Thanks for the lovely ping. :)

Niv is interested in uploading the current state of handbrake to
Debian experimental. Do you agree with this plan or are there any
severe show stoppers left in your opinion?

Please, go ahead. There are some other points that we should work on, but no
showstopper (well, my private copy with FAAC and with mp4v2 *does* have
issues and is segfaulting in some ways, but I don't think that applies to
the the stripped down version in Debian).

Let's get it past the NEW queue so that we can upload some other incremental
things in further uploads, until we have something in shape.

Niv, it would be nice if you could add the DMUA flag set to yes, so that I
can upload newer versions (I am a DM).

Fabian, would you mind writing/adapting a script to strip down windows
binaries etc. from the upstream package? I could do that, but I'm quite busy
blogging :) right now. :) (not, not really). :)

Thanks,

As said, i'm happy to sponsor an upload. But wouldn't want to overstep DDs

Fabian was seeming to say there are a lot there :)

Bug#686762: gnome-mplayer: Don't claim to support audio/midi

2012-09-05 Thread Sebastian Ramacher
Package: gnome-mplayer
Version: 1.0.6-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi Aron,

from the discussion in [1] I learned that mplayer doesn't support to play midi
files and according to [2] one needs to add xmms plugins to mplayer to get
support. So I propose to drop audio/midi from the list of supported mime types
in gnome-mplayer.desktop as the default configuration clearly doesn't support
it.

Please let me know what you think of this. If you're okay with this change I'll
add the bug numbers to the changelog and commit it.

Cheers

I guess so. We are in a freeze and I believe they have more important
things to do.

Not really sure about the lot, but I agree with everything that Fabian

In one of his previous mails Niv told me that handbrake would
currently FTBFS. I am not sure why this happens, but it may be due to
Debian's unpatched a52dec library and handbrake patch 0009 being disabled.

Apart from that, IMHO all that's needed is a rebuild of the source
tarball. Unfortunately, I don't have the spare time right now to do
this myself and I am not sure about integration with uscan(1).

Thanks for your time and efforts.

Sorry I didn't notice this bug closing, but did you check that this
problem was fixed? It certainly is not fixed on wheezy (see below).

This bug has occurred and been fixed before (#298167) and it is a bit
disappointing that it was fixed in 2.37a-1 and then again by a different
maintainer and the maintainer after that didn't preserve those fixes.
Security team, can we get a CVE assigned for this? Perhaps that would
get people to fix it for good. The consequences are arbitrary file
creation or overwrite on a multi-user system:

Package: libmpg123-0
Version: 1.14.2-1
Severity: important

On (broken?) MP3 files, mpg123_getformat() hangs in an I/O loop that
reads one byte at a time, seeks back 64 kB, and repeats practically
forever. Example strace:

 [...]
 read(4, \277, 1) = 1
 read(4, Y, 1) = 1
 read(4, \36, 1) = 1
 read(4, \v, 1)= 1
 lseek(4, -65536, SEEK_CUR) = 19013
 read(4, \277, 1) = 1
 read(4, Y, 1) = 1
 read(4, \36, 1) = 1
 read(4, \v, 1)= 1
 read(4, \, 1)= 1
 read(4, `, 1) = 1
 [...]

MPD backtrace (there's no -dbg package):

 #0 0x7f843b9c218d in read () at ../sysdeps/unix/syscall-template.S:82

This causes the Music Player Daemon (when built with libmpg123) to go
in an endless busy loop upon starting playback, and becomes
irresponsive as soon as a client ask MPD to change playback. Severity
important (or more) because this bug is a remote DoS vulnerability
for MPD.

Due to copyright issues, I will provide a sample file demonstrating
the problem via private email only.

Dear Maintainer,

Well, it is time for another release, this one mostly being a bugfix release.

The primary changes are:
- Non-session manager support
- Midi aftertouch support
- Documentation additions
- Somewhat more sane Nio defaults
- Fewer xruns with patch loading
- Misc bug fixes (solving a few possible segfault issues)

Website: http://zynaddsubfx.sourceforge.net/

Download: http://sourceforge.net/projects/zynaddsubfx/files/latest/download

Hopefully this will fix some issues people have reported.

The package has a build dependency on libjack-dev and debuild will not
build it unless you install libjack-dev or run it with -d. However,
the package builds equally well with libjack-jackd2-dev (when you pass
-d to debuild), so it may be a good idea to build-depend on
libjack-dev OR libjack-jackd2-dev.

Hi,

When I load zynaddsubfx, I always get the same new user dialog
asking me whether I want to use the Beginner mode or Advanced mode.
This is despite having written a new .zynaddsubfxXML.cfg just before.
The error message I get is:

$ zynaddsubfx
mxml: Missing close tag /!DOCTYPE ZynAddSubFX-data under parent
?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?!

[then the usual Zynaddsubfx stuff]

Is this a problem in mxml or something? Usually the !DOCTYPE tag
doesn't have a closing tag.

Thanks for your time.

Ethan

Package: zynaddsubfx
Version: 2.4.0-1.2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

Starting a couple of weeks ago, zynaddsubfx will not load instrument banks or
parameter files. Only puts out pure sine wave. It had been working fine for
months.

Running from the command line gives the following error when trying to load any
instrument bank or parameter file:

mxml: Bad control character 0x1f not allowed by XML standard!

Checked unzipped parameter files with a hex editor, no 0x1f characters in file.

Removed and purged zynaddsubfx and libmxml1, re-installed, got the same error.

Having the same problem on my laptop (testing, i686pae).
