraordinary lengths to be polite to you
about what he really thought of including the roar patches in his code.

You aren't being 'persecuted'. The simple fact is roar doesn't actually
have any users. Forcing it on to the systems of people who have never
heard of it and will never use it would ordinarily be bad enough.
Giving them DECnet to go with that though, is a very special brand of
black humour.

And it's just not funny anymore.

 Ron

In csound, we follow the following naming pattern:

0xxx for patches taken from upstream git
1xxx for patches that should be forwarded upstream
2xxx for debian-specific patches

So, most likely all 0xxx patches have to go away, and 1xxx need to be
reviewed. In any case, all remaining patches have to be refreshed so
that they apply without fuzz.

As noted, we use quilt. Use[1] quilt pop and quilt push to
apply/unapply patches, and the file debian/patches/series contains the
order in which they are to be applied.

Severity: normal

While trying to build a debuggable package with

  DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=noopt nostrip,

I ran into this.

Even with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=noopt, most of the modules in the project
are built with -O2, while some are correctly built with -O0 (as the
last -O option takes precedence). Most notably, the core Audacity core
is built with -O2. These modules seem to be compiled with -O2:

* all modules inside src/

AND

* the modules inside lib-src/portmixer/

An example gcc invokation from the build log (attached):

g++ -c -I../lib-src/portmixer/include -g -O0 -fstack-protector
--param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat -Werror=format-security  -Wall
-I/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/wx/include/gtk2-unicode-release-2.8
-I/usr/include/wx-2.8 -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -D_LARGE_FILES -D__WXGTK__
-pthread -I../lib-src/FileDialog
-I/home/sliedes/scratch/rec/audacity-2.0.0/lib-src/lib-widget-extra
-I../lib-src/sbsms/include -I/usr/include/soundtouch   -I../lib-src/libnyquist
  -g -O2 -Wall -I/usr/include/portSMF   -pthread
-fno-strict-aliasing -I./include -I. -DLIBDIR=\/usr/lib\
-D__STDC_CONSTANT_MACROS -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2  -Wall -pthread
-I/usr/include/gtk-2.0 -I/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0/include
-I/usr/include/atk-1.0 -I/usr/include/cairo -I/usr/include/gdk-pixbuf-2.0
-I/usr/include/pango-1.0 -I/usr/include/gio-unix-2.0/ -I/usr/include/glib-2.0
-I/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/glib-2.0/include -I/usr/include/pixman-1
-I/usr/include/freetype2 -I/usr/include/libpng12 BlockFile.cpp -o
BlockFile.o

Bug#676713: audacity: DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=noopt still compiles some files with -O2

Turns out the culprit is libportsmf-dev, which installs a pkg-config file

  /usr/lib/pkgconfig/portSMF.pc

which includes some compiler flags in its Cflags that no pkg-config
file normally has business of including, hence causing packages using
it to be always compiled with -g -O2 -Wall:

$ grep Cflags /usr/lib/pkgconfig/portSMF.pc
Cflags: -I${includedir}/portSMF -g -O2  -Wall
