Cool, please do!

Also, where is it possible to see the 2 'official' maintainers of a

Actually, I really think that *each* package within pkg-multimedia

little point spending team ressources such as mailing list for git

So, yes, if you have time, please clone the repository and start hacking on it!

 IS there any wiki page?

Package: yafaray
Version: 0.1.2+really0.1.2~beta5-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I'm attempting to use yafaray from the commandline (yafaray-xml).
Also saw the problem below with the wheezy version, but updated
to the experimental version just to check whether that fixed it.

The test file below yafarayRender.xml is linked from
  http://www.yafaray.org/community/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13t=3204
unzipped to /tmp but I don't think its content affects anything
below.

First attempt:

$ yafaray-xml /tmp/yafarayRender/yafarayRender.xml
INFO: YafaRay (None)
INFO: The plugin path is: /usr/lib/yafaray/yafaray
INFO: Environment: Loading plugins ...
ERROR: Environment: There is no image handlers registrered
ERROR: Couldn't find any valid image format, image handlers missing?

OK... well /usr/lib/yafaray/yafaray doesn't exist,
but the package seems to provide a bunch of stuff in
/usr/lib/yafaray/plugins
and the man page describes a -p option which sets the path.

So try:

$ yafaray-xml -p /usr/lib/yafaray/plugins /tmp/yafarayRender/yafarayRender.xml
INFO: YafaRay (None)
INFO: The plugin path is: /usr/lib/yafaray/yafaray
INFO: Environment: Loading plugins ...
ERROR: Environment: There is no image handlers registrered
ERROR: Couldn't find any valid image format, image handlers missing?

or

$ yafaray-xml -p /usr/lib/yafaray /tmp/yafarayRender/yafarayRender.xml
INFO: YafaRay (None)
INFO: The plugin path is: /usr/lib/yafaray/yafaray
INFO: Environment: Loading plugins ...
ERROR: Environment: There is no image handlers registrered
ERROR: Couldn't find any valid image format, image handlers missing?

but no joy either way.
Since the /usr/lib/yafaray/plugins directory does contain
a bunch of .so libs with jpeg/png/ppm/tga in the name, I'm
guessing there are suitable image handlers there, if only
the default path was right or could be set.

Haven't tried using yafaray from blender at all.

Thanks for any attention this gets.

Wrong.
The correct parameter to use is -pp and:

 $ yafaray-xml -pp /usr/lib/yafaray/plugins path-to-file/yafarayRender.xml

works fine here.

So, closing.

Cheers.

The libav discussion moved to (the cloned) #683247, where Reinhard
said he was going to upload -6. That bug also contains some
discussion which suggests the previous m-a:foreign changes were
incorrect. In any case, let's move the discussion there, please.
 :-)

These multi-arch changes were correct (the packages cannot be
Multi-Arch: foreign because they provide architecture-specific
interface) but not ideal (architecture-specific packages should not be
Architecture: all). And problems created by this non-ideality are
mitigated by general uselessness of the packages (they are intented to
transition packages which were never in stable).

Also, multi-arch changes were described correctly in the changelog
before
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-multimedia/libav.git;a=commitdiff;h=677532340a55be1e0974de241f06aa605e2be083
The architecture change of libav-extra-dbg (with libav-regular-dbg
forgotten again) was in fact related to #680602, not #680613. And it
also creates architecture-dependent Architecture: all package
problems. Which are again mitigated by uselessness of the package
(it is not only intended to transition from package not found in
stable, but also does not have reverse dependencies).

Bug#683465: yafaray: Can't set yafaray plugins path

 So, closing.

Ah, thanks!

In that case the real problem is with the man page which says

   -p path
Set an alternative path for the plugins.

I (now) note that running the binary with no options does list -pp in
the resulting help text. But it also lists a bunch of other/different
options which lead me to believe the yafaray-xml.1 man page provided in
the package is now rather obsolete/misleading... seems to be one of
those created-for-Debian ones cooked up in the absence of one being
provided by upstream. Update, or reduce it down to simply refer to
another source of documentation ? (Better to contain no information
than false information IMHO).

Anyway, I'll leave it at that... thanks again
Tim
