Bug#702063: ices2: New upstream release available: 2.0.2

2013-03-02 Thread Thomas B. Ruecker
Package: ices2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

Ices 2.0.2 was released last august, please update the Debian package. Looking
at the changelog it seems that #255417 should be fixed there too.

After some priviate mails with the reporter I came to the conclusion,
that this is most likely a mirror problem or something else in that
category. Nothing to fix here.

TBH, this appears to be a bit picky, but I wouldn't object if there
were reliable tools that help with its maintenance. I'm asking because
that's what I am currently trying, that is, to re-instantiate the
licensecheck2dep5 workflow. Unfortunately, AFAIUI I am unable to work
it out with the given tools. See below.

Right, I really need to add some copyright statements to debian/rules
and debian/confflags. That work is clearly not-trivial and deserves an
explicit notice

> What I often do is to state copyright and licensing in the header of the

Makes sense.

What I did is to install licensecheck2dep5 script into debian, and
copy its invocation from cdbs's utils.mk into debian/rules.
Unfortunately, I am unable to produce satisfactory results with that.
I am unsatisfied, because with this re-implementation, I get a
diffstat of this:

 copyright_newhints | 6192 -
 1 file changed, 3758 insertions(+), 2434 deletions(-)

That's clearly too much for me to review, so I wonder what cdbs is
doing differently than me calling licensecheck2dep5 by hand.

Jonas, maybe you could have a look and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

The very point of CDBS is to reuse common packaging patterńs across many
packages. Some people find CDBS helpful, som people hate CDBS.

licensecheck2dep5 specifically is a crude filter applied on top of
licencecheck. I am interested in something better - also something not
tied to CDBS - but I have no interest in helping rip apart CDBS to reach
_same_ functionality as CDBS brings already but stuffed into each
indicidual package.

This is silly!

Why fork? Why not simply use CDBS until something better emerge?

Jonas, I understand that this reply is supposed to indicate that you
are not going to help out here.

That's unfortunate, but that also means that the current
debian/copyright file is in an absolutely unmaintainable state. I am
not going to touch it right now in the hope that a better solution is
found until such changes becomes necessary, but if that happens before
we have a solution, I fear the only option available to me will be to
revert to a simpler to maintain structure of the licensing file.

Uh darn, I didn't disable the email trigger for my private repository.
I wonder if that was a good or bad move. After all, if I had disabled

I don't see how this can be remotely considered as a fork of CDBS. I
find it unfortunate that it is still not in the devscripts package.

> Why not simply use CDBS until something better emerge?

I did neither introduce this mechanism to the libav package, nor did I
remove it.

However, I have no interest in learning nor using another packaging
helper, so I certainly will not introduce CDBS. Also, I object to
converting the libav packaging to CDBS as that would introduce an
unnecessary abstraction layer that would not make anything simpler.

I find it unfortunate that we had and have an argument about CDBS
usage in both, the libav package and in other packages in team
pkg-multimedia, because I value your work, motivation and technical
excellence very much. However, I am still rather opposed to CDBS and
am not interested in adopting it for packages that I am supposed to
maintain.

When you have implemented the CDBS-based DEP5 checks, I found the
implementation pretty borderline, but got curious and wanted to learn
about it. I found it unacceptable that you extended the CDBS usage in
libav, which made me quite upset, mostly because they would have made
my work for derivative distributions (i.e., Ubuntu) considerably more
complex.

Now that I took a closer look at the implementation of the CDBS-based
DEP5 checks, and the fact that you refuse any assistance with it, I'm
pretty much convinced that DEP5 is not the way I want to go. At least
not without mature, reliable and well-maintained helper tools, which
sadly do not seem to exist at this time.

hello.
after recent upgrade on Debian testing i've found that dir2ogg (that uses
mpg123 directly) fails to do the job. pleasee see #679813 for details.
after digging around i've also read this in mpg123's changelog:

looks promising, but. dir2ogg calls mpg123 with "-q -w /dev/stdout
/path/to/file.mp3". i've tried the same and it failed. but when i replaced
"/dev/stdout" with dash (-w - filename.mp3) - it works fine!
thus we see that output to stdout now works incorrect, and we need to fix
understanding of "/dev/stdout" as output file, not only "-". hope that's easy))

The location header from the HTTP/1.1 302 is wrong splited.
The ending "\r" and/or "\n" ist not dropped but also added to the Hostname.
So is the port in the Host Header moves to the next line :-(

Also is the path not set to "/" with the result thats the get request ist
invalid.
 "GET  HTTP/1.0" sould be "GET / HTTP/1.0"

I get the sources and detect the problem in the function "split_url(...)" from the file
"src/resolver.c"
The Funktion needs a path in the URL but do not get it from the header.

to fix the "\r","\n" problem replace the "if "Line

for(pos2=pos; pos2<  url->fill-1; ++pos2)
{
char a = url->p[pos2];
if( a == ':' || a == '/' ) break;
}
/* At pos2 there is now either a delimiter or the end. */

 if( a == ':' || a == '/' ) break;

thru

for(pos2=pos; pos2<  url->fill-1; ++pos2)
{
char a = url->p[pos2];
if( a == ':' || a == '/' || a == '\r' || a == '\n') break;
}
/* At pos2 there is now either a delimiter or the end. */

for the second problem of the missing path replace

/* Now only the path is left. */
if(path) ret = mpg123_set_substring(path, url->p, pos, url->fill-1-pos);

true

/* Now only the path is left. */
if (path)
{
if( url->p[pos] == '\r' || url->p[pos] == '\n')
{
ret = mpg123_set_substring(path, "/", 0, 1);
}
else
{
ret = mpg123_set_substring(path, url->p, pos,
url->fill-1-pos);
}
}

Your patch does not apply to current libav.org master. However, I have
found this upstream patch that may be related here:

http://git.libav.org/?p=libav.git;a=commitdiff;h=20bcce50

Can you please check if libav as found in debian/experimental works on
powerpcse already? I would expect so, but it would be great to double
check.

din_4.2.1-1_amd64.changes is NEW

2013-03-02 Thread Debian FTP Masters
binary:din is NEW.
source:din is NEW.

Your package contains new components which requires manual editing of
the override file. It is ok otherwise, so please be patient. New
packages are usually added to the override file about once a week.
